Hello Everyone and Welcome to Poetics where we open our minds, search our hearts, have some laughs, drink a few drinks, and write poetry.
It is our anniversary this week at dVerse and we are celebrating our 11th year, so today I will be serving lemon cake and pink champagne- Veuve Clicquot of course!
One of my favorite movies when I was much younger was Breakfast at Tiffany’s. I simply adored Audrey Hepburn in her role as Holly Go Lightly.
Based on Truman Capote’s novel, this is the story of a young woman in New York City who meets a young man when he moves into her apartment building. He is with an older woman who is very wealthy, but he wants to be a writer. She is working as an expensive escort and searching for a rich, older man to marry.- Rotten Tomatoes
Now that you have a little background, our Poetics prompt today will be based on famous lines from Breakfast at Tiffany’s and we will be using them for inspiration.
“It may be normal, darling; but I’d rather be natural.”
― Truman Capote, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Three Stories
“Anyone who ever gave you confidence, you owe them a lot.”
― Truman Capote, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Three Stories
“Aprils have never meant much to me, autumns seem that season of beginning, spring.”
― Truman Capote, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Three Stories
“It’s better to look at the sky than live there. Such an empty place; so vague. Just a country where the thunder goes.”
― Truman Capote, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Three Stories
“Home is where you feel at home. I’m still looking.”
― Truman Capote, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Three Stories
“Leave it to me: I’m always top banana in the shock department.”
― Truman Capote, Breakfast at Tiffany’s
“Maybe the older you grow and the less easy it is to put thought into action, maybe that’s why it gets all locked up in your head and becomes a burden.”
― Truman Capote, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Three Stories
“I am always drawn back to places where I have lived, the houses and their neighborhoods.”
― Truman Capote, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Three Stories
“Wrinkles and bones, white hair and diamonds: I can’t wait.”
― Truman Capote, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Three Stories
“I thought of the future, and spoke of the past.”
― Truman Capote, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Three Stories
“Never love a wild thing…If you let yourself love a wild thing, you’ll end up looking at the sky.” ― Truman Capote, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Three Stories

Hello Everyone, and welcome to our anniversary week! Today I’ll be serving a delicious lemon cake and pink champagne to celebrate. Of course all our other pub fare is available as well.

Champagne is the best. A big slice of lemon cake coming right up! Happy anniversary.

Coming right up Sanaa- I hope you enjoy it!
Everyone must be glued to their television, watching the Jan 6th investigation. 🙂
I could not decide what line to use as there are so many good quotes. Thank you for hosting Linda. Looking forward to reading the poems.
As am I!
Hi Linda, Thank you for hosting. I’ll see if I can get to this later in the week. I’m overwhelmed today, and I was just watching the Jan. 6 hearings. . .I just watched the opening clip. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the movie. I mostly remember Audrey Hepburn singing Moon River. 💙
Hi Merril- Yes, I was watching the hearings as well, in between checking in here.No worries Merril! And that’s one of my favorite scenes!
Btw, I’ll take pink lemonade today to celebrate, please. 🙂
Yes, pink lemonade with lots of ice! Enjoy.
I always love your prompts, Linda. As for mine this time, pick a card, any card….
LOL! Love having you here. 🙂
I’m up for the pink champagne– extra large glass please, it’s been a hard 2 months….
Coming right up!
Slurp!!!
Hi all- Dinner duty calls. Will be back in the morning to read. Have a great evening- the key is under the mat- help yourself and lock up when you leave.
Thank you for hosting. Excellent prompts Linda. I found one that took me right to where my dark self loves to toil. Is what I wrote coherent? 🤔 In the most wonderfully chaotic way, I think. 😏
One of my favourite stories and films, thank you for this Linda.
You’re welcome Paul!
Hi Linda,
