Welcome to the Q! Before we start, here is a reminder of an exciting project at dVerse.
Call for Poetry Submissions: Krisis: Poetry at the Crossroads (Working Title)
In celebration of our 15th anniversary in 2026, dVerse Poets Pub invites poets from around the globe to contribute to our upcoming anthology, Krisis: Poetry at the Crossroads. Rooted in the Greek word krisis, meaning a pivotal decision point, we seek poems that explore moments of transformation, choice, and change.
Submission Period: April 1, 2025 – June 30, 2025
Ok! It is that time again to write “quadrilles”, our very own home-brewed poetry concoction here at dVerse Poets Pub. Since quadrilles are only 44 words, I suppose you could say they are micro-brewed. Remember the title is not included in the count and of course, the poem must contain a given word or form of the word.
Lately, life has felt like a tangle of events, emotions, uncertainties and change. I am sure some of you can relate. Whether personal or political, it is very easy to become absorbed and entangled with more than we can find a way to de-tangle. One strand at a time, we still attempt to organize the mess.
Today, I give you the word “tangle” to weave into your quadrille.
A tangle could be a twisty pile of electrical cords. What is what? Which is which? A tangle could be a dozen knots in your favourite gold necklace or a dozen knots in your hair after a windy walk. It could also be an overwhelming, complicated situation. A tangle could be an conflict between two people. Whatever type of tangle it is, untangling is often a challenge.
The Cambridge Dictionary describes a tangle as a “messy mass of things”. Many tangles happen naturally but as we know, there are those that are deliberately contrived and forced, as the Merriam Webster Dictionary notes:
“to unite or knit together in intricate confusion. 2. : to involve so as to hamper, obstruct, or embarrass. 3. : to seize and hold in or as if in a snare : entrap”
Sir Walter Scott said it best in his poem, Marmion, Canto VI – The Battle Stanza XVII
So let’s get to it. Untangle your muse and pen us a poem! Include the word “tangle” or a derivative of the word. You might even find a creative way to hyphenate the word. Become tangled up in conversation here in the pub and then…. take to the poetry trail.
Here’s how to join in:
- Write a quadrille as described and post it on your blog or website.
- Enter your name and direct link to your poem in Mr. Linky.
- Follow the links to other poets. Read, comment and come back for more as the prompt is open all week.
- Kindly provide a link to dVerse so others can find us too.
- Drop into the pub to say hello.
- Enjoy!
