This is Gayle from Bodhirose’s Blog…hello and welcome to Open Link Night! We’re well into August which always turns my mind to birthday celebrations as three of my siblings have birthdays this month, and just for fun, I thought I would look into the month of August for some interesting facts:
- The birthstones for August are periodot and sardonyx.
- Zodiac signs are Leo (July 23-August 22) and Virgo (August 23-September 22).
- Birth flowers for this month are the Gladiolus and Poppy.
- On August 3, 1492, Christopher Columbus set sail on his first voyage across the Atlantic.
- On August 6, 1926, Gertrude Ederle successfully swam the English Channel.
- On August 12, 1877, the phonograph was invented by Thomas Edison.
- On August 12, 1898, Hawaii was annexed by the United States.
- National Peach Month

Hi Gayle. Thanks for hosting. That pic on the left looks almost like the pic I took at a farmer’s market last year of gorgeous peaches.
Bodhirose said:
Hi Toni, you’re very welcome…it’s my pleasure. I’ve been eating some peaches this summer and they’ve been so good, very sweet and juicy. Love them.

Can I enter a poem from a blogspot or do I have to be on WordPress to be a part of this Just wondering -Vanessa

You sure can, Vanessa…no need to be on WordPress. Welcome!

Thanks for hosting, Gayle. mmmmm…those peaches look yummy! They look refreshing — and please may I have a glass of sparkling water with a twist of lime and plenty of ice? There is a heat advisory in Boston today – ugh. Thank goodness we have AC. City has set up “relief” posts for those without. As the post gone by said, hot hOT HOT!
Bodhirose said:
Your sparkling water with lots of ice is coming right up, Lillian! A heat advisory…oh that’s not good, best stay indoors to stay cool. I really feel for those who can’t escape it.

Fascinating take on the month of August… And really Great to see the dVerse community pressing on so brightly now into its sixth year!
Although a busy summer for me so far has meant I have only just managed to get here with my latest piece.
As ever, comments and/or personal responses always very welcome and much appreciated… Hope you enjoy and really looking forward to catching up with everyone’s new work later this evening too…

Hi Gayle and everyone! Happy to link my poem in response to De’s earlier “breathing in blue” prompt. I look forward to tasting a peach and reading poetry here. We received a refreshing rain after some very hot and humid days. It all makes the corn grow!
Bodhirose said:
Hi Lynn…De’s prompt was really fun; I’m glad you were able to get to it and post today. We’ve finally had some afternoon showers here lately…it does help cool things off. Glad the corn is getting some rain!
lynn__ said:
Thanks, Gayle. Rainy weather is also good for the farmer to take a much needed nap!

It seems that my summer can’t go by without a tomato poem–and I think it fits in well with your August theme, Gayle. Thanks for hosting and for the fun facts you share.
Bodhirose said:
I just read your tomato haibun, Victoria…I’m so impressed! It fit in perfectly with the theme here…thank you…and you’re welcome. 🙂

Sorry, Gayle. Today went sideways on me, big time. Not sure I’ll be able to do Open Link this week. Will see, tomorrow.
Bodhirose said:
No worries, De. I would never want to pressure anyone to participate when they have too much to do already. OLN is for the poets…not for me.
purplepeninportland said:
Missed De’s prompt, so here I am!
Bodhirose said:
Hi Sara…good to see you. I was just making one last round until I turn in for the night.

Sorry I’m late to the Thursday bar but my husband took me for a surprise trip to Cambridge, where we had several delicious meals, drinks in the Anchor pub, where Pink Floyd used to hang out, went punting on the River Cam, shopping for my birthday present(s) and then virtual plane flying – I let David do that as the cockpit was too claustrophobic for me – he was very good at it! We’re not long home, so I’ll try to write a poem about Cambridge – with photographs! 🙂
Bodhirose said:
Hi Kim, I too was surprised by an out of town trip to be with relatives. Just got back tonight…had a great time. Happy belated birthday and it sounds like you had a fun trip too.
Why don’t you save your poem for another OLN where more people will be able to see it. Once Mr. Linky expires that’s pretty much the end of people visiting and commenting here.
Thanks for trying to make it, Kim!
kim881 said:
Thank you for the birthday greetings, Gayle. looking forward to tonight’s prompt – I’ll be late back from choir tonight because we’re recording a song so I don’t know if I’ll join in this evening (our time) or tomorrow morning.
kim881 said:
Mr Linky expired 39 minutes before I attempted to add my post, so I have put it here in the hop that someone will see it!
Bodhirose said:
Kim, I see now that someone must have added your link…surprise!

Hey! I am here for the first time. And looks like mr linky stopped taking in new entrants…:D
So, looking forward to catch up the next time! 🙂
