Hello everyone! I hope you are ready for another week of poetry challenges. And for those participating in the NaPoMo, you are almost at the finishing line. Hurrah!

Our word for Quadrille Monday is STILL. Use it as a noun, adjective, adverb or verb. You can also combine still with another word like stillness, stillwaters, stillborn, stillrooms, or even standstill. Our challenge: please write a poem of precisely 44 words, not including the title, and including a given word.

If you are new, here’s how to join in:
- Write a poem of 44 words including the word still and post it to your blog.
- Click on Mr. Linky to add your name and direct URL to your poem.
- Drop by the pub to say hello.
- Visit other blogs. Enjoy some amazing poets. Comment on your fellow poet’s poem. Come back later this week and write another one, and visit some more. Comment some more. Create as many spring poems as you please. I’ll be reading all week.
- Have fun!

Happy Monday and Happy Quadrille ~

Happy quadrille to you Grace! Thank you for hosting and for presenting us with this perfect word.
Grace said:
Thanks to Victoria for suggesting it, smiles ~ Cherry blossoms here at peak blooms ~ Happy spring day ~
kanzensakura said:
It is cold and rainy here for the next few days. tornados were out and about – it’s that time of year down South. But the early spring was spectacular.
Grace said:
We are a bit late with spring, but its lovely at this time ~ Take care of yourself ~
kanzensakura said:
I will. You take care of you as well! And my prayers continue for your mother and for you.

Believe it or not, it is in the high 90’s to 100’s here in the California desert. Time to join the birds and migrate north.

Happy Q44 Day, all! And happy finish line week for NaPoWriMo. Whew. Who’s tired?
kanzensakura said:
Not me from Napo….I’m tired from other things. I don’t play the Napo game. but I am glad you are enjoying it! 🙂
Grace said:
I tried that twice only and I was so exhausted by the end of April ~ Congrats to those in the finishing last week ~
kanzensakura said:
I tried it twice. by day 5 I was bored with the prompts and everything started sounding the same. So….no no NAPO!
whimsygizmo said:
Toni, I am only doing the prompts from the official NaPo site that interest me. I’m doing every day over at Poetic Asides, and then some others (toads, here, etc.) sprinkled in. 😉
erbiage said:
I’m doing it. Second year. It led me to this pub and all you amazing poets. Am getting tired of all the prompts, but I’m resolved to push through. If I was getting paid to write, I’d have to produce, so it’s an interesting exercise.
Janice said:
Lovely post and prompt … look forward to sitting with it later on today.
Grace said:
Come and play Janice ~
kanzensakura said:
Thank you Victoria for suggesting the word and thank you to Grace for Hosting! Now I think I have that right.
Grace said:
Thanks Toni ~ See you in the poetry trail in a bit ~
Björn Rudberg (brudberg) said:
Alas my hiatus is extended a bit. Let us see when I can get back. Would love to do a poem on moonshine and still 🙂
Grace said:
Bjorn, take your time and come back when ready ~ I would love that moonshine and stillness ~
erbiage said:
Ah, Bjorn! You are missed. Hope all is well. Yes, there is a stillness late at night, in the moonshine. And moonshine in the still.
Jane Dougherty said:
Sorry if mine isn’t sweetness and light. It’s not the right day for that.
kanzensakura said:
Doesn’t always have to be clappy happy as my friend Kim says. Mine isn’t sweetness and light either. I think a lot of people feel that way today. It is rainy here in the south and cold after a hot dry early spring. Bummer!
Jane Dougherty said:
I tend to let sadness for other people creep up on me and take over.
kanzensakura said:
I haven’t done that in awhile having enough sadness in my life at this point in time. But I used to do it, used to let it take over me at times. And I will always feel guilty for the bombs dropped that day.
Jane Dougherty said:
We should feel guilty in the names of all those who never did. Living in France is like living in a cemetery. There are so many dead here, dead horribly and they are all remembered by somebody.
kanzensakura said:
The same is true here, in the south. All the graves, all the dead. All the unburied dead. People are always digging up a femur or a skull or a bit of spine – Regardless of the reasons for the dead, they are dead and were once loved by someone.
Jane Dougherty said:
It’s baffling how we have been so successful as a species.
Sherry Blue Sky said:
Hi friends, I thought you might like to know that we are featuring Bjorn Rudberg and his Aged Librarian series over at Poets United today and tomorrow. Am sure you will find it interesting, if you have time to stop by. Smiles. Bjorn, you are the best!
Grace said:
Have read the post Sherry ~ Thanks for featuring Bjorn and his Aged Librarian series ~

We are on the same trail tonight Bjorn. Hope you are resting well.
kanzensakura said:
Oh my. I don’t know whether to laugh or to cry but I like this higgery-diggery poem a lot Bjorn. Good to see you. Take it easy.
Grace said:
be still…hush…a lovely share Bjorn ~
whimsygizmo said:
Beautiful. Rest well, my poetic friend. Thinking of you.
paul scribbles said:
Happy whatever day it is in poetry writing-daze-world! I am actually not well…some kind of viral throat/stomach bug…I hope….but still writing for napo and slowly catching up with reading. See you on the trail.
Grace said:
Hope you feel better Paul ~ Almost at the end of NaPo week ~ See you in a bit ~
Just Barry said:
Ah, still… one of my favorite words. The challenge will be in holding to the 44-word limit!
Nevertheless, challenge accepted. I’ll see what I can come up with later this evening (PST).
Grace said:
That’s the challenge ~ See you in the poetry trail Barry ~
sarahsouthwest said:
I’m all poetry-ed out today. I’d like to do something more … meaningful?…but sometimes you do what you can. I’m hoping something will bubble up, but in the meantime, here you go!
kanzensakura said:
Don’t worry Sarah. I like it!!!

I’ve added a picture link to my whisky poem for those who might like a glimpse of the magical Islands of Islay and Jura

ThanQ for joining us Crystal ~

Thanks for hosting, Grace. There was another prompt, “liberty dies”, that was going through my mind. I started with that and then the melody took over and I forgot all about it and then there was the opportunity to use the word “still”. I also wanted to find an excuse to post that swan nesting. It’s done.
Grace said:
I love your poem and swan nesting photo Frank~

Happy Quadrille Monday everyone! I’m just back from choir, where we have not been still! We’ve been singing ‘Piece of my Heart’ and ‘Shine’! Lots of ‘dum dum dum’s in ‘Shine’ and there was a cake sale halfway through to raise funds for a choir initiative – I think it’s to help the homeless in Norwich. My life is just about to become very busy with GCSE exam marking amongst other things. Early morning poetry sets me up for the day, so I won’t be cutting down too much on that! I hope everyone is keeping well and enjoying some nice weather – we’re expecting lower temperatures this week and the possibility of snow.
Grace said:
No snow surely Kim…We are passed that and now enjoying the full blooms of cherry trees ~ Take care ~
kim881 said:
It’s nearly 7.30 am and I keep seeing reports of snow along the east coast of Britain – it’s chilly and we had overnight rain but at the moment the sky is blue and the sun is not shining but it has a Mona Lisa smile on its face! Oh – I might use that in a poem!
Singledust said:
lovely word Grace! conveys much in its simplicity, linking up my little lines soon. Nice to see you hosting today!
Grace said:
Hi Gina ~ Thanks for joining our Q challenge ~ Feel free to write some more, if you like ~

Still – a beautiful word. Love some of the poetry coming out of this prompt

Sorry I am late to the bar this time and thank you for hosting Grace. I had already posted a haiku beginning with ‘still’ yesterday and have taken the quadrille in a slightly different direction for that reason. I hope you are all keeping warm – sleet and snow showers here at the moment. I will swing by to read with some warm chai :o)
Kathy Reed said:
Crazy weather aside, I wonder how many of the 50 plus posts I can finish by the end of the day!?
Grace said:
I know, so many poems to read as the Q challenge is very popular ~ I suggest picking out those poets who respond back to you if you have only a limited time to read and visit ~
Laura Bloomsbury said:
Still one of the last for the quadrille – but the theme is very moving – thank you!

I will be back on the trail tonight folks ~ Thank you for the terrific response to the prompt ~

Great to attempt this 44-words poem. Smaller poems don’t necessarily take lesser time 🙂
Thanks Grace. Have a great week!
