Hello poets!

There was a time when being happy came naturally. Small, inconsequential things could bring joy. Being one with nature would instantly make one smile. As kids we giggled without inhibitions.

These days we are either scowling or frowning. Anxiety is our constant companion. Strife and stress have riven the world. Jobs, kids, spouse and family are now considered sources of woes. We all want to lead a happy life but don’t know what true happiness is.

Happiness by Jane Kenyon

“No, happiness is the uncle you never

knew about, who flies a single-engine plane

onto the grassy landing strip, hitchhikes

into town, and inquires at every door

until he finds you asleep midafternoon

as you so often are during the unmerciful

hours of your despair.”

We now have life coaches who help us navigate life, wellness coaches who help us maintain wellness of mind and body as well as have happiness coaches, who teach us how to be happy!

The truth is happiness has not become elusive in these times, it’s just that, in search of bigger and deeper goals we have forgotten how easy it is to be happy, to smile and spread joy.

There is a flower at my window by Lucian B. Watkins

“O! my heart now feels so cheerful as I go with footsteps light

      In the daily toil of my dear home;

And I’ll tell to you the secret that now makes my life so bright—

There’s a flower at my window in full bloom.

It is radiant in the sunshine, and so cheerful after rain;”

For today’s Poetics, we will try to make this Tuesday a happy Tuesday. I am sharing titles of some books. You can incorporate one or as many as you like in your poem.

1.The pursuit of Happyness by Chris Gardener

2. Happy Accidents: A memoir by Jane Lynch

3. The ministry of utmost happiness by Arundhati Roy

4. Stumbling on happiness by Daniel Todd Gilbert

5. The Happy Prince by Oscar Wilde

6. The art of happiness by the Dalai Lama

7. More happy than not by Adam Silvera

8. Happiness is a choice by Neil Kaufman

If the above titles don’t inspire you, you can simply write us a happy poem. The idea is to smile as you write and put a smile on the face of the person reading your poem.

As always, please write a poem on your blog.
