Greetings, you terrific, prolific poets! De Jackson (aka WhimsyGizmo) here. It’s Quadrille Monday again! Remember, the Quadrille is that pithy little creation of our own making: simply a poem of exactly 44 words (not counting the title), including one specific word provided. Today, I would like you to play with the word smash.
Get my meaning?

You could try to make your poem a smash hit, or simply smash some words together and hope for the best (sometimes the very best poems happen that way). Write a noisy sound poem throughout, or give the word some more subtle nuance. Smash (dash, crash, flash, bash, gnash) together some fabulous rhymes, or free verse your way to a smashing conclusion.
Because of course there’s also this fun definition (she says, with a slight British accent):

The word can even be a euphemism for getting intoxicated (aka soused, sozzled, stewed). So let’s get smashed together today, punch-drunk on poems and destined for hyphenated hangovers.

New to the Q? Here’s what to do:
Just smash together some alphabet soup to create a poem of precisely 44 words, including some form of the word smash. Link it up by clicking Mr. Linky below. Then head out into the poetic ether to read some of the most smashing poets around. Remember, the Quadrille is open all week, so don’t forget to come back and read (and write!) some more!
Some musical inspiration…
By the Sea, from Sweeny Todd
(Now wouldn’t that be smashing?)

And here are some throwback tunes for your poeming pleasures, from Smashing Pumpkins and Smashmouth:

Onomatopoeic words are perfect for the quadrille – great word choice, De!
Thanks, Kim! Have a smashing time writing today!
Hello poets! I’m so happy you’re here. I’ve smashed some cherries in your honor, and will be serving them up in cocktails and mocktails aplenty. Also some smashed potatoes, with tons of pepper.
Happy poeming today, and all week long!
I’m tempted with the cherries in a snowball cocktail though out of season!
Yum!
Yum. I love potatoes. Thank you for the prompt.🙏🏼❤️
This is a smashing good prompt, and of course I thought immediately about Smashing Pumpkins… it has always been an inspiration for me. My favorite is “Bullet with Butterfly Wings”
I love them, also, Bjorn. Glad you’ve found some inspiration here! Happy poeming!
Good evening De and DVersers – a very versatile prompt. so many ways to go. ‘smashing’ as adjective for wonderful has gone off trend now though I’m sue I used to use it regularly when younger!
Hi, Laura. Glad you’re here! Cheers!
Laura, for some reason I cannot comment or reply on your blog today. There’s no place to do so, even though I can see others’ comments…and when I click “reply” to a comment, nothing comes up. Some glitch on my end, I’m sure.
I LOVE this line: “glorious, globs of golden yolk” !!
I prefer over-easy, but what a visual you have created.
An awesome prompt, De… that poem formed in record time (for me) I think. Thank you for hosting tonight – off to read now. 🙂
Hi, Miriam! So happy you felt inspired. Heading over to read now. Cheers!
Hello De and All! Great word to write a pithy poem to. Here is another song with the word in it that I truly love:
Love it, Lisa! Thank you! Happy poeming!
You’re welcome, De!
Christine, I’m having the same issue on your blog as I am on Laura’s. Both of your comment sections appear to me as code, rather than a place to comment (even though I can see the comments of others.) So strange. I’ll see if I can figure out later today what glitch is happening on my end.
In the meantime, I loved your Halloween poem. That poor pumpkin!
De, I had the same happening to me for both of them – reloading the page did the trick for me.
Thanks, Miriam. Happy I’m not alone. I’ll try again later. Thank you!
A smashingly good prompt Di. I will see what I can conjure up!
Thanks so much, Dwight. Hope you found some inspiration here!
I did!
Hey, gang. I’ve got to step out for an hour or two, but will get caught up with all your wonderful poems later today. Keep writing! I’ll leave the keys behind the bar. Help yourselves to all the goodies. 🙂
This prompt brings out the crazies as it reminds me of the song:
The Monster Mash… it was a graveyard smash!!
Niiiice! I forgot about that one! Love it!
:>)
Arcadia Marie, your link jumps right back here to this post. Please be sure to post a correct link, so we can read your work!
Fun prompt De, thanks for hosting. 🙂 …got a late start, but got one fun one done… hope you like. ✌🏼🫶🏼
Happy to see you, Ron. Hope all is well. Heading over now.
Ooops double linked. Both work, but the first one was a slip of the trigger finger. 🙁
No problem. I’ll take care of it. 🙂
I wnet with humour for a change, some words just do that for me, thank you De.
My pleasure! Happy to see you here!
Good evening, Poets! Thanks De Jackson for a smashing good prompt! I’ll be back on the poetry trail tomorrow.

Niiiice! Love this, Rog! Happy to see you here!
thanks
Great prompt, led me to many places before I settled on world records being smashed by fearless athletes, ice smashing, and then the chilling fear of the ice dive….. I am looking forward to sitting with glass of wine and lots of reading …..
Happy you’re here! Heading over to read soon!
Thank you, De, for hosting.
My pleasure, Kitty! Cheers!
