Brian Miller, just saying, monster, poetics, poetry prompt, sesame street, the greatest monster is the one that links and doesnt visit anyone
There is a monster at the end of this.
Perhaps it is a nice monster. One that is cute & cuddly and we don’t have to be afraid of. Maybe it’s nice, like Grover.
Or maybe it’s not. Maybe it’s scary or hides under the bed until all the lights are out.
Maybe it’s human. Maybe it’s not. All I know is that at the end of this….there is a monster.
Is it hairy with big teeth? What does it eat? Me? I hope not, but…
Perhaps if you stop reading this and don’t write about monsters then there won’t be any monsters.
Wait, you are still reading…that must mean we will be meeting the monster at the end of this. Maybe it is a monster of our own creation. Whether we intended it to be one or not…
Perhaps if I stop typing we will not meet the monster at the end of this…
Ok, I guess if I can’t stop you…
Ha, did you ever read the Sesame Street book “The monster at the end of this book?” I found a copy as I was thinking about our topic this week for Poetics. My name is Brian Miller and I will be your host this week. Have fun writing about a monster. Make them nice, scary, whatever form your monsters take.
Then click that link at the bottom to meet the monster at the end of this…smiles.
If you are new here:
- write a poem about monsters and post it to your webpag.e
- click the Mr Linky button below and enter the direct URL to your poem.
- this is where you will find the list of other participants – go visit them, tell them what you felt when you read, what you linked about their piece.
- promote your piece on the social media of your choice, if you include the tag @dversepoets it makes it easier for us to promote you as well.
- have fun
Hope the weather is nice in your neck of the woods…and watch out, I hear there is a monster if you click the link below….

Please try again Aprille ~ Sometimes it doesn’t work for me the first time too ~

ah it seems you made it the second time around…

Hi Claudia, hi Brian, hi Grace! Grover is my favorite muppet and I love that book. I have linked today, but I cheated. I linked to a short story that I worked very hard on and which got almost no viewings. I did post a link at the beginning of the story though to a poem I wrote for NaPoWriMo that fits the prompt that anyone can click on if they wants poetry rather than prose. (Since this is the Poetics prompt.) Please don’t reprimand me too harshly and thanks for the cool prompt.
heidi said:
*want*
brian miller said:
ah i look forward to your story…i was a short story writer before i ever tried my hand at poetry….

Hmmm…. sounds like fun and not necessarily scary. Maybe, I’ll do a piece on Sponge Bob, the ultimate modern monster in my opinion. 🙂
brian miller said:
ha, he def sucks the kids in…
no the monster does not have to be scary…
though plankton can be a beast…lol
charlesmashburn said:
Oh, what fun! When we were kids, we spent a lot of time at our cousins’ houses. I remember one house where one of my cousins’ bedroom was in the basement. It was kind of spooky down there–in a fun kind of way–and I remember how we’d try to scare each other. My entry for tonights Poetics might be true, or maybe it’s just another one of my wild tales. You be the judge.
brian miller said:
my grandmothers house had a laundry shoot in the bathroom that led to the basement…we used to dare each other to stick their head in the chute door and look down into the basement…ha….
brian miller said:
good night poets….see you manana

Bodhirose said:
I had two older brothers…one was particularly “monstrous.” I’m sure you were the epitome of sensitivity, Brian,..smiles…I couldn’t see you any other way.

Prompts usually don’t grab this writer but monsters in one form or another pique the imagination this evening…

The subjects of monsters and/or insomnia frequently cause me to quote the title of a Goya etching that pretty much covers it: “The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters.” So it’s 4am, I’m still on a somewhat rustic vacation with my kids, and another full day of tandem jetskiing has exhausted me, as I lay awake to the strange sounds the wind makes against this “luxury” rental cabin.
It’s a quick, accurate read:

Late, but here! I have several monsters . . . I should write from their personas. But I give you one that never quite fit under the bed or in a closet or in this sonnet.
