The way darkness now permeates every pore of us up here in the far north changes us. I can feel how my writing turns darker, and my muse is now a little bit more morose. The leaves are falling and gradually the trees are shredding the shrouds of summer. The loss of a poet from our lines last week add to my melancholy. So please come into the warmth of the pub. We are here to cheer up each other. If not by our poems so by the comments that warms as well as the best birch firewood we can offer. The colors of the season are also warm and the beauty of a nature going to rest is tangeable in the poetry I expect to read tonight. And from the southern hemisphere I expect to see some beautiful spring poetry. And if your poem has a story to tell, or make a statement – controversial or not – I look forward to that too.
Tonight make sure to visit as many poems as you possibly can. This is the night when that special poem that change your day, week or life might be waiting for you. This is the night when encouraging comments will make you *smile*, and go to bed a little bit happier.
The weeks go quickly and this is the forth time I’m hosting the pub. For new and old guests to the pub

If truth be said, I like the winters more than the summers… may be the darkness within me flutters during the long nights and short days.
Very poetic post… I look forward to reading some nice poetry tonight. 🙂
Björn Rudberg (brudberg) said:

Hello Björn, nice to see you at the bar! Winters I can find quite harsh but autumn is a beautiful season. I love the colors and the crisp air.
Björn Rudberg (brudberg) said:
I do love the colors and crisp air.. but already the darkness is becoming overwhelming for my mind….
kelly said:
Yes, the winter can be dark, but also comforting… I struggle to find the balance myself.
Here’s hoping we all find a little light! Happy Open Link Night everyone…

Happy Tuesday back.. we all know it’s dark.. and with music and candle we get through…

Looks like I missed all the action. Hi Bjorn! Will be making rounds a bit later-wrapping up the responsibilities of my Full Time Job…Homeschooling the child who knows everything. A challenging endeavor, I tell you. Be back later and , please make mine VERY strong…it’s been a rough few weeks. 😉 Still love Fall and Winter…Yay- for OLN!
Björn Rudberg (brudberg) said:
Oh here we can get it strong, warm and comforting.. Love what you said about homeschooling a kid who knows everything … think there is some level of irony in that one…
shanyns said:
Our days are shorter now too and I mourn the loss of the sunshine and warmth. The spider webs have not flown so we should still get a nice stretch of Indian summer (would that be Skraeling summer? 😉 ) but like you I am feeling a bit more dark. Brought an oldie out of the darkness for today. As always great to have you behind the bar my friend!
Björn Rudberg (brudberg) said:
Ah.. Indian summer is called Brittsommar (from the names-day of Bridget of Sweden – our only saint)… but it’s the same thing…
shanyns said:
I like that! She was pretty awesomr!
Madeleine Begun Kane said:
Mr. Linky was briefly unseen,
Sadly AWOL from each poet’s screen.
He’s returned now — all’s well,
Cuz no more do we dwell
In a Linky-less world. Time to preen!
Björn Rudberg (brudberg) said:
Indeed.. and my sincere apologies.. what is a bar without some drama? 🙂
Madeleine Begun Kane said:
No need to apologize. For me it was fun limerick fodder. 🙂
Glenn Buttkus said:
Swedish meatballs 4 all now that our favorite Swede is behind the bar; it is interesting how many of us cried foul with seconds when Mr. Linky was a half beat late at the Pub. It is great to see you tending spirits and pouring poetics, brother.
Björn Rudberg (brudberg) said:
Ha… I bet you are all hungry.. yes… somehow an older version of the draft snucked in… so sorry
claudia said:
i LOVE swedisch meatballs….ok…i know only the IKEA version…oy… but…
Björn Rudberg (brudberg) said:
Ah.. but if you do them home-made… They are 100 times better… I can make decent meat-balls…
claudia said:
just invite me over… smiles

It is a strange and beautiful season, the putting to bed of things in the garden, the short days making us want to put ourselves to bed early. Like the tiredness of the year is also in us. The colours entertain, but then they fall and we know the long winter is upon us. I try to understand that it is needed in me too, the dark, the resting, the waiting for what is coming, but some days I am sad and I just want to stay tucked in with some poems and a hot tea. Sometimes it feels like Spring isn’t coming.
Björn Rudberg (brudberg) said:
Exactly that feeling… and we still have those days where we need to go up and work.. all energy lacking… but with friends we can keep going.. Great to have you here
Lesley-Anne Evans said:
Please forgive me but I have linked a poem previously written. Do you want only NEW poems today?
Björn Rudberg (brudberg) said:
Ah.. not at all… all poems are welcome as usual.
Lesley-Anne Evans said:
OK, thanks. I just wasn’t certain. I’ll leave it as it is then. Thank you. 🙂
claudia said:
tucked in with some poems and a hot tea sounds like a beautiful thing you know…smiles
Lesley-Anne Evans said:
Yes… but sometimes it feels like hiding… and maybe that’s OK too. 🙂
claudia said:
i think it’s def. ok too….

Glad to see you behind the bar, Bjorn. I am looking forward to a night of warmth, visited and being visited by poetic friends. A wonderful way to spend a crisp rainy fall day (here). Days are getting shorter, so glad there are candles to light our way.

Hi Björn – Thanks for tending bar this autumn day – it’s warm but rainy in Big D today. Trees still green, and grass trying to look like grass again after the summer burn. We long for a chill and some color but we’re out of the 90s so all is good. Linked the first poem I wrote for the Beat article to run on Thursday. Not sure it qualifies which puzzles me – it’s meant to be beautiful, frightening, and surreal. I’d like to know if it succeeds. Thanks y’all (beachanny)
claudia said:
it is all this gay – and i loved it…
Björn Rudberg (brudberg) said:
Ah .. I love when there is a little hint thrown out here… great to see you Gay.
Glenn Buttkus said:
I love Beat poems, cutting my teeth on Kerouac & Ginsberg, almost as much as I love homemade Swedish meatballs. This Time4 that big Bjorn has tended bar, even after only pursuing his poetic license for a little more than a year; good on you, brother Bjorn! Gay, I liked your poem because you found a different, possibly new voice for us to hear, to experience; thanks.
Ginny Brannan said:
Hi Björn, just getting home from work. We not only lost one of our dear poet friends last week, but also lost a very dear family member over the weekend. Doing what we writers do best and writing my way through it, as you’ll see in my offering this week. That birch fire sounds absolutely lovely right about now, think I’ll head in and read for awhile. See you inside!
claudia said:
i saw it on FB Ginny…sorry for your loss… hugs and strength for you… and good to see you in the pub..
Björn Rudberg (brudberg) said:
Oh Ginny I’m so sorry.. this together with the mood.. sit down by the fireplace and I’ll get something for you while you read.
Ginny Brannan said:
Thanks to you both. Just being here is sweet distraction and lifts my spirits 🙂
brian miller said:
ginny, sorry to hear…

Björn Rudberg (brudberg) said:

Susan said:
I’ll be back to finish reading. The poems today seem especially moving, so they linger with me and I have to take them like steps, a few at a time.

Just stopped in to say hi to all you great folk here at the bar. I have nothing to offer this week again. Life has me filled with commitments and the flu has decided to hang with me for over a week now, ugh. Hopefully next week will be better. Hope you all have fun.
Pamela
brian miller said:
ugh. i hope you feel better pamela…teaching def puts you in the petri dish of every sickness…
Pamela said:
Yes, Brian. Private classes at my home never had this mishap, usually when my kids here are sick they stay home. Thanks much, Brian.
Glenn Buttkus said:
So Claudia & Bjorn are both sleepy-bye ( but in separate countries, of course ), and Brian is watching the bar for a little longer; sort of cool how many poems still keep coming in at the “dVerse Night Drop” to the right of the Pub front door, and it is def cool that dVerse is an international group; all the better to run with!
brian miller said:
oh yeah, check back, there will be more surely…
all through tomorrow…
Maggie Grace said:
So nice to see you back as host, Bjorn. All day I wondered what to write about since we had no specific prompt. Things are status quo today and usually need emotion to write. I chose to write about feeling okay. Not a typical day when I can say it’s been a good day. Thank you for inspiring me to write…wanting to write because you are the host.
brian miller said:
glad you wrote maggie…smiles. and that you had a good day.

I’m a little late as well, but glad to catch up with everyone! I’ve decided to run against the grain and make one last stab at holding on to a summer dream, a summer love, tucked away in the warmth of a Rocky Mountain Summer. It’s trying to snow here a bit, so I kind of need this last gasp. Hope you enjoy, and grant me a bit of forgiveness…
claudia said:
smiles… summer love sounds good… and wow… even snow in the forecast.. we had in the mountains as well a bit already..

Oh BR a Mr. Linky stuff-up – tis ok all forgiven this neck of the woods 🙂 Thanks for hosting and your thoughts about how the seasons change us as writers. Hopefully (though I am feeling a tad ‘meh’ at the moment – daughter issues) I shall put some Spring in my step for you and the readers. Look forward to reading (as many as I can) Tally-Ho writers!! 🙂
