Greetings, fellow wordsmiths and purveyors of pithy poems! De Jackson (aka WhimsyGizmo) here, and it’s time again for my fave, the Quadrille. If you’re new ’round here, I must tell you the Quadrille is a wee little poem-creation of our own doing right here at dVerse, in which we pen poems of precisely 44 words (not counting the title), including one word we here at dVerse provide.
This week, I want you to make sure your poems hum.

Humming. Hummed. Humbled. Hum-bled.
Hum us a happy little poem-tune. Go full bah humbug on us. Flit a hummingbird in for a few stanzas. Inject a little hum-or, some high hum-idity, or a big dose of hum-anity. (Are you sensing some hyphens might be fun here?) Tell us how Humpty Dumpty recovered from his great fall. You could even drive a big ol’ black Hummer right through the center of your poem. Whatever you write, be sure to have a humdinger of a good time with it – and don’t forget to include some form of the word hum.

Mary Oliver

As is always the case with the Quadrille, you don’t have to make it rhyme. But just lookee at all of these lovely words that rhyme with that beautiful hum: thrum, drum, mum, strum, badda-bum, Tweedledum, pa rumpa pum pum, rum, yum.

Shel Silverstein
New to the Q? Here’s what to do:
Ho-hum, it’s time to poem! Pen us a poem of precisely 44 words (not counting the title), literally including some form of the word hum. Post your poem on your own blog, and link up using the Mr. Linky below. Then have a happy hum around the interwebs to pay your fellow poets a visit. Don’t forget, the Quadrille is up all week long, so feel free to come back and read and write some more!

Hellooooo, Poets! Happy humming today. I’m here for a bit at the bar with lots of snacks and refreshments. Hope you find some inspiration here!
This hum is really very versatile, so many options to choose from… but decided not to make it humbug.
Heehee. It IS tempting, isn’t it? Could always do a second poem…just sayin’. 😉

Little bit late, but I made it. 🤍
Hi, Jennifer! Happy to see you here! 🙂
I can’t figure out how to comment at substack.
Here’s my comment:
Love “crinkle-squint” especially. And that hyphen in hum- or! Wonderful, Jennifer. De
Thanks much, De! ✨ Yeah, you’ve got to have an account to comment or like and such on Substack. It’s easy to set up a quick profile, though, if you ever decide to dip in. 🤍
