dVerse Poets Pub, online poetry prompt, Quadrille, sharing your poetry across the globe, write a poem of only 44 words!
Hello folks! Lillian here, hosting QUADRILLE MONDAY at dVerse, the virtual pub for poets across the globe.
Did you know dVerse created the quadrille form? A quadrille is a poem of exactly 44 words, sans title. It may or may not have a rhyme scheme…..actually, there is no required format except that it be a poem (not prose) of exactly 44 words, sans title. But there is ONE HITCH! You must include the word provided by the pubtender of the day, within the body of the poem.
So….without further ado, I am the pubtender today and the word you must include within the body of your poem is …. SUNRISE.
These days, with all the chaos in the world, it’s important to think about the positives….and the idea, that even if it’s clouded over, the sun always rises and is simply hidden for a while behind those clouds. Every day, the sun is with us, whether we can see it or not! One of my favorite songs about this comes from the musical Annie: catch a listen below!
So…..I’m looking forward to day filled with sunshine, either a bright full sun or storm clouds acting as a scrim for the sun….all up to you!
New to dVerse? Need to be refreshed on the rules? Here’s what to do:
- Write a quadrille (a poem of EXACTLY 44 words, not including the title) AND include the word “sunrise” or a form of the word within the body of the poem. A synonym for “sunrise” does not fulfill the prompt. It must be the word, or a form of the word. IE sunrisings would be okay.
- Post the poem to your blog AND add the exact URL for your poem to Mr. Linky below.
- REMEMBER to either TAG dVerse in your post, or include a link at the end of your poem that leads readers back to dVerse (https://dversepoets.com).
- If you do not TAG or include a link to dVerse at the end of your post, I will gently remind you to do so. After all, this will increase your readership and comments, and others will find dVerse and hopefully join in the fun. If you do not add the TAG or link after my reminder, I will remove your post from Mr. Linky. I do not want to do that! So please do include the TAG or link!
Sun will set in about an hour here at 9 PM…. I hope to be asleep at sunrise….. I think I need something to make me sleepy
Something to make you sleepy…..how about a nice cognac in a warmed up glass? The aroma alone will be intoxicating!
Good evening poets, and tank you for hosting, Lill. Is there such a thing as an alcohol-free tequila sunrise? If there is, I’d like to try one, please.
…thank you for hosting…
Alcohol-free tequila sunrise coming right up! I have a bartender’s manual handy….so any drink is possible! 🙂 Also…..I always feel free to take poetic license when tending the pub! 🙂
😍
Hi Lill. Thanks for hosting.
Always happy to tend the pub! 🙂
🙂
Hello dVersers!!!!
Just got home about a half-hour ago from Vermont. Went to see our grandson’s high school graduation….rain and cold all the long weekend so ready to read some sunshining poetry!
Hi Lill! Thank you for hosting. I’m glad you got home in time. I saw some of the photos you posted from your grandson’s graduation. It looked great!
I love sunrises. Now, it’s starting to get light when I wake up at 5.
I’m not a fan of Annie or that song though. 😂
Not a fan of Annie either….except for the line “the sun’ll come up tomorrow”….because one way or another, it always does!
I can agree with you there!
hi lilian
hi poets
just a fleeting visit hope to catch up with sone reading soon.
rog
Glad you fleeted over to drop in! 😉
Greetings all! Thanks for hosting Lillian, especially after a fun filled weekend! I’m easy today, a glass of pinot grigio please.
Coming right up! Nice to see you here tonight! Happy to see the sun shining in Boston! And oh my yes….a very fun-filled weekend!
Okay folks….am crashing here. Pub will remain open….key in under the flowerpot to the right of the door! Open up, help yourself to some libations and the only thing I ask in return, is for you to leave a poem including the word “sunrise” on the bar, close the door on your way out and replace the key under the flower pot so others can stop by as well.
I am absolutely tuckered out after all the graduation festivities and celebrations this weekend in Vermont and fading very fast!
Will be back in the morning to read all your posts, AND catch up on the conversations here!
Lillian
Grey skies today. I need a pick-me-up!
Sunny poetry will do it – plus a gin and tonic with a lime twist!
Always fun to do a Q and sunrises are beautiful things. Thanks for hosting, Lilllian!
Always enjoy tending the pub!
hi Lillian– congrats on your grandson’s graduation. and thanks for an uplifting prompt. enjoyed penning this one! xx, ren
Always happy to hand out some good spirits!
Hi Lillian – thanks for hosting – The Q is one of my favorite prompts. See you all in my travels wandering in the poetic world.
I also enjoy the quadrille…..will be reading yours in a few minutes! 🙂
A wonderful challenge, Lillian. I love this song
Glad you enjoy the song! It’s sure got a positive vibe to it, right?
It does. I really enjoy it.
annie singing tomorrow was a treat – thx
Always happy to provide treats at the pub….be it a song, a fun prompt, or a gin and tonic! 🙂
Hello, Lillian, thanks for hosting. Great quadrille prompt!
Glad you like the prompt, Jay. I was feeling in need of sunshine when I wrote it! 🙂
Our sunrise was at 0420 BST that’s 0320 Grenwish mean time. It is nearly noon GMT as I post this belatedly. I hope you have had a little sleep extra , after your gallivanting and celebrations.
I helped myself to some leftovers and mopped up some spills last night in the Bar. Chatted to some ants before I firmly evicted them. You’re welcome! Kathy
So glad you came into the pub and helped yourself to some goodies….and you’re cleaning up is much appreciated! Ah yes….I got a good night’s sleep! It was FABULOUS to be at our grandson’s graduation celebrations….but we did come home tired from all the constant activity. Hard to believe I took care of him every Wednesday as an infant through toddler hood….and then was there for him after school in those early days…..and now he’ll be off to Colorado College in the fall. Time sure does keep on a going!
ah Lillian, what a magical experience with those Kindred-caring Wednesdays (and more…) contracting into a concertina-fold of years. What a celebration for all and EACH of you! May the sun rise on may more of those for your family x
Lovely choice for a prompt Lillian, we’ve had a couple of months of wonderful sunrises to coffee with 🙂
Glad you like the prompt….We have a beauiful sunny day here in Boston!
Sounds lovely
