Greetings, intrepid poets! De Jackson here, aka WhimsyGizmo.
First off, an important dVerse announcement:
TWO chances to join Open Link Live (OLN LIVE) this month:
* Thursday, August 24th from 3 to 4 PM EST and
* Saturday, August 26th, from 10 to 11 AM EST
Simply click on the link that will be provided and join us with video and audio. Read a poem of your choice or just come to listen. The more the merrier!
NOTE: You may still post ONE poem as usual to OLN, even if you do not join us live.
And now back to our regularly scheduled programming…
It’s Quadrille Monday here at dVerse (my favorite!), when we pen poems of exactly 44 words, including one word we here at dVerse provide.
Today, I want you to pine away.

Pine forest in Ecola State Park near Cannon Beach, Oregon.
I am still dreaming of the pine forests of Oregon, after being home again for a month. Won’t you join me in…
Getting lost among the pine trees. Pondering the scalloped intricacies of a pinecone. Biting into the sacred sweetness of a pineapple. Pining away over a lost love. Use pine as a noun, verb, or adjective. Or play around with it and invent your own word.

I also love these pine poems:

And more here:

I found this strangely mesmerizing:
New to the Q? Here’s what to do:
Start pining those poems of precisely 44 words (not counting the title), including some form of the word pine. Link it up by clicking Mr. Linky below. The prompt is open for the whole week, so remember to come back and read (and write!) some more!
Some musical inspiration:
Joan Baez, The River in the Pines
Doug Stone, I’d Be Better Off (In a Pine Box)
Thanks De for hosting our fun Q prompt. Love pine trees and pineapples.
Thanks, Grace. Glad you’re here. Cheers!
Good evening all! I’m currently trying to sort out something with my bank – I think I’ve been scammed – so I’ll be back in the morning to read and comment.
Oh, no! Hoping it all gets figured out easily, Kim!
I was on the phone for ages, until they closed, and they promised to contact me this morning. I’ve never been scammed before and never imagined I would be. It’s so worrying.
Praying it gets resolved soon, Kim!
Thank you De. I still haven’t heard anything , but I’ve been checking my bank account every day. I will give them another call this morning.
I pine for a brew… are there any well-chilled beers available.
You got it, Bjorn! And a frosty mug on the side.
Helloooo, poets! I’m serving up some great pineapple cocktails and mocktails today, and I’ve also grilled some salmon on pine slabs. Who’s ready to poem-party?
has to be pina colada please
You got it! I shall join you!
Pushed for time De even for the quadrille but managed to blackout a pine – thank you for hosting with this evergreen
Thanks, Laura. Glad you’re here!
Maybe for pine it should be a spine poem
Ooooo! I might have to sneak upstairs to the library loft and make that happen, for mine!
A great choice for a prompt, De. I love your choice of music as well. So many ways to take this one. Love the slow-mo pinecones opening up. Did you know if you take a dry open pinecone and put it in a cup of water it will close back up? Works great with the very large ones. Thanks for hosting!
I did NOT know this, and now must try it! Thanks, Dwight!
It is great fun especially with kids.
Hi De! Thanks for hosting….ummm….I’m pining for some of that salmon, please! Fun word for a quadrille….took me back in time to the last camping trip we did about 10 years ago!
You got it, Lill. Happy poeming!
Wonderful prompt, De! Thank you. There are so many ways to go with the word.
Thanks, Merril. Glad you’re here!
You’re welcome!
Great prompt De….I’ll get me thinking cap on 😄
Thanks! Happy poeming!
Thank you, De, for hosting tonight! It’s late evening over here in Germany and I was so tired that I did not know if I would be able to participate, but you got me. 🙂 A great prompt. Off to read some good poems now…

Thank you for a most refreshing challenge! I live amongst pines and cannot imagine leaving them. I will have a frozen Piña Colada this evening! Thank you.
Coming right up, Helen! Happy you’re here!
I just woke up from a nap.🤭 I’ll have a coffee. Do you have any pineapple upside down cake?🙃🍍
Ohhhh. What a fantastic afternoon (which it is, where I am) snack! Sounds amazing!
Oh, I just loved watching the pine cones open! Fun stuff De ☺️💕
Thanks, Christine. Glad you’re here!
Thanks for hosting De, great prompt. Pine put me in mind of my years on the dirt field. Man, I loved it! 🙂✌🏼🫶🏼
