That normally means you can post one poem of your choice at Mr. Linky below (no required topic, format, or length) OR use the OPTIONAL prompt today and write an ekphrastic poem using one of the images below. Images are in public domain so simply give credit by indicating “Image from Pixabay.com”. Your poem should be motivated by the image. HOWEVER, with the deadline approaching for our 15th anniversary anthology, today, you have the option of posting a maximum of THREE poems.
AND, YOU’RE INVITED TO JOIN US LIVE with audio and video on Saturday, June 21st from 10 to 11 AM Boston time! Come and read a poem of your choosing or simply come to sit in and enjoy. All poems and conversation are in English. We’ve had folks join us from Australia, Germany, India, Kenya, Pakistan, South Africa, Sweden, Trinidad Tobago, the UK, and across the US. The more the merrier! We’re a very friendly bunch!

For today’s OPTIONAL prompt, choose one of the following images:

New to dVerse? Need to be refreshed on the rules?
Here’s what to do:
- Write a poem of your choosing (no required topic, format, or length) OR choose the OPTIONAL prompt and write a poem inspired by ONE of the images above. Give credit to the image by simply stating, “Image from Pixabay.com”. OR, given the deadline for our 15th anniversary anthology is fast approaching, for this particular OLN, you may post a total of three poems.
- Post the poem to your blog AND add the exact URL for your poem to Mr. Linky below.
- REMEMBER to either TAG dVerse in your post, or include a link at the end of your poem that leads readers back to dVerse (https://dversepoets.com).
- If you do not TAG or include a link to dVerse at the end of your post, I will gently remind you to do so. After all, this will increase your readership and comments, and others will find dVerse and hopefully join in the fun. If you do not add the TAG or link after my reminder, I will remove your post from Mr. Linky. I do not want to do that! So please do include the TAG or link!
Hello dVersers!
Summer has finally come to Boston: high temps and high humidity. Serving refreshing drinks tonight: specials are a gin and tonic with a twist of lime and….Arnold Palmers (mixture of iced tea and lemonade). Also serving Key Lime Pie!
Of course, if you ask for something else, I’m pretty sure I can rustle up your requests.
Looking forward to reading your posts tonight!
PS: hope many of you will take time out of your schedule on Saturday from 10 to 11 AM Boston time to join us at dVerse LIVE!
AAAAH – Found the correct Mr Linky!!!!
If there are drinks available – mine’s a very very large Malt Whisky.
Happy to slide that over the bar to you, Kim! Good to see you at the pub today. AND hope to see you at our LIVE session on Saturday. If not to read, just to sit it….the more the merrier!
I’ll see what I can do — suffering from a major Thyroid issue at present.
When does the Mr Linky expire?
This is the type of poem I write when my muse is taking a snooze. Please send coffee so that I can wake her up!
Coffee, hot and strong with that fabulous aroma that will open your senses – always available at the pub! Happy to see you here today. Hope you’ll consider joining us Saturday and our LIVE session….if not to read a poem, just to sit in. Would love to have you!
Hello Lillian and All. This poem will be the final one to submit (via email.) That first image looks like Scarlett Johannsen.
Nice to see you at the pub today! Hope you’ll join me at the LIVE session on Saturday!
Oh my gosh….now looking at it it does look like her!
Thanks, Lillian. Will try to join the live session on Saturday.
Johannson played the girl with the pearl earring in the movie. This looks like a take on the painting–AI?
Aha! Had forgotten that. Thanks.
Hello Lillian! You shared some beautiful images. I am saving them for future use.
Happy to provide motivation for future poems! Good to see you at the pub today. Hope you’ll join me for the LIVE session on Saturday!!! If not to read a poem, then just to sit in and join in the visiting that also happens 🙂
Thank you for hosting today, Lillian. I love the first picture you shared with us. Is it an ai picture or an artist’s rendering!
It is hot hot hot here in the Carolinas today so I will have a Root Beer Float with two dips of chocolate ice cream!
Oh my gosh…..a rootbeer float sounds fantastic! Think I’ll join you 🙂
Yum!
Hello Lillian and all!
I am back with another Medusa poem 😀 fourth installment of my series. I will be reading it on Saturday! 🩷🩷
Hot chocolate for me please!
LOVE your Medusa poems! Hot chocolate coming right up! See you Saturday. 🙂
Okay….late nights while we hosted our family that last few nights so my eyes are closing even as I am enjoying the reading. I shall leave now and return in the morning.
NOT TO WORRY: as always, I’ve left the key under the potted plant to the right of the pub door. Come on in and help yourself to pie and a libation. No fee or tip expected….simply pay by leaving a poem behind. 🙂
See you all in the morning!
Hi Lillian, and all, happy OLN~
Hi there! Glad to see you stopped by the pub!
Good Evening – Happy Open link night…I posted an older poem but, am going to write to one of the artworks as well.
Question: We can submit any 3 poems from January 2024 to present for the anthology. Can they be from any prompt at dVerse? It seems many are posting in the OLN so I just wanted to confirm.
Yes, they can be from any prompt. Note the prompt when you send it in. Many are doing OLN because they’re writing something not motivated by a prompt.
Many thanks for the opportunity. I have, as invited, shared three pieces. I’m not sure whether they will be my anthology submissions, as I don’t yet know what else I might come up with before the deadline – but it’s very likely that at least one or two of these, and maybe all, will be included.
Apologies, I won’t join in live. Otherwise occupied at that time.
Meanwhile, enjoy your summer, but it’s a freezing cold night here in a subtropical part of Australia which doesn’t usually get such low temperatures. So I think I’ll try a hot toddy, please.
Ah….am a bit late returning to the pub! Many things happening here at once. But – hot toddy coming right up!
Good to know you’re doing submissions….am sure what you choose will be great!
I have never ever tasted Key Lime Pie so I think a piece at the peri-solstice sounds a good trat? Thank you Lillian for topping up the bar. and for sending out invitations.
Am a bit late returning to the pub~! Lots happening here with family, grandkids visits etc. But…..you’re in luck. I made extra key lime pies so a slice is coming your way!! And by the way, if you’re ever in a restaurant and they offer key lime pie, I highly recommend it! The actual slice will be much better than the virtual slice 🙂
Mmmm! Worth waiting for xx
Hello, Lillian, thanks for hosting OLN, I have linked up my poem which I wrote for Tuesday’s poetics prompt.
Hi Jay! Great to see you here at the pub. Am a bit late getting back as we had lots going on today. Loking forward to reading your piece!
We had 28.5 indoors yesterday evening which is a record and promised more of the same today so I fancy a mint julep please Lillian…
Mint Julep coming your way! Hope to see you tomorrow at our LIVE session!
Many thanks for hosting Lillian, sadly I can’t make tomorrow’s live event.
We will definitely miss you, Paul…but glad to see you here at the pub!
❤️
Hi Lillian and all! Thank you for hosting. I still haven’t decided what to submit for the anthology, but I’ve posted a poem, just to have one here for OLN. We have a busy weekend, but I’ll try to get some reading done tomorrow afternoon.
Nice to see you here, Merril! Hope to catch you at the LIVE session tomorrow. I’m thinking we’ll be a small group. A number of “regulars” have sent their regrets. Small groups are good too! 🙂
I will probably be there–though I might be a mess in workout clothes!
Workout clothes absolutely acceptable! 🙂
Hello from Sweden in Midsummer celebrations. I will only join the live part this time as I had no possibility to writen anything.
good to have you at our LIVE session – a fun group!
