..today it is all about going urban with our poetry…
Cities have always fascinated me, I’ve been to Venice, London, Hamburg, Paris, Munich, Sydney, Berlin, Barcelona, Zürich, Lucerne, Berne, Heidelberg…and yes Rome…I fell in love with Rome..
Each city has an atmosphere of her own, some kind of vibrant energy and a specific character. Today we want you to take us on a trip around the world, to the city where you lost your heart, were born, fell in love, spent the most beautiful or most ugly time in your life…no matter if it’s a small or a mega city, if it’s a true or invented story.
It could be a city you have never visited but stands for the state of mind you’re in at the moment. It can be a love poem, fun poem or political rant, it may rhyme or not, you may rap us through your favorite spots or paint your city in pastell colors with a tender brush.. let’s have some urban fun together!
- Write a city poem or a poem inspired by one of my Rome pictures
- Post it on your blog
- Click the Mr. Linky button below, and in the new window that opens up input your name and direct url of the poem.
- Visit others who have taken the challenge.
- Have fun..!

Grew up in a BIG city but I’m not built for them, much as I love the museums and art and cool places to eat and mixes of people and cultures. So mine will probably not be a love poem. But there is always something to say about a city. An excellent prompt, Claudia, and I’m betting yours is about Rome–just a wild guess. ;_)
Be back soon to link something, and read.

haha – how did you know…? smiles

oh its about a little more than Rome, fanning myself over here in the corner…smiles.

I linked to a previous poem about Cairo but I wrote the next ‘installment’ today and left instructions at the top for people who read the post in early August. For those of you that didn’t read the first installment feel free to stop anywhere and comment if you’d like (it will eventually be an epic so it’s getting lengthy 🙂 Great prompt and thanks again for giving us all a place to congregate and exchange ideas!

Thanks for the prompt Claudia – Rome is a lovely city and you’ve done a great job capturing it’s charm in your photographs – just a little offering but glad to be amongst it again 🙂

I’d already written two new pieces today Claudia, thought I was done and then I read your prompt and couldn’t resist delving into my memories of Florence in 2005. So looking forward to my return trip in October. Lasciare il poesia fluire ~ let the poetry flow.

Thanks for a great inspiration. It brought back memories of going to school and living in NYC. I am definitely not a city person but I can respect it’s culture and museums.
It was a wonderful experience.

Hey Claudia and fellow poets,
What a fun prompt!!! I’ve been busy demonstrating here in IL and mothering… I can’t believe I’m missing this too… maybe I’ll be able to sit at my computer later.
Have fun and I really can’t wait to read Thursday’s and Prompt’s poems!

In and out this weekend – I’ll try to read as I can. I have a figure skating “event” this afternoon across the METROPLEX as we call this rambling set of towns that have melded together into a sprawling mess here in North Central Texas. It’s about an hour and 15 minutes away – I know shocking to think that could all be one city to you in the UK and possibly other places. I DID NOT write about DFW here or about that vertical accelerator NYC – no my spiritual home is London. In my heart, I’m always there in good times or even erupting summers. It’s not only the place, it’s hearing the language that thrills me and makes me smile. I’m posting a poem I wrote too late to be read for James Rainsford’s photo prompt of South Wimbledon Tube Station. I love the tube stations. They’re so distinctively English – so absolutely London. See you guys as time allows.

Worked Friday and Saturday, and just catching up on my favorite sites. How interesting to read about all these wonderful places! Coming in a bit late posting on this, but adding my ‘two cents’ on one of my favorite cities.

Oh no! I’m too late AGAIN. Busy life … and maybe it’s to do with Southern Hemisphere and time difference too, though you’d think that should work in my favour. Anyway, if anyone happens to notice this, the link to my city poem is http://passionatecrone.blogspot.com/2011/08/venice.html

Well I didn’t get my post in as I was away at the cottage. I couldn’t think much of a place I been although I have been to many a place. I fault it necessary to write about a photo I saw in the Globe and Mail this weekend.
