Welcome to OpenLinkNight everyone! As you know OpenLinkNight is your opportunity to link 1 poem of your choice as this is no prompt-day. For those who missed the Mr Linky deadline this Tuesday’s poetics or any poetry prompts that you have missed in the past, this is the opportunity to share your poem. Out of courtesy, please link back to dVerse Poets Pub if you are sharing your poem.
In my part of the word, the autumn season is upon us with the maple leaves starting to fade and fall.
Autumn
Shorter and shorter now the twilight clips
The days, as though the sunset gates they crowd,
And Summer from her golden collar slips
And strays through stubble-fields, and moans aloud,
Save when by fits the warmer air deceives,
And, stealing hopeful to some sheltered bower,
She lies on pillows of the yellow leaves,
And tries the old tunes over for an hour.
The wind, whose tender whisper in the May
Set all the young blooms listening through th’ grove,
Sits rustling in the faded boughs to-day
And makes his cold and unsuccessful love.
The rose has taken off her tire of red—
The mullein-stalk its yellow stars have lost,
And the proud meadow-pink hangs down her head
Against earth’s chilly bosom, witched with frost.
The robin, that was busy all the June,
Before the sun had kissed the topmost bough,
Catching our hearts up in his golden tune,
Has given place to the brown cricket now.
The very cock crows lonesomely at morn—
Each flag and fern the shrinking stream divides—
Uneasy cattle low, and lambs forlorn
Creep to their strawy sheds with nettled sides.
Shut up the door: who loves me must not look
Upon the withered world, but haste to bring
His lighted candle, and his story-book,
And live with me the poetry of Spring.
Hello everyone! I hope you are having a good day or night, and taking care of yourself.
Good evening from Norfolk , UK, where it started of rainy and brightened up in the late afternoon. Thank you to Grace for hosting. I hope everyone is staying safe and well..
Cloudy here but the sunshine is coming through. Have a good evening Kim.
Hello Grace, thank you for turning on the lights. I learned last weekend that I lost a friend and former bandmate to Covid-19. She was a gifted performer, wonderful voice, and fluid dancer. We had not seen each other in years since I moved to the Pacific Northwest — but we stayed in touch around holidays. I met her when I was 21 and she 17. I wrote this piece I posted as a sort ballad to celebrate her. RIP Lauria.
Such sad news, Rob. Condolences to you and her family. Stay safe and thanks for sharing your tribute of her.
She left behind a wife and son. He has apparently become a helluva a drummer.
My condolences to you and her family, Rob.
Thanks Sanaa.
Rob, so sorry to hear of your loss of a long-time friend to Covid-19.
I wished I could go back yo pay my respects, but I don’t fly anymore, and can’t drive the 2500 miles. So I wrote this and sent a copy to her wife and son.
❤ ❤
Oh, Rob. I’m so sorry to hear about your friend. And my condolences to her family, as well. My poem ended-up being about my mom, who also died from Covid.
Rob and Merril,
I am sorry to hear of your losses. There is grief heavy and yet to be held by so many. Sending you a hug.
I wrote about the rain! But thank you for that wonderful poem by Cary – a joy to read
Good to see you Laura. Her poems have a cadence in them.
Thank you so much for hosting us, Grace! ❤️ Love the poem by Alice Cary 🙂 Autumn is my favorite season. My heartfelt gratitude to all those who participated on Tuesday. It was a pleasure to guest host dVerse Poetics 🙂
Happy OLN! ❤️
Thank you for being our gracious host. It sure was fun reading the responses from your prompt. I love autumn colors but I just dread the coming winter. In any case, each season has its own charm.
My pleasure! ❤️ And yes, I agree 🙂
Hello Grace and All. What a lovely poem about this time of year. No signs here yet other than cooler evenings, but it’s coming soon. Wishing you and everyone a nice long Labor Day Weekend. Raising a bottle of Ace Perry (Pear) Cider to you all. Cheers!
Cheers to you too! Yes, we will also have a long weekend as Monday is also our Labor day. Autumn here is coming faster than I like. But I love the cooler evenings and its a good time to walk around the neighborhood too.
Hello… it’s bedtime here… I feel the autumn coming, and this week it’s been a bit different … I got a little cold, and given the situation, I went for a test.,, still waiting for the result, it may come tomorrow, but in the meantime, I’m staying even further away from others.
Bjorn, I hope its not serious. Keeping safe is always important; keeping vigilant now more than ever with the approaching colder seasons.
Sorry to hear your news, Björn. I hope your cold is simply a cold–and it’s good you’re not spreading whatever it is. I hope you feel better soon.

Happy Open Link night – Thanks for hosting Grace. I have been in awe of the corn moon the last two nights. See you out in the poetry maze.
I love moon-inspired poems. See you out in the trail.
It’s Spring here in Australia. I posted a poem about Spring recently so I decided to just add a short silly poem today while I get the hang of d’verse routine.
Hello and thanks for joining us. I enjoyed reading your fun poem.
Thanks. I’ll get the hang of this if i keep at it.
Thanks for reading and commenting on my poem.
Thank you for hosting, Grace, and hi everyone. It’s still very summery here, although of course the days are shorter and some leaves are starting to turn. We have thunderstorms in the forecast and a tornado watch right now.
Keep safe Merril. Our nights here are getting cooler but its still summer by day.
Thanks, Grace. We just had a bit of thunder this time. I think the bad stuff stayed south of us.
Grace,
Thanks for hosting. It is a lovely summer afternoon here and I used this pause in my day to write from the prompt Bjorn offered earlier in the week, verbing. It was a good challenge for me.
I so miss touching others and hope this poem about holding hands will remind others of the many times we have held hands with a friend or loved one and how good it feels to do so.
Take care of yourself,
Ali
I look forward to reading them Ali. That verbing exercise was so fun. And I look forward to those happy hand holding times again.
Me too. Until then I will be writing about them
Good evening all — thanks for hosting, Grace. I look forward to checking out the fresh poetry ~ Love&peace, Jason

Grace, thank you for hosting! I love your poem tinged with melancholy and its stunning final line. I tried to comment on your blog but my comment disappeared so it’s either in moderation or Google thinks I’m a robot!
