Ever notice just how much poetry we are blessed with in the run of a day? That song that near brings you to tears…usually when you’re stopped at a red light in heavy traffic, when all eyes seem to be on you. Or that craft beer commercial that speaks to tradition and legacy, to artistry and myth. Yes…we are sold with words, on a daily basis. So why is it, that we so doubt the power OUR words carry?
Not an OpenLinkNight has gone by where I have not been moved to tears, woken up or even shaken to my very core. This is what YOU do to me. Consistently and without fail. YOU have shaped my own vision, my own dreams. You have touched my heart and changed a life. That means something. I’m quite confident, I’m not the only one. Most importantly, you have ignited my pen when nothing else would. The thought of missing a Tuesday evening with all of you is not a pleasant one.
And now, thanks to the work of our amazing “bosses” we will bring to you your own dVerse bookshelf. Brian and Claudia have opened up a linky where any who has poetry to pander can link their collections. I so look forward to diving into those collections that I might have missed, and seeing the shelf grow on a regular basis as more of you take the leap to bring your words to the world. Never doubt the talent, or the power that comes with having a support system in place like the pub. Let’s do our best to support each other, to spread the word on our bookshelf, and help give a little back to those who give so much with every poem they bleed.
We know, as Shelley states, that…”Poets are the unacknowledged legislators of the world,” but that doesn’t mean we can’t show them the love.
Power to the poets!
Here’s how we do this:
- Post a poem to your blog or site.
- Copy the exact address of your post and click on trusty Mr.Linky
- Paste your post address where indicated, enter you name, click submit…and you’re in! Too easy!
- Return to Mr.Linky for direct links to all the poets who will be joining us this evening. Visit, engage, comment and enjoy. Take the leap and shout it out on the social networks of your choosing when you find that piece that really moves you.
- We are about community, and that means everyone working together to ensure all are welcomed and read. Do you part…you never know what next great poet your encouraging could make all the difference for!
Happy Tuesday, y’all!
Happy Tuesday!
Raise the roof Poets…this thing’s ON! Happy OpenLinkNight and welcome to the pub!
I am so excited to be back in the pub for OpenLinkNight. It’s been a while! Happy Tuesday and seasons greetings to all.
Awesome to have you! 🙂 Drinks on me to celebrate your return!
An OLN on a cold winter evening. I have some tea and am ready for poetry 🙂 I hope everyone has a wonderful time.
there may be broken hearts and bleeding pens…but it’s always wonderful! I’ll get the kettle on to keep you topped up!
Woohoo!
double time! 😉
yep..let’s do our best to support each other…flaming intro tash…love that spirit of encouragement we have in the pub… happy OLN everyone and see ya out on the trail..
Thank YOU for letting me play 😉 This is one addiction I am quite content with being in denial on
Nice intro Tash! Thanks for the info on the ‘bookshelf”. I’ll be around tonight to read all your great words… right now I’m supposed to be selling shit. Ya know, Christmas and all.
I know all too well the unpoetic weight that comes with selling shit…ha! Get back to work! We’ll keep your spot warm
The cat is here to cause fear or maybe cheer but can’t drink beer so he will just peer and shake his little rhyming rear!
Honk! Awesome to see you Rhymetime…putting all those dragons in my mind!
I salute you, Tash! Hell no…I hug you…for those warm and encouraging words. Bless!
PubLove! PubLove! Virtual group hug! Awesome to see you Jackie!
What a lovely post, and linking to poetry books is a great idea!
Thanks as always for this forum. Here’s my Urbane Limerick.
Isn’t that awesome! Most of my holiday shopping will be done from that bookshelf!
Posted from my other poetry blog tonight – so it’s a haibun…
Always glad to link up again with such a great group of artists. Looking forward to the reads today/tomorrow and inviting all who are interested to FormForAll on Thursday when we’re writing Quaterns. I’ve linked a variation on one today – misses because it’s in iambic pentameter not tetrameter..sigh. I’ll have a four foot one up on the day hopefully! The pub is open every day and aren’t we glad to see our friend Tash behind the bar today doing the honors!
Thanks for the hint for Thursday too Gay…always easier to be prepared when I know what’s coming up…did y’all catch this one? HINT! HINT!
Hi Tashtoo.
Thanx for runnin’ the bar. Wow, you waxed sentimental — I never feel the tears, but I do very much love the new ways of looking at things. I live for freshly (and clearly) stretch metaphors and language.
I just found out how to get early on the list. You open the site and try to time the refresh for exactly 3 pm. Is this set to publish automatically by pre-set timer. There are lots of folks dying to get up early. It was fun to try. I’d love to hear everyone’s favorite site visiting routine. I always go BACKWARDS from my name — so that the greedy first folks (like me today!) don’t get a disproportionate number of visits.
Oh…I always get the tears…happy, sad, love, hate…everything makes me cry! lol
touching words, tash! thank you…
happy open link night, everyone!
I just said over in the twitterverse you poets turn me to mush! lol Here’s to your words!
oh i know it… whenever it’s time for the prompts, i make sure i have tissues…
My comment didn’t seem to “take.” So I’m trying again. Apologies, if this ends up being a duplicate:
What a lovely post, and linking to poetry books is a great idea!
Thanks as always for this forum. Here’s my Urbane Limerick.
I’ll take it twice 😉
Thanks Tash
and thanks to you Bren! IOU some visits!
Happy Tuesday Poet Friends!!!
Welcome back Jody! Happy OpenLinkNight
My poem for this evening’s event was inspired by ‘To Althea from Prison’ by Richard Lovelace. Here’s the link: http://bit.ly/GBdjLk
Kind regards to all at dVerse Poets.
always awesome to read you James 🙂
Enjoying reading poetry with you all tonight!
Welcome back to the pub Robbie…we enjoy reading you too
Happy Open Link to all. I am not depressed, however, my poem might indicate otherwise. You must always follow the muse.
Pamela
wow… what an interesting idea… I look forward to having more time one of these days to read some of those collections… it is hard even to keep up here on open link night! Thanks again, for giving us a place (and now places) to share and enjoy the gifts of each other’s offerings.
Not written much for ages, so it’s a pleasure to be back in the pub. Just a short offering from me tonight, which might go some way to explaining.
Always awesome to see you Tony! 🙂
Hi Tash and d’Crewe!
Here’s to another week of OLN! I’ve missed an entire week of posts and reading and I feel its loss. Love the author collection aspect, can’t wait to try it out. Way to go, d’Team!
Rai

Wonderful to see a new face! 🙂 Welcome to the pub!
Please pardon my silliness this week.
FYI- Hubby’s doc appt went fine… medicine’s working. He’ll have to get blood work in 6 mos.
If there’s a time to bring silly it’s when I’m behind the bar! lol Awesome news on for hubby too 🙂 I think you’ve earned the silly!
woohoo that is great news laurie!!!!! glad to hear the meds are helping…
so glad to have a submission, have to head to bed, later here our last week and a half in paris 😉 goodnight all, will check some poems tomorrow! best wishes 😉
so fine to be in such a fine pub, fire on the hearth and winter howling outside. Some great poetry to pass the night. Thanking all for their shared words.
Love and light to all, sorry I haven’t been around much, been a haul of a year, peace to all xxo
Certainly a stimulating environment.
Thanks Natasha for being our hostess for the evening! I am finding working two jobs now puts a damper on my schedule some weeks, & as you said, not fair to post if there’s no time to read and comment. Missed last week, so I’m glad the evening’s mine and I could be here tonight. Looking forward to reading and being “inspired!”
Awesome always to have you Ginny…I can imagine two jobs would certainly put a damper on poetry time. Honored you chose to spend yours with us!
Scuse me, He says, as he stumbles in. Late again. Howdy folks!
But always fashionable so, Charles…that’s the important thing 😉
I wanted to play, especially being Tashtoo’s night, so I threw a piece of sh@t together that I am not very happy with. So it may not stay up long. But any time tasha is tending bar, I like to show up, regardless if I’m in my pressed best or jeans and t-shirt. And my poem is fiction!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL. Hope to read some great poems tonight! And thatk you tasha dear for hosting. I should have wrote a song instead, but wrote insane instead. Go figure…..
Henry…I LOVE insane! lol On my way…before you change your mind!
Nice invite, Tash. I’m arriving late, but glad to be here.

No worries, Poet! We’re going all night long…and all day tomorrow…you’re far from late 🙂
Something very short and silly–think I’m suffering from holiday brain already–just couldn’t pull those words together…
Lot’s more day like that ahead! (dreading) Awesome you made it 🙂

good morning…just crawling out of bed..need a cup of coffee and will be out on the trail in a bit..
Ugh…there’s so much goin’ on and me head is full of scrambles but, here’s a beautiful quote from Basho about poetry:
“Go to the pine if you want to learn about the pine, or to
the bamboo if you want to learn about the bamboo. And
in doing so, you must leave your subjective
preoccupation with yourself… However well phrased
your poetry may be, if your feeling is not natural – if the
object and yourself are separate – then your poetry is not
true poetry but your subjective counterfeit.”
~Basho

It has been a long time but I am glad to be back at the pub. I am having no luck finding my poetic voice for a while now. I posted an old poem I wrote. I’m hoping to inspire some new work soon.
Old or new, we’re happy to see and read you 🙂
I posted my Missing You poem about my Grandmother–or about me. I am not sure. How do you ever read all of these? And yet, thank you for inspiring such fine material and such fine company here at the pub.
Another great OLN. Thanks for hosting Tash.
Fred…you rocked this week so very hard! LOVED it 🙂
First time here. Looking forward to catching up with as many people as possible.
