Welcome!
This is Mish, bringing you Open Link Night…..
and a little chit chat about the weather.
It’s inevitable for some of us. A rarity or novelty for others. As a child I loved it. Now I dread it. Sometimes loathe it. However, from a cozy couch, accompanied with a hot cup of tea, it is heavenly to watch.
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow….
This view isn’t actually from my couch, but a nearby conservation area last winter. Lovely trails for every season.
I do enjoy the four seasons that are so distinct here in southern Ontario. Their brevity brings us appreciation for each of them, but we always seem to be anticipating the next transition….including the winter, complete with ice and snow.
A local park looking a bit lonely.
SO….this is where you link up ONE poem of your choice. There is no specific prompt. If the thought of snow does not warm your poetic soul, I will not be offended. You can write to any topic you wish. That is the beauty of OLN. It is also an opportunity to respond to an earlier prompt that you may have missed, such as Victoria’s Poetics, “Fire Up That Creativity”.
How to join in:
- Write a poem in your blog.
- Enter your name and direct link to your poem into Mr. Linky.
- You will also find some other amazing poems. Please read and comment.
- Link back to dVerse so others can find us too!
- Drop in to say hello in our discussion below.
- Have fun!

Hello Mish, part of me love the winter, but it doesn’t really start until early next year… first we need to pass this dreadful darkness… (which inspired my short poem)… hope you are all well a Thursday like this

Hi Bjorn….Yes, I think there is something comforting about the snow and cold surrounding me as long as I am indoors….making soup or writing poetry.

In the spirit of Imeld’s prompt, I’ve waited until now to post a haibun. Enjoy the snow! I’m definitely a winter girl.

Hi all. Nice intro, Mish. I will pour some Bailey’s into my hot tea and offer the bottle to any who care to warm up their beverage. Cheers! Off to put my writing cap on…

Hmm…wondering how it would taste in a cup of hot chocolate.

I am posting a fable broadside that I made this week using art by Nagasawa Rosetsu, and 18th century painter.
Mish said:
That sounds very interesting, m.j. Looking forward to reading it.

Hello!!! My drive home was dark, dreary and dusted in snow!
I am not sure how long I am willing to continue this job with the distance and dicey weather of Winter….but for now, it is my life.
THANK YOU to all of you pub tenders who open the doors when I can’t be here to. I am very appreciative.

Hello Mish! We will get through this winter. Good that you are now home and warm and safe. See you in the poetry trail.

Thank you Mish for hosting. Open Link Night means open doors, so I am letting a little of the Utah snow from my childhood blow into my Alabama home now. First wrote this when I was in High School, it was 3 pages long in first draft. After three years I finished it and now it is, well, a little bit shorter, but finally right. Nobody but family has seen it until now, your snowy OLN let it drift in thirty years later. I am not thirsty, but am glad to sit here with y’all, I think I am just going to sit quietly in the corner and stare at this pomegranate rolling cruelly on the table.
Mish said:
How wonderful that your poem landed gently here 30 years later. We should be honoured. Will be by to read soon. Thanks so much for joining in, Lona. 🙂
So strange that just today I watched my supervisor meticulously peel apart a pomegranate.
Lona Gynt said:
Oh, be careful of that supervisor! DON’T SHARE HIS POMEGRANATE!!!! WHATEVER YOU DO!!! You may only be able to leave work 6 months of the year if you do…

Hi, Mish! Sorry if I seemed to have dumped (posted) and ran. I was out for dinner and wine with my love, and remembered I wanted to post tonight. Just got back home, restarted the dryer, fed the dog…. So… Hi!
Mish said:
Hi Charley! No worries at all. That sounds like a wonderful evening. I am still catching up to read. See ya’ on the poetry trail. 🙂

Hi all! We are currently on the road and wifi is sporadic, so won’t be joining in this session, but will stop by with a ‘like’ when I can. Trying to escape the cold (albeit beauty) of winter. Cheers.

Thank you for hosting, Mish! I’m late with posting, as usual. I was going to write about snow, but I just wasn’t feeling it. Then I had this dream last night. . . 🙂

This is a bit late as a comment, but I must make it. I wrote a very personal love poem for this prompt. I hesitated before I posted it, fearing it may not be appropriate, as compared to something more ethereal or darker. Thank yop to everyone who responded with sensitive positive comments. I greatly appreciate the care with which you all handled this bit of my heart… 🙂
Mish said:
Hello Rob, I think as poets here at dVerse, we respect each other’s personal stories, whether dark or light, joyful or sad. It was certainly appropriate to share your beautiful tribute to love. Congrats on your anniversary!
