And now for today’s prompt…
It’s Quadrille Monday again (my favorite!), when we pen poems of precisely 44 words, including one word we provide.
Today, I’d like you to mull over the word moon.

Moonspill on Lake Tahoe. Photo by me.

Ah, the moon. She waxes. She wanes. She renders werewolves insane. She borrows her light from the sun and controls the tides. She’s tough to capture on camera, and she’s even got a darker side.
Verb-aciously speaking, you could moon over your poem like a schoolboy (or girl), or you might even show us your poem’s backside.
Honeymoon. Moonshine. Moonroof. Moonbeam. Moonflower. Moonwalk. Moonlighting. Moonraker. Moonstruck.
Whatever phase you choose to write about her in, just make sure the literal word moon is somewhere in your 44-word poem.
You might even choose to coin your own moon word, as E. E. Cummings did in one of my favorite poems…

If it’s been many moons since you penned a poem, here are some classic moon poems to get you started:https://poets.org/poems-about-moon
New to the Q? Here’s what to do:
No need to moon about. Simply pen us a poem of exactly 44 words (not counting the title), including some form of the word moon. Post your poem on your own blog, and link up using the Mr. Linky below. Then make your way around the blogosphere to visit some of the most talented poets around. I’m sure they’d be over the moon to hear from you!
Finally, here’s some moonly musical inspiration:
R.E.M.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
And of course, Sinatra:

Amazing that we have not had moon yet. So great that you could fill that gap… I could do with something strong for tonight.
I agree! I couldn’t believe it when I checked the list!
Same here!
Helloooo, poets! Happy writing today! May the moon be with you. 😉
I’m serving up moonpies and lunar libations. Enjoy!
how about Chinese mooncakes?
Perfect.
Good evening poets one and all, and thank you for the lunar prompt, De. Moon cheese, crescent crackers and a non-alcoholic moon walk cocktail, please!
So happy to see you, Kim. Cheers!
Love this challenge Ms. De! I have a hand towel in our powder room with STAY WILD embroidered on it …. a permanent fixture. Nothing too outlandish for me … pinot gris?
Coming right up, Helen. Cheers!
Hello De and All. I started writing to the word going in one direction, which led me in another direction, which took me in another direction. Great word with so much poetic possibility. Would you please pour me a hot cocoa with a shot of Baileys?
That sounds delicious, Lisa. I’ll join you!
Cheers!
Having trouble posting a reply here…..love the word. My mother used to sing me a song….”My sweetheart’s the man in the moon. I’m going to marry him soon….” 🙂 Waxing nostalgic here 🙂
Love it, Lill. Glad it sparked some inspiration.
PS: I’m having trouble commenting today, and staying logged in. Something’s a little wonky.
What a great prompt, De, thank you!
My pleasure, Dora! Cheers!
I was surprised, too, that we’d never used “moon” before! Thank you for the prompt, De. I’m sure I’ve written a thousand poems about the moon (well, more or less 😉), so now I have one more.
For me, it’s definitely around a thousand. 😉 Cheers, Merril! Here’s to one more!
😂
Very cool prompt and just wanted to say that your photo is just lovely with the moonlight painted so vividly on the water!
Thank you so much. She’s a wily one, for sure, when it comes to photos. Not easy to catch her. 😉
hi all at dverse
thanks for the perfect word for tonight’s quadrille
something soothing required please.
rog
Hi, Rog. You got it! Happy you’re here!
Love the E. E. Cummings poem.❤️
Me, too, Melissa. He’s a favorite of mine.
Thanks De. Irresistible. (K)
Yay! So happy!
Good evening, poets! Thanks, De, for this lunar delight. How about a glass of Burgundy for the occasion? 😉
Coming your way, Frank. Cheers!
🙏
Perfect prompt for the new moon!
Thanks, Xan. Happy poeming!
Hi De, thanks for hosting. Truly wonderful prompt. The moon is so enchanting, it stirs night magic for me! I too really like the Quadrille. It may be the only poetic form that really empowers me. It makes me stay compact and potent, and that can prove a powerful combination. 🙂✌🏼🫶🏼
Yes! I agree, Rob. Small forms have always been my favorite, and I love both the freedom and compact restriction this form brings. Hard to believe we are on #189, after all these years!
Good Evening – You lured me out with the word “moon”. There is no moon to be seen here tonight. I guess it has made me moody. Thanks for hosting.
So happy you found some inspiration here, Truedessa.
This prompt makes me want to see Moonstruck again!!! Lovely poems.
A good one, for sure! Cheers!
I’ve been thinking about writing poetry again and revisiting my old work. I love a quadrille so I am back, if a little rusty! I’m looking forward to reading lots of lovely moony poems!
Happy you’re here, freya!
Thank you!
Here’s my poem!
Hey de Jackson et all the d’Verse crew, hope you’re having a great day! 🤞🙏😁 Just posted the link to my contribution over at Mr. Linky there. Hope ye enjoy the read! 😁🤞📖
Hi, Ken! Heading over soon. Happy to see you!
Happy to be here de Jackson! 🙏😁😊
Great choice of prompt De – what poet can forsake the moon 🙂
Not this one, for sure. 😉
What a delight De 🙌
🙂 Yay! Cheers!
De is our host for the dVerse Poets Pub Quadrille this Monday, and she’s looking for poems most mad & moonly.
You got me inspired after quite a while
