Lillian here, coming to you today from Washington DC! Here for the month of May as major rehab being done to our building in Boston. Delighted to host Poetics for the dVerse gang today!
I went to the grocery store the other day, to pick up a few items. Not in a hurry, I wandered a bit and happened into the cereal section. It was four levels high and incredibly long, with a mind-boggling number of options. And this prompt was born.
So let’s have some fun!
- Choose ONE category FROM THE THREE GIVEN BELOW.
- Include AT LEAST TWO of the brands listed IN YOUR CHOSEN CATEGORY, in the BODY of your poem.
- Use the brand name’s words as words.
- If one of the brand names you select has two words in it, try to use the two words in the same order as the brand does.
PLEASE NOTE : If you choose the Candy Bar category, do not write a poem about candy bars, including three of the candy bar names in your poem. Instead, use the words to refer to something other than a candy bar. Noodle with the words in the brand name!
HINT: You may find the need to use a form of the word – as in “mounded” or “mounding” instead of “mounds”. BUT – a synonym for the word will not count. IE using the word “piles” instead of “mounds” will not fulfill the prompt.
Here’s the 3 Category lists (remember to choose only one category!)
CANDY BARS
Charleston Chew
Butterfinger
Chuckles
Kit-Kat
Snickers
Milky Way
Mr. Goodbar
Mars Bar
5th Avenue
Oh, Henry!
Pay Day
Baby Ruth

Cap’n Crunch
Special K
Alpha-Bits
Chex
Cocoa Puffs
Harvest Crunch
Count Chocula
Frosted Flakes
Puffed Wheat
*** Your poem can be any form and any length you prefer. But it must utilize only one of the categories above. And it must include the word/words of at least two of the brands within that list.
Looking forward to what you come up with! Have fun noodling with the brands!

Hello everyone! Coming to you from Washington DC today where it is hot and humid. Candy bars would melt in this weather! Looking forward to what you’re noodling will look like with these words from brand names. Have fun with this one! Lots of cool drinks available — step up to the bar!

Hello… poem written but I need a few edits before posting… just came back from a play reading… The read “Girls like that”… very good play… very discomforting. I can really recommend play readings if you find a theater doing that.
lillian said:
I do think that would be something to enjoy….probably must less costly to “put on” then a fully staged play…and you would really pay attention to the scenes and words then. Glad to see you here, Bjorn. Look forward to your post. I’ve guessed which category you’ll use….let’s see if I’m right! 🙂
Björn Rudberg (brudberg) said:
I can tell that it’s not candy bars…
lillian said:
Yep…..I knew that! 🙂
lillian said:
Hmmmm….no one’s taken on the cereals yet……too grainey perhaps? 🙂
Björn Rudberg (brudberg) said:
Maybe a cereal killer poem is in place.

Good evening Lillian and whoever else might be here. What could be more fun than keeping chocolates in mind 😉
lillian said:
Mmmm yes! They say a bit of dark chocolate every day is healthy! So surely, candy bars in moderation, within a diet of poetic words, is good for the psyche! 😊
Janice said:
Poetic candy with poetic vegetables perhaps 😉
lillian said:
That’s a chocavegaholic I think? 🙂
Janice said:
Sounds right 😉

Leaving the pub for the night…..but not to worry, I’m leaving the light on and a key under the mat by the front shutter. Libations available for all. Keep stopping by with your posts. I’ll be reopening in the morning! 🙂
