Greens flourish, burying the harsh edges of winter beneath the new season. Spring is the season of rebirth when life regains strength after hunkering down during the most unwelcome cold. Once again, the earth didn’t surrender to defeat. Instead, she waited until the sun looked her way and deployed the birds to rejoice in the profusion of color and growth.
As I write this, I am enjoying the sink-into-me cushions on my patio. The fountain plays her unique melody that only water in motion can exact while in the top of the budding cottonwood tree, a mockingbird calls out in multiple languages in search of a mate. Flower pots overflow with happy hues of red, blue and yellow, energetic tones that lift spirits and engage the senses. With the breeze, the dogwood tree rains tiny white petals as if to mock the snowfalls of the arctic months.
My senses are as free as the inspiration that surrounds me. Is there a better time for poets to blossom?
This is my first opportunity to tend the bar for OpenLinkNight. The pub is ready and I’ve borrowed an apron from my good friend Joe (Hiya, Joe). I may not be the quickest pub tender around so have patience, please. I look forward to reading and commenting your poems.
Here is how it works:
- Write a poem and post it to your website.
- Click on the Mr. Linky button below and enter your name and direct url or web address to the poem.
- There you will find others that have joined in—stop in, visit with them, let them know what you liked about their poem.
- If you use social media to promote yourself, tag it @dversepoets so we can find you and help you promote.
The doors are open! We hope you have a fabulous time.

How unusual for me to be in your ‘starting’ line-up! I too have been enjoying the change of season, though here in New England it is often one step forward and two steps back! I think the cold and snow are finally past us now. Nothing like the change of seasons to inspire us though! Am sharing a piece written in the early hours of a recent April morning. Thanks for hosting us Beth, always a pleasure to see you!

Spring will arrive in her most demure gowns with lacy petals and pastel petticoats. The orioles arrived yesterday, a welcome sight that promises that the season has arrived here. The case of grape jelly in my pantry will keep them around until August. I’m not above bribing them to stay. 🙂
Thanks for joining us today. I’m not a fast reader but I’ll be by your poem soon. Have fun!

Spring finally arrived here in Philadelphia bringing this open link you host, Beth. I just peaked at Claudia’s poem which filled me with travel lust. I hope to visit everyone in the next few days.

Let’s see… travel lust and hope to visit everyone in the next few days. You did have me wondering if I needed to make sure the guest room was ready. 🙂 So good to see you here. I’m kind of slow with reading and commenting but I’ll be visiting your link soon. Have fun!

Welcome Beth. I too love squishy cushions, but the weather’s not fit, today – alternate gale/hail/sunshine/falling petals.

Then you have something to anticipate 🙂 Kansas has been blessed with a beautiful spring. I’m absorbing every minute that I can.
Thanks for joining us today. I’ll be by to read your poem soon. Have fun! 🙂

Indeed, the very best time of year for me and here’s my new and somewhat reflective piece for April, prompted by Easter and some lovely Spring sunshine here in the South of England… Look forward to catching up with everyone’s work… With Best Wishes Scott http://www.scotthastie.com

Thank you for tending bar!
Beth Winter said:
I found a note about your Old Speckled Hen ale. Honestly, the name is tempting me to try it but with my luck, I’ll end up under the table if I keep sampling new beverages! Maybe after the crowd settles in…
Thanks for joining us today. Have fun! 🙂

Hi Beth – so good to see you behind the bar – you brighten up the place! I have posted my OLN poem but have to write my daily poem. Afterwards, I’ll be back to read. See everyone out on the trail!
claudia said:
so you’re doing one poem a day through april as well…? i have high respect for those that manage… i think i would struggle a lot..
good to see you in the pub gay…
Beth Winter said:
Hi Gay 🙂 This year, I haven’t had the time to commit to a poem a day and sadly, my muse (if such a creature exists) has been reluctant to cooperate. I found Napomo to be a wonderful exercise. I just can’t juggle it with two jobs and everything else this year.
I just read your poem. It is wonderful.

Hey Beth, Claudia–lovely post. I am doing the poem a day and so will probably not link for OLN as commenting has become a bit difficult on top of that. I mean, I love people to read and also to read other’s work, but we are almost at end of month and all feels a bit much–and I feel very guilty NOT returning visits–s o will stick to this right now. k.
Beth Winter said:
Sometimes we have to take a little break. Look forward to seeing you when things slow down a little 🙂

So pleased you could make it. Thank you. Enjoy!

I am very late to the party, but it is so good to be here. I think this is more like an Open Link Weekend than a “night” & so more of a house party. Thank you Beth for tending the bar. I have a lot of catching up to do over my single glass of wine 😉
Beth Winter said:
It is a house party! Welcome. I don’t mind having the extra time to read and comment. 🙂
Beth Winter said:
It is lovely. I spend as much time as I can out in my little corner of the world. Thanks 🙂
