Welcome everyone, this is Gayle and I’m your host for Open Link Night.
This week will be a happily busy one for me as my two out-of-town sisters are visiting. We four sisters spent Mother’s Day together with our mother for the first time in a very long while so it was especially meaningful for all of us. There were twelve of us at our luncheon on Sunday.

One of the sisters made the drive over to Sebastian from Orlando this week to spend a couple days with me and to see the other family members that reside here. My youngest sister will arrive a little later and stay several days as her daughter lives here as well. So I’m feeling delighted and blessed to have them here…we are a close bunch and love to spend time together.
Perhaps you may feel reflective after just having had Mother’s Day and would like to share thoughts about the day or your relationship with your mother…good or bad or somewhere in between.
As you know, Open Link Night means choosing any ONE poem that you would like to share with us and there is no prompt, subject or form to follow. I look forward to reading what you offer.
Here’s how to participate:
- Enter a link directly to your one poem and your name by clicking Mr Linky below.
- There you will find the links to other poets, and more will be joining in during the next 33 hours so be sure and check back frequently.
- Read and comment on other poet’s work, we all come here to have our poems read and commented on.
- Promote your site and the poetry that you like on the social media of your choice.
- Have fun!

Prose poetry is one of my favorite forms… will soon be over to read.

And there is haibun – mainly prose with haiku at the end. So I think you are mos def submitting something we will all enjoy.

No time or inspiration to write a new poem today so I’m sharing one I wrote during NaPoWriMo.

Oh yes.. we did write a lot of nice poetry in April

Enjoy your time ~ I had a wonderful Sunday dinner with all my kids and it was lovely catching up with what they are up to ~
Welcome to OLN everyone ~ Gayle will be here shortly ~

We do not celebrate Mother’s day here at this day… but I still spent the weekend with both my mother and my mother in law (separately)
Grace said:
If both of them are near where I am, I will be visiting them more regularly too ~
I am still in the office but will be by to visit everyone when I get home ~

I love that you are attentive to your mother and mother-in-law, Bjorn…very sweet.

I know you’ve been super busy with work, Bjorn. Yes, it’s nice to be able to catch your breath and relax a bit…and now off to bed. Sweet dreams!

Hello everyone, please pardon my poem about my late dad, but today, would have been his 80th birthday, and I do miss him. Besides, I have written enough of my toxic relationship, with my mom.
Björn Rudberg (brudberg) said:
I look forward to read about your dad… soon there.
Bodhirose said:
No need for apologies, Therisa. I look forward to reading your poem and I’m sorry for the loss of your father.

Hi, , gang! Just wanted to say Happy Poeming. I will be back later with poem, and to do some fabulous reading. I loved hosting the Golden Shovel post this past week. The Linky is expired, but if anybody wants to post one for OLN, be sure to point me that way! I’d love to read it. 🙂
Gayle, I’m so glad you’re having a great visit. 🙂
Happy words, all.
Björn Rudberg (brudberg) said:
I didn’t do a golden shovel… but I might do one again.. really enjoyed it.
Bodhirose said:
Happy Poeming, De! I was able to get a break today (after our lunch out together) and get myself over here. I loved the Golden Shovel prompt and will enjoy revisiting it again some time. It was really fun and such an interesting prompt.
See you around!
kanzensakura said:
Happy poeming! The Golden Shovel was super. I read so many amazing poems and learned about people by what they chose.

Lots of love,

Hi Sanaa…and thanks for the compliment on behalf of my mother. She is a beauty even at 90 years of age. 🙂 I’m having so much fun with my sisters. It’s been great having them here.
I’ll be paying you a visit soon.

How wonderful to have you hosting, Gayle. You are so lucky to still have your Mom, & these days for me, family & reunions are everything; all else is gravy & trimmings. I’m still trying to catch up our readers on over 50 of my BLACKTHORNE episodes; handling 30-35 today.
Bodhirose said:
Thank you, Glenn. And I do feel very fortunate to still have Mom around…at 90 years of age too! The sisters coming for Mother’s Day was an especially sweet gift for our mother.
I’ll be by later to enjoy your next installment of Blackthorne…I do enjoy it! 🙂

Thanks Gayle, for the invitation to write about my Mom today.
Bodhirose said:
Oh, you’re welcome, Annell. I just thought I would throw that out there in case there were some residual thoughts to share on Moms! 🙂
Björn Rudberg (brudberg) said:
I do love the poetry so far… But my eyes keep closing all the time so now it’s bedtime for me.
kanzensakura said:
Hi Gayle! How wonderful to be able to celebrate your mom and sisters. I can see how you resemble her. I’m not writing about my mom. Being a daring soul today – LOL. Submitting a tanka and haiku as two verses of one poem. Oh my goodness….what a wild one I am.
Bodhirose said:
Very wonderful, Toni! 🙂 I’m honored to resemble her. She was a fashion model in her younger years…I should share some of her photos. She was stunning!
And yes, what brought on your daring mood for today?!

Had an extra good day doing my sword forms…always makes me frisky.

Still making my way (slowly) through reading & commenting on Tuesday’s posts, before moving on to today, but this one just fell into my lap today, so I thought I’d put it out here for your (I hope) enjoyment. Back later for more reading.
Bodhirose said:
Well, I’m sure everyone appreciates your dedication, Pamela. I had to skip the whole week because of my visitors. I just could not do it.
I look forward to reading your poem…thanks for sharing today.

Oh Gayle: such a lovely picture of your mother. And for her, I’m certain that at 90 she was most delighted to have all her girls together, with her, on Mother’s Day.
Boston has a Make Way for Ducklings Parade every Mothers’ Day. Robert NcCloskey set the book in Boston and there is a wonderful sculpture in Boston Commons. For the first time my daughter and her family came and we walked the route of Mrs Mallard together. Such fun!
Bodhirose said:
Thank you, Lillian…she is a lovely woman. She truly was overjoyed to have us all together…a real treat for her. I remember that sweet book from my childhood and what fun for you to walk the route of Mrs. Mallard with your family.
lillian said:
And here I am again. Just back from a lovely walk to see the lilacs in the Boston Arboretum — celebrating my birthday week 😊 doing favorite things. Tomorrow is the actual day – so if anyone is leery of Friday the 13th, I declare it to be a lucky day tomorrow and will be treating myself to cappuccino and strawberry shortcake in the North End pastry shop 😊🎉☕️🍰
PS: great “door” poems everyone!
kanzensakura said:
Lilacs…ummmmmm. Glad you are having such a wonderful birthday week. And just for you, I think you will enjoy.

Lillian, I love when my birthday turns into a celebration stretched into a week or more which is how it seems to go lately. The walk of the ducks reminds me of the famous Peabody Hotel and their ducks. Enjoy your lengthy birthday fun…and that strawberry shortcake! 🙂

Good evening everyone. Shared a poem I posted on my blog yesterday. I’ve been doing a lot of writing this week.
Bodhirose said:
Good evening, Maria…I look forward to reading your poem and good for you for getting some writing done this week. I can’t say the same though.
Bekkie Sanchez said:
Hello, Gayle nice to meet you! I’ve been out of town for my birthday this week and just squeaked in on time to share a haiku I wrote in 2015 and republished.
I’m going home today after a lovely visit with my friends and will be glad to get back to writing. I’ve been off a week. I had such a good time I’ve known these friends for decades.
I will be reading this week.
Hugs! Bekkie
Bodhirose said:
Hi Bekkie…we’ve met before over at my blog, Bodhirose’s Blog and at yours too, we’re not quite strangers. 🙂 Happy belated birthday greetings to you and how nice you got a week off to visit old friends. Sounds wonderful!
Enjoy your reading. 🙂

I had no idea your first name was Gayle, so I thought 2 people were hosting. Lol! Silly me! I do remember you, you have always been very supportive of my work and I appreciate it. It was a wonderful birthday and now I’m back home ready to write. I think you used to drop in a Magpie too?
Bodhirose said:
Haha…no just me hosting. Believe me I know how tricky it can be to keep track of everyone’s name…and some people you never know what their names are. Thanks for your compliment for me too, Bekkie. I did participate with Magpie in the past…it was fun. Maybe I’ll pop over there again sometime. Glad to hear you had a nice birthday.

Magpie is on hiatus I checked last week and saw the message. Since Tess moved to the UK there’s been less prompts so I’m not surprised. I like doing image prompts so I hope it’s not for long. Thanks so much Gayle! Hugs!

Hi Gayle and everyone who may still drop in…
Just linked up a poem I had written for De’s Golden Shovel prompt. Will make some visits tonight and in the morning. Also enjoying the haibuns this week. 🙂
Mother’s Day was very quiet..just dinner and a drive with my mom. I am just grateful that I still have her in my life.
lillian said:
After a day away from the pub, I am back to read, peruse, and enjoy everyone’s posts to OLN. Your mother’s day sounds delightful, Mish. Sometimes just a quiet time can be the most satisfying. I did look through some old photographs of my mom that night — and smiled at the memories.
Bodhirose said:
Hi Mish…have read your Golden Shovel and enjoyed your little “dig” at the newscaster who seemingly didn’t know where Alberta was…or didn’t reference it in his reporting. Anyway, your time with your Mom sounded very pleasant. I’m glad you still have her too.
