Melancholia: can it be more beautifully expressed than in this music by Jan Johansson. He had a wonderful sense to put Folk Music and fuse it with Jazz. This song is probably the most played Jazz song in Sweden ever.
Autumn and winter is a lot about coping, and living though. I have read so many beautiful poems on this from the prompt by Kelly earlier this week. If you want to write something new, if you find melancholia hard to deal with, take a look at Victoria’s prompt on humor. Maybe in times of Halloween you have some vampire poems to share.
If not, why not sit down and chat, listen to some jazz and sip on your favorite drink. Maybe the words come flowing or you are reminded of an old poem you think that needs a wider attention.
But this is Open Link so any one poem is welcome.

Glad it was a wonderful concert, Bjorn! Happy OLN to you too, and thanks for tending bar.
Thank you for tending in my absence to
interesting theme, the melancholia of Autumn. Just the other day I was pondering the very opposite, how summer can be a warm, sleepy, almost dream-like time. When Autumn comes there is sharpness, a crispness in the air which can be refreshing. Here in Ireland it is also a time of story telling, especially ghostly tales, of which we have many!
I’ve posted poem, not mine but rather by Walter De la Mare. The whole piece is collaboration between myself and my daughter, I hope you find it fits the theme.
Recently I presented this to the children in the local Primary school as they prepared for their Hallowe’en break, they loved it!
No particular theme today… anything goes well.. here it’s more the darkness that make me melancholic…
Now I’m finally home, and ready to make my rounds..
Hi Bjorn ! I am home as well and now hitting the trail ~
Hi Bjorn and Grace, I just got home too and linked up my latest. See you both out there.
Oh, and enjoyed the music, Bjorn!
Ah, Welcome Gayle.. I look forward to read yours.
Thank you for sharing this music with us Björn. It is just the ticket for Autumn melancholy. I will share something soon.
It’s one of my favorite pieces of music.
I’ve been missing dVerse because life’s been a little crazy and I’ve had little time to write or read lately. But for Open Link Night I wanted to share a poem I wrote a couple of weeks ago that also has a SoundCloud recording of me reading it. I’m hoping to do more SoundCloud, time permitting. I’ll be back over the next day or two to read as many other poems as I can get to. Peace, Linda
Thank you for linking up.. we have missed you.
Now I’m ready for bed… it’s getting quite late here.
See you tomorrow Bjorn ~
It’s as though I’m always simply passing through. I’m a stranger here now I know. I miss my friends and their poetry and more I miss my own; and yet have no heart or will to write. I want to visit but as you know other events have pressed in on me. I posted an edited poem today written a long time ago. If you have a chance to comment, I would be grateful. I say again how much I miss you and hope one day soon to return to the fold….always, Gay
We miss you too Gay ~ Take care and thanks for dropping ~
Gay, I’m so happy to see you here even if you are only passing through. I myself have just gotten back into writing again after a very long break away and am so thankful that dVerse has always been here for me in my comings and goings.
I hope to see more of you…when you’re ready of course.
Regards,
Gayle
Life can get in the way. We’re always happy to see you when you can drop by.
loved the jazz number you shared with us. I wrote and posted before I listened and was surprised to see the video shows traveling down a road
I love what you wrote… and so interesting you came up with it.
Thank you Bjorn. I enjoyed the jazz too. Happy Halloween!
Howling back 🙂
:o)
Thanks for sharing the music. I don’t recall having heard it before, but it’s in my collection now!
Hello Bill, it’s very much based on Swedish traditions mixed with Jazz
That was a lovely piece of music, Bjorn, I don’t think I’ve ever heard it before. I’m a big jazz fan, but with the folk song vibe it was quite different!
I rather like the bracing air of autumn and the gorgeous colours, so it was not melancholy I was feeling this time. The sense of time passing, though, that’s a different matter. And always a concern. Tick tock.
It is music that I think every Swede has heard at one time… Jan Johansson died too young, but he comes from that golden age of Swedish Jazz of the early sixties…
How long is the bar open for if it is an open link night. I loved Bodhirose’s poem on her cat and we have been very preoccupied saying goodbye to our family cat. I do love the way blogging makes such heart warming and timely connections.
It’s open a few hours more.. It closes at 8 PM CET
Sweeping the bar, washing up the glasses, and on Monday we’ll be back with haibun monday… welcome back then 🙂
“…a day late…”
