Here’s wishing you a happy Monday, dVerse poets, and welcome to the pub, which is now open! It’s Kim from Writing in North Norfolk bringing you the Quadrille, when we take any meaning of one word and transform it into 44 poetic words. Today, I want you to write a poem of exactly 44 words (not counting your title), including the word revolution.
Revolution can mean two distinct things:
a forcible overthrow of a government or social order, in favour of a new system, for which there are so many synonyms;
or it can be an instance of revolving, as in the revolution of the Earth around the sun;
as well as being a very important change in the way that people do things, such as a technological revolution, a revolution in medicine or a rock music revolution.
Something can be revolutionary and you can revolutionise.
Here is a short poem about revolution by Langston Hughes
Dreams
Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.
And here is new (to me) revolution poem by Kenneth Patchen, entitled ‘My Generation Reading the Newspapers‘.
Let’s start a revolution with our quadrilles! Just be sure your 44-word poem contains some form of the word revolution.
Here’s how to Quadrille:
– Write a poem of exactly 44 words, including the word revolution.
– Put your poem on your blog and link back to this post.
– Link it up to our Mr. Linky.
– Visit other blogs. Enjoy some amazing poets. Comment. Come back later this week and write another one, and visit some more. Comment some more. Create as many revolutionary poems as you please. I’ll be reading all week.

Good evening all and welcome to the dVerse Poets Pub bar, where we are serving Che Guevara’s favourite 70cc bottle of Turkish Rakı with roasted white chickpeas. If that doesn’t take your fancy, we have French peasants’ red wine with cheese and baguette, or Bolshevik vodka and borscht. I look forward to reading your revolutionary quadrilles!
Hello and good evening… today is Monday and I can only stomach some mineral water tonight.
Coming up!
Hello Kim and All! Over the weekend that was in the 70s F I would be asking for Magners. It’s snowing today so will you please pour me an extra large mug of hot cocoa with a splash of Baileys?
You have snow! Hot cocoa with Baileys coming up!
Thanks much, Kim. Cheers!
Cheers Lisa!
Thanks for hosting, Kim! Happy Monday to all. Just tea for me, thanks. Was wondering if you had any issues with “blenza” as the prompt didn’t show up for me there. Very strange.
I didn’t have any issues with Blenza this time, but I have done previously. Today my music links didn’t work.
That is strange too. According to blenza, the prompt isn’t even listed. ?? so I was relieved to see it indeed existed here. 🙂
I just had a look and it is on Blenza, but you have to kick down. I put it on on 6 April. I just have to put a closing date and time on it.
Aha! Ok, my mistake.
I’m not sure what happened to my music links – they worked when I first set up the post.
Hi Kim and others. Love the prompt. Turkish Raki with roasted chickpeas sounds good.
I am still catching up with reading posts from previous prompts. My apologies to all for being late in catching up, but I will get there. 🙂
No hurry, Punam. I look forward to reading yours.
Thanks.

Feeling worldly today … I will have the Bolshevik vodka and borscht! A great challenge which took me all the way back to the 80s … a few minutes for the words to spill literally.
Vodka and borscht, a good choice, Helen. I’m glad the prompt transported you.

Thanks for joining us, Dwight!
Hello Kim. I haven’t begun to think about a poem yet, but this one by Robert Frost is now stuck in my head:
A Semi-Revolution
By Robert Frost
I advocate a semi-revolution.
The trouble with a total revolution
(Ask any reputable Rosicrucian)
Is that it brings the same class up on top.
Executives of skillful execution
Will therefore plan to go halfway and stop.
Yes, revolutions are the only salves,
But they’re one thing that should be done by halves.
Published in The Poetry of Robert Frost: The Collected Poems.
I wish I’d included the Robert Frost poem in my prompt! Never mind, we can’t have them all. I look forward to reading yours. Don’t forget, you have all week and we have an Open Link on Thurday and Friday if you think you’re running out of time.
Lovely prompt, Kim! Thanks for hosting.
I’m glad you joined us, Jay.
I enjoyed the write. Round and round, not over and over today for me.
Welcome to the roundabout, Jim!

great prompt Kim, and I have loved reading all the different takes 💞
There has been a good variety.
I enjoyed the quadrille challenge, and the example from Langston Hughes opened my thinking about the word, revolution. Thanks.
Thanks for joining us, I’ll be over to read and comment shortly!

Thank you for the creative prompt! Although I was instructed to write only one poem, I attempted to write three. I don’t know if it is acceptable or not. Here’s my response.
