A few weeks ago, I went to the Circus and next to the outstanding artistic performance, I just loved, watching how much fun the artists obviously had.
They were joking, laughing, teasing, but also catching each other. They encouraged their colleagues, team-played, helped them jump even higher and I just loved sitting there, sucking in the atmosphere.
Does this sound familiar–?
Or did someone tell you that poets are serious, lonely creatures who sit alone at a desk and smile very seldom–? I once had that picture and I’m so glad that it’s not like this, that we have so many team players here who, next to an outstanding artistic performance, encourage each other and have fun together–
So let’s get that party started – I can’t promise you elephants, clowns, high wire artistry or lions but you will be surprised what you sometimes find out on the trail– smiles–
My name is Claudia Schoenfeld, I’m your host for our 62nd OpenLinkNight– and hey, it simply feels good, being a part of this.
.
If you’re new, here’s how it works–
- post a poem on your webpage or blog
- Click on the Mr. Linky button below and enter your name and url and click enter.
- This is also where you will find the list of those that have also joined in—read, comment, meet new people—let people know what you think of their verse.
- Feel free to share your link and a link to dverse using the social media of your choice.
- Enjoy your time

Hi Claudia – what, no elephants?!!!!! I’m not up yet as I had quite a serious poem, and then I came up with some (I thought) funny political ones, but I really don’t want to add to all the political acrimony in the world, and I’m working! So haven’t been able to pull things together yet. Later I hope, if you save me a seat. k.
claudia said:
of course there’s a seat reserved for you…and if you bring one or two elephants, that would be just perfect…
Laurie Kolp said:
I love going to the circus, too, Claudia.

Thanks for tending the bar tonight Claudia–and that circus analogy is perfect–we have a lot of different acts, and may need more than three rings, but there’s no doubt we’re all in this together. I’m afraid my poem tonight is destined for one of the far tents, where people go to scare themselves, but it’s all part of the show. See you on the trail, everyone.

Hello Claudia and Everyone Else~!
I’ve been in New Jersey a week celebrating the 100 birthday of Aunt Jean…as fiesty and witty as ever a woman could be. She radiates life!
While up there took a side trip to my home of 44 years….and every since have had as poem in my mouth and disturbing my sleep.
Glad to be here, and am able to type somewhat so will venture out ……
GLAD to be amongst poets!

Claudia,
No one is every lonely at dVerse Poets Pub! As for serious, maybe sometimes but never lonely. And for the serious ones, let’s pour them double shots.
Thanks so much for hosting today. I look forward to incredible poetry as always. I suspect I will get a few chuckles, too.
Much love 😡

Happy open link night everyone!
I was having one of those uphill battle kind of days. Rain poured outside, everything seemed unimportant. I wanted to write a poem and I wasn’t sure if it would be any good with such a dreary mood. I put that aside, penned the poem and like magic people tweeted, liked and re-posted it.
I am so very grateful that there are so many kind people that enjoy what I have to say. I am humbly honored by such. ♥
Have a fantastic evening and let the games begin.

oh i know such days…and they usually carry some poetry under their sorrowful wings..ha

Here’s to a poet’s circus – to juggling of words, to swinging high wire phrases, to romping clowns, to cheering crowds, to movement, color, larger than life art work in the company of friends and companions, and to our mistress of ceremonies who always makes life fun! Thank you Claudia!
claudia said:
smiles… sometimes i get all confused in that juggling of words and hope they don’t crash…smiles

Power trip anyone…Would have loved to see your circus Claudia…but the peanut shells here on the floor is no doubt as close as I’ll get…Getting ready to shut things down here, and before you know it…I’ll be wearing my best and most poetic brooding look 😉 Happy OpenLinkNight ALL!

Claudia, Thanks for hosting. I didn’t read your intro before I wrote my poem and posted my link. I may have gone a bit too serious for the occasion. But I missed the “Rebellion” prompt a couple of Saturdays ago and had this rebellious little poem taking up space in my head. I almost linked to an older poem because I didn’t think I had time to write a new one today, but that silly (or serious) little poem just jumped right out of my head like it was rearing to go. Anyway, now I could use a hard cider and some peanuts to go with my lunch and poetry. 🙂 Peace, Linda
claudia said:
smiles…cider and peanuts on the way.. and you didn’t go too serious at all

Hi again Claudia = no elephants! Sorry! And I’m not sure I got my poem right either, but I wanted to do something new and not political, though politics on everyone’s mind here I think. I will go on to reading now. Thanks as always for opportunity. k.

was just thinking the other day that i was missing the elephants k….
ManicDdaily said:
Yes, me too – you know I’ve been busy and I lost my stylus for a while – they are pretty cheap but I’ve used its absence as an excuse not to draw – Of course, I used to always use a pencil! (Ha!) I did find it the other day, so maybe I’ll get busy. k.
ManicDdaily said:
PS – I should send you a copy of my elephant book. It’s actually kind of cute – 1 Mississippi – all watercolor. A complex story (not!)

I am #112. Oh, that’s a lot of reading! I will be catching up with it as the week goes on from my parents home in Upstate NY.
I read at my first open mic tonight and stayed to the end, happy and inspired. I am going to read at another as soon as I am able! In my 5 minutes, I read “Pushed” (the button poem) and the one about catching a star blowing in the wind.I did not win the $50 for the best poem, but I felt heard and had applause. I wish some of us were there, but you heard them already in another Pub night.
So tonight, you get more spiders and bridges and Whitman.
brian miller said:
yay! way to go susan…that is awesome…i am so glad it went well for you…and i wish i could have been there…would have been a treat to hear you perform…$50 for the winner…i am going to the wrong places, just saying…smiles…
