Hello everyone, this is Abhra, greeting you for this week’s poetics. I hope all of you are doing well.
This year I had one of the hottest summers ever. Thankfully the Northwester has started after a few very hot days and given us a big relief. It is now calm and colder. The air is heavy. I like the feeling. It is very pleasant and almost feels like the rainy season but that won’t be here until a few months from now.
Before I share this week’s post, I want to break the news that I have requested to step down from the chair of a bartender here. With my daughter growing up, work and the time difference with EST, I feel I am not able to give writing or hosting here a share of my mind, that I used to. It seems only yesterday, that Brian and Claudia brought me in – that was two years ago. I don’t remember the exact day now – but it was sometime in March or April in 2014. As Claudia said, I tried to bring in a flavor of my history and culture through the prompts as a variation and it worked out very well. To read and write for Dverse has been the biggest thing that has happened to me in my creative journey thus far.
Coming to this week’s prompt – here is what I have in mind – I want you to write a poem about the farewell you gave but didn’t mean to – the good-bye you said but hoped that you will meet again at the crossroads. I know it happened to me before, more than once – that I got onto a train, waved my hands involuntarily, the people I left behind fading slowly and that only made me realize how strong the bond was. I hope you will enjoy writing this – come join me and celebrate poetry.
It has been nothing short of fantastic with you all lovely people here and though I might join back in future, as of now, with a heavy heart I bid you all good-bye. If you are reading my post or poetics for the first time, here is what you have to do.

It feels sad to say goodbye to a bartender, though I always prefer to say like the French… “au revoir”, we will meet again Abhra, sometimes life is filled and we have to make priorities…
Abhra, brother poet, we never did the collaboration poem we discussed, & your life has pulled you away from poetics a lot lately. Kudos for focusing on family & immediate life issues–but we all know, or hope we do, that the poet within you will nudge its way to the surface now & again, & it will be like a homecoming each time you join us. I treasure you & your words.
I do look forward to the collaboration anyway… maybe something to be posted later

Hello everyone. Back from the MD with my husband – just routine. I will be in and out and out and about reading and commenting. I hope I interpreted the prompt correctly. I’ve never said goodbye and not meant it. If not sure, I’ve always said until later…. but it will be interested to see what gets posted. I love this about the prompts and poems…

I wish I didn’t have to – but lately things have become a little stressful for me – I hope to join as prompt participants as and when time permits though.
It’s always hard to say “farewell”–sometimes harder on the blogs, than in “real life”. I wish you well, hope you’ll be back when you can 🙂

And — a second post here — I’m back! Had a WONDERFUL 5 days in NC with my son and his family — my daughter and her family also came out for a few of the days. Birthday celebrations and much family love and laughter! Missed writing and reading — but family first is a good motto and I shall enjoy writing and reading again this morning over my morning cup 🙂
TO SHARE: I taught my precocious 9 year old grandaughter how to write an etheree (previous prompt) — we talked a lot about poetry and she read aloud my fractured tale of Jack and the Beanstalk poem 🙂 and others. So — here is what she wrote:
Stella’s Animal Etheree
Once
I saw
a wrinkly
green elephant.
It had purple spots,
escaped from a circus
and was walking down the street.
Hello! I said. Goodbye! it said
and off it walked down the cobblestones.
Goodbye! I said and then away I went.
Next, I met a cute turquoise koala.
I gave it a hug and sat up high
in a tree. I sat and started
to fly. Way in the blue sky,
then down I came. Down. Down.
A truck came at me!
I tried to fly
and then up!
I woke!
Bye!

Your poem brought me a smile – I think I am going to read it out to my daughter. She is just starting her rhymes though.
She really had fun writing it! She also did three American Sentences about pigeons! 🙂
