crazy world, no seriously that is my natural hair color, no you can not check, this is my chance to be on the people of walmart website
I have been off the grid the last couple days…amazing how disconnected you can feel…its been a bit of a long haul the last couple weeks…the last seven days i produced 42+ pages of academic writing to close out the semester in grad school…my students finished their SOLs (end of year state testing)…and all the remediation we did to get them through the test…and I had my last end of year meeting with parents on Friday…
seriously, i feel like i haven’t had a spare moment in months…so after turning in that last paper…i crashed…i did not look at the computer for days and took in some life therapy…ha….sunday we honored my wife and my mom at a picnic…it was a gorgeous day…i got a little sun kissed…
oh and i dyed my mohawk…as a reward for 91% of my students passing the aforementioned state testing…they picked the color…
to top it all off…and seriously this sounds like a joke…but i met an ancestor of Robert Burns…in the men’s bathroom at the library…we exchanged numbers and he called me…(if you are reading this, as you said you have been—i will call you back today)…we might be doing some art things together…
So its a crazy world…what’s new in your world? What’s inspiring you?
Here let me fix you something cold, we’ll just talk a bit.
Smiles.
(To top it all off—I can not access dVerse from work anymore, because of PUB in the name…ha…darn those filters. So I will be around here Shortly.)
Marina is up for Poetics tomorrow~Should be fun…see you there. ~Brian
the hair is a good celebration of shared achievement!
most def…they had fun today seeing it, joking with me…
my asst principal completely lost his train of thought when he saw me…lol
I love the color of your mohawk. Your students have good taste. I bet it was nice having the time off the web for a bit. I think it’s good to take breaks now and then, especially when your as busy as you’ve been. I would have really enjoyed seeing your beard colored too. Nice to hear what you’ve been up to. Have a great week Brian and I’ll probably be by for poetics tomorrow.
oh it was…after writing those papers i was wore out…it is good to take breaks…i have just had to take a few right here together to get through the semester of grad school…my classes were very paper heavy this time around….look for you tomorrow…it should be fun…i have had a peek at what marina has in store…
Life can get a little crazy at times . . . love the hair and the color. You’ve been missed. 🙂 I honestly don’t know how you manage to juggle all that you do. Inspiration has been a little hit and miss this end but just rolling with it. How cool to meet an ancestor of Robert Burns, I can’t imagine the conversation that led to that discovery, and in a men’s bathroom of all places, he, he, he.
i always suspected that the men’s bathroom is a place for all kinds of conspiracies…smiles
it is claudia…hahaha…it was def an interesting conversation…this guy is a photographer by trade…a pretty cool guy too…and i met him one other time after he did a zombie shoot at the old theatre…things happen in interesting places you know…smiles.
you met an ancestor of Robert Burns…? in the men’s bathroom at the library…? haha.. that is way cool… and way cool as well on doing some art things together… ha – life is full of surprises… smiles
bizarre eh? i hope he washed his hands…is all i am saying…lol….
what’s inspiring me? ha – good question – i got soaking wet during my lunchbreak walk today – and with soaking wet i mean i left puddles on the floor when i made it back to the office – luckily i had some clothes to change in my locker in the company – and as weird as it sounds – it was fun and in a way even inspiring…. haha. smiles
That should make for an interesting poem! I once heard a guy say the sexiest thing to him was a woman who liked baseball caps and walking in the rain. I knew I NEVER had a chance with him 🙂
haha… i’m not so fond of baseball caps – so i think i would’ve had no chance with him as well… smiles
too funny 🙂
lol…it is pouring down right now…and i am about to get a bit wet…so we will be right there…puddles can have lots of inspiration in them…
hey i like a girl willing to rock a hat…its practical…smiles
Good to see you looking so fit and trim. I like your hair color and cut, though PC-wise, I have to mention that unless you are part Pawnee, prehistoric Irish or prehistoric Cossack, you may be appropriating another culture. Contemporary Mohegan and Pawnee are most sensitive about this. My sources are the few Native Americans who engage in the Facebook group “Quakers Talk About Racism.” Perhaps you can wear a button that says “I’m not racist, I’m …”? That last was a joke, Brian. Things get pretty intense on that discussion site so I lurk but rarely speak.
I like the crazy-cool skate-boarding look of the cut on you.
I have been trying to understand what is me and what is shadow AGAIN, something that recurs and brings out the darker poetry but with a difference this time. Now nature seems to care. Most interesting.
nice… i think exploring our shadows a bit can be a fascinating and sometimes even a healing experience
technically it is a war hawk…a mohawk would go all the way down the back if i am not mistaken…it does raise an interesting question of what is culture and who owns it…especially in the amalgamation age when everything seems to be assimilated into the soup…
Excellent point.
i have quite the respect for the first nation though…the way they were treated and their way of life destroyed is shameful…
Lucky you didn’t throw in the beard for dye as well! ha ha You are a good sport. I’ve been swampt with life – kids, house. The things that pull me “away” are also the things that inspire. We are trying to down-size and simply our life – leave us more time for what is important. Have to sell our house first. Wish I could spend more time here at dVerse – I am like 7 prompts behind in commenting over at “The Garden” and feel guilty writing when that is the case. I am so happy you get a break – you work so hard! Summer is almost here – and the mountains in VA do it so well!
symplifying the life is not a bad thing… it’s good to get some things off the shoulder at times… wishing you all the best for the house sales
oh i agree it is the things that pull me away that ofter inspire me…how is the house sale going? downsizing is good….next summer we are probably selling our place and moving to a bit more convenient location…so i will be right there…
and 9 school days left! woot!
having a house on the market is hectic with three dogs, two cats (that I throw in the car) and four (five now that my daughter is back from college for a couple of weeks) kids to keep after to clean… I can’t wait until I have more time to spend at dVerse every once in a while – I do very much enjoy this site.
If we don’t sell we will refinance – so either way is good… ;P
so cool when the unexpected happens… I’ve been hanging with Spidy & the Frozen girls this past week… grands had theme B-day parties… I played duck, duck goose… sewed six capes… celebrated an end-of -the-year party with seven of my nine Asian students… planning for fall’s exchange program… in the middle of a new building committee at church… composing the ninth lesson in my book Change My Heart… my hair is turning white, but it’s all good… hoping to shut my brain down enough to write poetry tomorrow; that’s when it all slows down for a little while… I think green would have looked nice on your head… you must have all female students
wow… sounds like you’re super busy… cool on the theme birthday parties and i hope you will manage to write a poem tomorrow…. marina has a great prompt in store for us..
sounds like you have had a week of fun then….i love playing games…i have burns on my elbows and knees from a birthday party at an inflatable place….i pretty well wore out the inflatables…and they me….smiles…..
green…i will have to consider that for next time…it was there choice…but it would make my eyes pop…ha
What a cool way to celebrate your students’ (and your) achievement – I think you must be rather a favourite teacher of theirs…
I’ve had two weeks of spring holidays with the kids at home… and it rained nearly every single day. So, after we played Cluedo, Carcassone, chess and other board games, after we invited several little friends over and tidied away Lego for the hundredth million time, cabin fever did strike…
smiles… i can imagine…. i love carcassone!!
I love Carcassonne the place but didn’t know there was a game. Is it good?
ha. i def get cabin fever in those situ…had to be nice to have them home though…we had a great spring break…raining now but it was in the 80s earlier today….i need a shower….smiles…
looking forward to your prompt tomorrow…
Your workplace is blocking this hub
On account of its ref’rence to “PUB?”
Seems that puters ain’t wise;
Errors always arise.
But we can’t live without — there’s the rub.
true on the rub…stinks…luckily i can back door linky on prompt days and catch up….
You look super cool. 🙂 My daughter’s Sunday school teacher has green hair, and we totally dig it.
game of thrones!!!!! love your name…khaleesi…did you bring the dragons?
that is so cool on the sunday school teacher…i will be greeting at the door this sunday so i bet i get a few looks…smiles.
I always have my babies with me … all 4 of them now. We finally had that boy. That’s why I’ve been gone all year. It’s been a rough one!
ah i am glad you made it to the other side of it then..
Like you, I’ve been too busy for a couple of weeks to be inspired…but things are calming down a bit (hope I didn’t just put a curse on myself). Pink…my favorite color when I was a kid. Your kids have got to love you!
oh they did…hoping that it does calm down for you…now i am just cleaning up the seniors a bit and getting them to graduation…oy
A badass poet with a pink Mohawk is quite the inspiration. Go on with your bad self.
BTW, today’s poem was inspired by my wife who excoriates any spouse who keeps a “secret” from their spouse. As a former student who kept a $20,000 secret bank account from her husband said, “It’s not a secret, I just haven’t told him about it yet.”
haha…bad ass is what my pastor called it last night…lol….
errr…yeah dont know those kind of secrets would go over well with me
you know…
I’m rather free nowadays. Just mentally busy in thinking about the future course of action. I’ve given two entrance exams so far and the first one went quite good. Still a long way to go to reach a particular position and following on on that. A really critical stage in life, when almost the entirety of my future depends on the choices/decisions I make now and that now would almost last two months. I was waiting for it and today, I feel a little dread in carrying out such a responsibility but I think, that was inevitable.
As I mentioned alongside the comment on your recent piece, that is a really cool photograph. 🙂
glad the exam went well for you amnol…the one i was taking at the same time went well here too….ihope those decisions go well for you friend…that is def a lot of weight to carry
I have been overiinspired I think.. I have written more poems than ever.. and on saturday I found that the library in downtown Stockholm have a brilliant poetry section.. I might go back there soon.. no poet’s relatives there but still 🙂
To have a pink mohawk is great 🙂
ah but they are there…just in the bindings…our library has a terrible poetry section…as our bookstore does as well….i am ready to be overinspired…and have been laying it down today….filling the notebook…its good to be free…
and quite a lot of poetry in English too – which is non-existent in the bookstores
Ha ha, you sure know how to motivate your students!
Yes, it does sound like a joke — or maybe a mistake? (You’ve been very tired, after all.) If you met an ANCESTOR of Burns, he must have been a ghost! Or else it is some other Robert Burns than the poet. Perhaps you meant a descendant? *Checks again. Yes, you did say “ancestor”.*
ah…yes a descendent…haha…an ancestor would be quite the ghostly experience…that is the tiredness catching up with me…
Our local library has NO POETRY AT ALL .
I’ve been waiting for someone to notice the ancestor statement! Jock’s mother was born in Alloway, the birthplace of Burns, and despite being a complete fan (Jock can recite reams of his poetry by heart), he’s never met an ancestor – probably not even a descendant, despite Burns’s huge number of children!
Brian, a short break is healing, but please don’t stay away too long.
I’m so glad you had a wonderful Sunday. You’re hair looks awesome by the way. 🙂
You know sometimes it’s always good to be disconnected but at the same time try to finding out a balance between the real world and the cyber world.
Both share the same feelings. 🙂
Well, since you asked what is new in my world. I’m currently working on a new book or chapbook for Next year 2015. I’m super excited to release it. and I shall make some announcements later on at the end of this year. 🙂
So that’s what’s new in my world just working and staying insanely creative with my mind and consciousness. 🙂
P.S I can’t wait for tomorrow for another challenge of topic poems to write about. 🙂
i think you will not be disappointed tomorrow…
might want to start checking your ‘self’ out a bit…
cool on the book….look forward to it…
How cool are you!! Love the look and as us Aussies would say with your work load, Ya poor bugga 😦 feel your pain, though yours is more using the brain, whereas my tiredness is physical. Glad you decided to have a little break, it’s needed from time to time as we all know. How amazing that you bumped into an ancestor of Robbie Burns, small small world we live in master jack :-). It’s good to see you back in all your colours Bri. Smiles.
heya…pulled up your site before my sons game just have not got over there yet….smiles…good to see you mum…
Thanks Bri, been a while since I popped my head in 😦 I shall(like Arnie) be back! 🙂
🙂 It is good to disconnect…I’ve had to sometimes ..too much going on and life is a juggle. Great celebration, happy you got through it all and that your students did so good. Cute pic!
why thank you…smiles….
life is a juggle and sometimes its best to stop before you start dropping them…smiles.
Your war hawk IS art, Brian! Guess you inspire your students and vice versa…hope my home-schooled sons can say the same of me (not my hair). They did show appreciation on Mother’s Day 🙂 A hard rain, blooming tulips, and the poetry here inspire me.
glad they honored you on mothers day…we did the same of my wife and mom…
and come on…i bet you could rock a hawk…haha…smiles…
love me some tulips…
Wow, got tired just reading what you’ve been doing! Great color on the ‘hawk! They have chosen wisely!
I think a Mother’s Day picnic sounds lovely – but it was snowing here! Crazy! We’ve had them in the past, though, and it’s one of my favorite ways to be celebrated!
Tina @ Life is Good
i saw that on the snow…that is crazy..ha….well you could have had a snow ball fight….smiles…happy mums day tina….
Love the color Brian. I understand the need to get away from the computer etc. I spent Mother’s Day with my daughters having a picnic, taking a hike at Montgomery Place in Red Hook, NY. One of the best days I have ever had. Feeling the breeze, the warm sun and just enjoying the earth. I have felt so disconnected from nature from this winter and work. I came home last night, so grateful for the day and my girls. There is inspiration there, a poem is coming.
very cool….glad you had such an amazing day….
i need that connection to nature as well…
we went for a bit of a hike through the woods yesterday
and i ran my fingers on the bark…
bring on that poem!
Love the color of your ‘hawk, whichever kind it is. How cool to meet a descendant of Robert Burns! Sounds like your ending your school years on a grand note. Life do get crazy, don’t it? Tomorrow I start moving my daughter–out of the grad school dorm, home for 4 days, then down to DC to start her internship…I figure I might have my head on straight by July…sigh…
Happy Spring. Isn’t it wonderful to finally have one!
wow you are busy too…and DC is only a couple hours away…we will probably be up there in the weeks after school…or sometime over the summer….we are taking hte boys to NYC in july….should be fun..
Oh yes Brian can see through your hectic schedule. Its good to be away a bit at times – helps to get your balance. Ah! Weeks fly by…last week when MTB came up I realised that I had not caught up with even one link of poetics!! 😦 dotty is having her summer break now, MIL recovering from a surgery and the usual run up and down work and home….now poetics is back again and I am where I am!! How tough it is to resist writing? I find it tough perhaps have tuned it down in an attempt to read others!! I always wonder then how do you and the others esp the pub tenders manage. By the way, you should put up a new display pic of yours…waiting for the mohawk to inspire your pen!! Smiles…
summer break already…wow…we are still 2 weeks out…9 school days…but i have 4 after as a teacher….i still write though in my notebook when i am offline…its a conundrum…i think reading others makes more of our own work…as we borrow tricks from each other…smiles.
Brian, you look great. So glad many of your kids passed the test. Must feel good to you.
Also glad mother’s day was fun and you took a little time off. I’ve been off the grid too. Some grandma duties, now some fun at the beaches in San Diego. Life is good. (How original is that?) Anyway, so happy you’re well. I hope to resume bloggin very soon.
gramma duties can be fun….smiles…i am glad life is good….and i look forward to your return….
Cool pic! The students are fond of you and I know when they graduate, they will thank you for all your good help…and be proud of themselves and I hope those needing special attention will make it as well….and meeting total strangers with a connection like that is such a fun serendipitous occurrence!
I am continuing to discover things on the Island that is now my new home since last September…fall and winter were beautiful in their own seasonal ways and now spring means all is green, lots of organic food in the markets, birds, whales, and local music. Artistic talents is in abundance here. Summer, then, will be very laid back I imagine; I’m so fortunate, as there is nothing like “Island Time” 😉 Hope to write for poetics as well.
Bryan you look great! I love that color, your students must also be so cool! I can’t wait for June to come and bring me some inspiration… and then I will find some cool ways to celebrate the end of my exams! Maybe I’l get blue/purple streaks in my hair and a nose ring?!? ha!
Smiles – that’s a cool look. It is always good to take some time off the grid. Sadly no break for me until at least a couple of months more. Waiting.
Your hair is super cool
You look like a hippy man……… 😉
Me and my hubby had gr8 fun driving a round trip of 490miles and i was a gr8 time with quit music and little talk ……….. No phones no mails nothing just drive around……
Love the hair, and that the students got to pick the color for you! Good job on their tests too!
It’s been crazy here with seeding and working cows (which I love !)…and catching ‘couple time’ at night while troubleshooting or tending seeders with the semi. Leaves me not much computer time outside of work but it is all good.
Glad you had a super Mother’s Day with your ladies too my friend.
If it works that is me minding the gate while the guys move some cows and calves into another pen so we can get them all on grass!
love the mohawk!!!!
