color she said, poetry, poetry prompts, poetry sharing, taking a ride on the color wheel, wrap me in your colors autumn
There are two times during the year when the longing for color almost kills me.. the first is in the last grey part of winter– some days it gets really bad and I wanna stretch out on the ground, dig my fingers in the soil to find those first ambassadors of spring &life, and I almost get sick with yearning and waiting. One year – it was a very long and cold winter – I thought I’d die while waiting for these tender yellow and green sprouts everywhere… (ok I didn’t but…)
the second time is in autumn when the world gets drunk on color – dark red, brown in all its rich shades, that certain rusty yellow, moss green – and there’s this yearning again, the scent of soil and earth and how life should smell – I seldom use perfume during these times cause for me it would smash a bit of the holiness… ha… you already knew that I’m a little bit crazy – smiles…
OK – the theme for today is color… color symbolism (you can find a color symbolism chart HERE), the feel of a certain color, color to describe a mood… red with rage, melancholic blue… what about taking a ride on the color wheel or personalize a certain color and give it a voice or describe a person with color attributes… where ever you take this… let the colors bleed from the page… smiles…
Happy Saturday – my name is Claudia and it’s my pleasure to be your host tonite.. If you’re here for the first time, this is how it works…

happy saturday everyone.. at the moment at the river rhine with hubs, watching light art but will be around in a bit.. cant wait to read what youre coming up with.. smiles
Hey,
Colours can define feelings and attributes of a being. Though I love the dark hues, I have a special place in my heart for the varied blue colours of the sky, the sea and the wind. Writing about them is giving me a sort of pleasure as well.
We imagine things by their colours. They are significant… they are so many and they are so beautiful. 🙂
A wonderful prompt for today. 🙂
Hi Claudia – I combined a 55 for GMan (veryshortstory), your color prompt, and Halloween together for this – so NOT a poem (and perhaps not much of a story) but it is a color compressed and exploding all at the same time. Ha!
ha – it def. is… lots of energy in yours gay
OK… something to think about over dinner here in the UK…. I have an idea, just need to let it percolate!
ha nice… and enjoy your dinner…
I couldn’t resist squeezing it in whilst it cooks! 🙂
smiles…
I had one written waiting for a link up. It does mention puppy color though. Going to read a few colorful poems now.
Thanks for this, Claudia. I will do my best at commenting, as my mom’s still in the hospital.
how’s she doing laurie… ? feeling a bit better..?
Hi Laurie, I hope she is doing better!
A wonderful challenge Claudia ~ I will be around in a bit ~
Happy Saturday to all ~
Grace
ok – i’m back and almost out on the trail…. smiles
bri will check in a bit later as he’s at a football game right now…
Thanks for your colorful prompt! 🙂
Blue Limerick
By Madeleine Begun Kane
A woman who always wore blue
Joined a group where just navy would do
She liked turquoise and teal
And saw aqua’s appeal.
But her militant view? Navy — Ew!
ah we should learn to accept the different hues that others “wear”…smiles
I love how you tie your theme prompt into Anna’s Fauvist theme; for the drenching of color imagery in poetics is pure Fauve, and I am still feeling “wild”. So I launched myself into a frenzy of color, of war, of street art, of middle eastern symbols, piercing the heart of our international strife; and it took hours to craft it–so I arrived late at the the Pub, & linked in as soon as I could; what a wonderful challenge; thanks.
smiles… yes the fauvists impressed me much… love how they colored the world..
Tell us more about that river art please. Sounds fab.
It is already fireworks night here, and will be every night till November 5th, Guy Fawks. They always spin that out and we’ll need earplugs to get to sleep this evening.
Colour, and the greying of the seasons: so agree that this can be hard to accept. Any minute now the leaves will be swept up, taking the colour with them.
I could easily do ten post on colour, but came up with a rather serious one this time.
childrens work is a serious thing…glad you wrote about it aprille… i love fireworks… smiles.. the light art were mainly spotlights that brought certain things alive in the dark… a crane… looked like papercut…the fine and fragile structure… then bushes and tree shades on a factory wall brought to life and into a different dimension…was cool…
I am on a two-week babysitting gig at the child’s house, overnight and I only have access to my computer at home thru the middle of the day – I did some commenting – the poems are wonderfully colourful! – and will do more tomorrow mid-day. Great prompt, Claudia.
nice… babysitting gig sounds fun.. enjoy and we’ll be waiting for you…smiles
Hi, I couldn’t miss to do a color poem.. Did one earlier today.. and now I have a few minutes before bed-time… I love color symbolism… Now it’s time to go to bed .. Hope to have some time to read tomorrow.
glad you joined… bed time for me as well in a bit…god natt björn
it’s hard not to get crazy about colour, Claudia… though I always preferred the word ‘passionate’ 😉
smiles… i may should re-think my word choice…smiles
Color! It is never absent. I tried to say that here and ended up in a duet or maybe a combo …. I hope it’s not dull.
oh not at all..not at all..
Thank you! I wanted to delight you (after a little slump).
alright… bedtime for me over here…see ya all in the AM…
This is such a nice prompt I just had to join in. Have a colorful weekend.
glad you joined myrna…wishing you a super colorful weekend as well…
smiles…i love this time of year….drunk on color…fun stuff…..just got home and will be out on the trail til i am caught up….smiles….happy saturday everyone!
so how was the football game…?
it was fun…we tailgated before hand…a group just hanging out and having fun…playing games…the game itself was brutal…ha…our team got spanked…like really bad….some of my students performed witht he college band yesterday as well which was cool for them….
Wonderful topic, Claudia! I really enjoyed it. Thanks! 🙂
smiles… good to see you..
HI Claudia–this was circulating in my mind all day–it is actually super grey here right now–in the mountains–like your early spring perhaps. Love the photo. k.
glad you joined in k.
Claudia – we had a busy family day today (not enough of those!) and I’ll be doing something to share tomorrow.
I’m with you on the need for color – sometimes the bright blue skies over the snow are not enough when I long for leaves and flowers! Great prompt – can’t wait to come play!
busy family days are good things eh? smiles…hope you had some fun….
see you tomorrow…
ah – busy family day sounds wonderful… we don’t have many of them now with our kids continually scattered across the globe somewhere – ha – smiles
We had a great time – and now we are relaxing at home! 🙂 Enjoyed the prompt Claudia, hoping you enjoy my poem. May try another one with some more fall photos.
Couldn’t resist the color them either, so this was what came first to my mind…I don’t know why?? Live your photo of the palette of color, Claudia! Hope all have a good weekend!
smiles…my messy watercolors… thought about cleaning them up first but…
off to bed…be back in the morning…smiles.
sleep well bri..
ah got an extra hour last night….mmm good…smiles.
Hello Claudia! I love this idea~ I have been at a band competition all evening-I will write something tomorrow. Odd, though I was just reading about how Emily Dickinson loved white?! I love how you described color-so bluetiful ;D
bluetiful…oh i LOVE bluetiful… smiles
nice ella…our band got to play with the UVA band yesterday, was really cool…
shit am i too late??
not at all too late… good morning…. :=))
out on the trail to catch up with the overnites..
nope, not at all…smiles….good to see you amy….
not much time this morning so will post something I did last year.
ah that’s alright… as long as the colors are still fresh…smiles
Hi Claudia – thanks for tending- I shall see what I can do, though my head is quite elsewhere at the moment… but I shall try
nice…hope you can make it..
made it 🙂 but you will all have to forgive my ‘patterned rhythm’, I’m afraid I didn’t really think too deeply on this one, as my head is full of other things.
smiles… i’m a quick forgiver you know… enjoyed yours – and next time i wanna see that tree painted in oil…ha..smiles
ok…off for a very windy and cold-november-kiss afternoon walk — we’re visiting my mom for coffee and cake…hmm.. will check back in the evening…

Thanks Claudia! I’m tryign to take back grey from the “50 Shades of”. Wish me luck! :o)
ha. yes.
though grey can still be seductive.
just not a poorly written bit of smut.
smiles.
I hope so! 🙂
So caught up in NaNoWriMo I almost missed checking in here. I love the symbolism attached to colors. I submit one that’s a little old, but fits the prompt.
Othermary, I am so with you on the taking back of grey. Brian I agree. it’s such a great title. Too bad it’s wasted on such a horrible book.
Nice prompt, Claudia. Fit in perfectly with what I’d been working on for today ~ besser spät als nie ~peace, Jason
ha yes – besser spät als nie… smiles… glad you made it
Hey guys! It’s been a while 🙂
hey – good to see you … just waking and out on the trail in a bit..
Color! What would we do without it? Fantastic prompt Claudia! I’m late so I’ll be linking to OLN. 🙂
