Greetings dVerse Poets and welcome to Open Link Night! This is Kim, Writing in North Norfolk, your host for the next couple of days.
It’s 1st November. Last weekend the clocks went back in the UK and we celebrate Bonfire Night on Monday. We now have dark mornings and night is drawing in by four o’clock.
I found a new November poem recently, which I’d like to share. It’s called November by Elizabeth Drew Stoddard: https://www.poets.org/poetsorg/poem/november-1
I’d also like to share photograph I took in 2017 which, for me, encapsulates the bleakness and the beauty of November.
As most of you know, unless you’re a newcomer here, Open Link Night is when you choose any ONE poem of yours to share. There is no prompt and there are no specific instructions to follow. Enjoy your time here and pay your fellow pub-goers a visit as everyone makes the rounds of reading and sharing. Here is how you link your poem:
Write a poem on your blog.
Enter a link directly to your one poem and your name by clicking Mr Linky below and remember to check the little box to accept the use/privacy policy.
You will find links to other poets and more will join during the next 48 hours.
Read and comment on other poets’ work. We all come here to have our poems read.
Please link back to dVerse from your site/blog.
Comment and participate in our discussion below, if you like. We are a friendly bunch of poets.
Enjoy!
Thanks Kim for hosting. I know that there is a time change, but its open link night time here!!!
Good evening, Grace! I’m sorry I’m late but I forgot that our clocks go back before yours! Also my husband just got back from Scotland and I lost track of the time. I hope the weather is holding up for you all – we’ve had rain all day. I haven’t posted my poem yet, but I’d better say hallo to everyone first. 😉
Currently I’m at the concert hall will be back later
I hope you’re enjoying the concert, Björn.

Thank you for hosting us, Kim! ❤️ November 1st is also Day of the Dead i.e Día de Muertos) a Mexican holiday which focuses on praying for and remembering friends and family members who have passed away.
I thought to pen down a poem in honour of my identical twin sister .. whom I never had the opportunity of knowing .. she died at birth. I think she must be smiling right now 🙂
Happy OLN everyone! ❤️
Good evening, Sanaa! I’m looking forward to reading your poem. My father had a twin who died as a baby. I think all lost twins will be smiling this evening. 🙂 Happy OLN!

Thanks for hosting Kim. Grey day here – much like your lovely photograph. Poem is posted, now snuggling in to read and delight in tonight’s fare.
Hi V.J.! We’ve had a grey rainy day, too. I’m sorry I’m late joining you but I forgot that we have a time difference for a while. 🙂

Howdy Kim — thanks for hosting OLN. I read the poem you linked to….especially liked the line about the bier for the old year. Interesting way to think of wrapping up the old year. I’m posted…..
Howdy Lill! I slipped up on the timing today even though I commented on the clocks going back! I hope you all forgive me. 🙂
I agree, the Stoddard poem was fabulous, Ioved the peace in the Autumn woods and roughened moss
Thank you, Lona.
Hello Kim- Adding one I have been working on- a Blitz poem! Thanks for hosting tonight!
Hello Linda! I’m looking forward to reading your poem in a short while. I forgot to post my own!
Oops! So sorry I’m late but I forgot that there would be a time difference for a while. When do the clocks go back in the states? I owe everyone a drink so I’d better get on with it!
It goes back this Sunday so we will be on the same time zone by then. No worries as it can get confusing. See you in the poetry trail.
Thank you for hosting tonight Kim and happy OLN everyone! I have linked a haibun from last month and will swing by to read in a moment :o) xxx
Hi Xenia! I’m so pleased we are in the same time zone! I forgot and am now behind with reading and commenting – I haven’t even posted a poem yet!

Nice photo! I like the close up of the leafless branches and behind them those full trees.
Thank you, Frank! I took that just down the road from us, before you get to the open fields. The last pink rose…

thanks for hosting Kim! 🙂
and I happened across the poem you’ve shared here, for our walk into November the other day, and was swept into ~ LOL – I almost used it this past week at Toads for my hosting …. glad that you’ve featured it.
and since it’s officially the 1st now – and well, as you’ve noted, so much begins this month … I wish you wistful but joyful November walking and poeming 🙂
Hey Pat! You know what they say about great minds… I did a bit of walking in November rain this morning and hope to do a bit more. But I really must get to the castle museum soon – I have a date with a mammoth!
LOL@date with a mammoth! 😀
I can appreciate that – and remember, stay dry – no sense in catching a chill, no matter how tempting rain walks can be 🙂
🙂
Dates with mammoths are great, you don’t have to shave 💃🏻

Thanks Kim! Gorgeous November Photo! I love the stark branches against the silver gray sky. I missed Lillian’s deadline for her “Stock Phrase” prompt, so I am posting that here, and also on the Haibun Monday since it fits there. Thank you for hosting, I will have a little spot of peppermint tea, the songbird teacup on the wishing well saucer please. 🙂
Good choice of tea, Lona, and I love the songbird teacup on the wishing well saucer – it knocks my Mad Hatter’s tea party mug into a cocked hat! I’m afraid I’ve been to bed and got up again – reading and commenting will be resumed shortly after a mug of cranberry and raspberry tea! 🙂
Mmm, sounds perfect
