colors, colors of spring, Grace (aka Heaven), is it spring yet?, poems inspired by paintings, poetics, Sunita Khedekar
Hi everyone ! Is it spring already? I am imagining bright colors bursting forth from the garden and birds serenading outside my window. While spring is still weeks from where I am, I thought it would be cool to feature an artist whose canvas is filled with lush spring hues.
Today we will writing based on the lovely artwork by Sunita Khedekar. She is a Surrey, UK based artist and paints on a wide range of subjects including contemporary landscapes & abstract art. Here’s a backgrounder of Sunita:
Biography: My favourite medium is acrylic on canvas. My paintings feature cheerful colours and unique texture quality.
Experience:
In India
After my degree course I started working for an advertising agency, Sowbhagya, as a visualiser / illustrator for 2 years. I then got the privilege to work with Mr.Viru Hiremath, Art director of Trikaya-Grey, Mumbai, India for the next 2 years.
While working in the agency I worked on several prestigious ad campaigns and challenging projects. This professional experience gave me confidence to start my own design studio.
Fairyland
In 1995 I started my own design studio, mainly concentrating on stain-glass paintings, murals and oil / acrylic paintings.
Working with interior designers and architects I got opportunity to work for high profile projects such as the Mayor’s Bungalow, several corporate offices and hotels.
Moonlight
In U.K.
In late 1999 I relocated to the UK. Since then I have concentrated on acrylic paintings. Inspiration for these paintings has been the beautiful English landscapes, the symmetrical architectural style and the seasonal change of hues all around me. But nostalgia about the past has made me continue with traditional Indian themes as well.
Lady with the birds
Since 2002, I have been associated with Wimbledon Art Studio, London. I have showcased all my work at the various art shows organised there. The response has always been very encouraging. My painting also got selected for the publicity material created by the Studio for the Art Review magazine.
I am currently working on Indian mythological theme using acrylic on canvas. Keep watching my gallery for latest additions.
Thank you Sunita for generously allowing us to use your images for our muse.
You can find more about the artist: Facebook: Sunita Khedekar Paintings and Blog: Sunita Khedekar.
Here are some ideas for our writing today: use of colors & seasonal change of hues (please check this link for 168 definitions of unusual color terms); use of symmetry & incorporating native themes or cultural myths into our words.
If you’re here for the first time, here’s how it works:
- Write a poem or prose poem, inspired by artwork pieces of Sunita Khedekar. You are not limited to the images here, as I have gotten her permission that you can choose from any of her work.
- Post it on your blog, and if you are using Sunita’s picture, link back to Sunita’s site and give her credit for the image.
- Click on the Mr. Linky button, insert your name and direct URL to your poem (not your blog).
- If you use social media, use the tag #dversepoets or @dversepoets so we can find you and help with promotion.
- Visit others that have taken the challenge as well.
Happy colorful Tuesday! Grace ~

Hi Grace – spring is definitely here.
I wasn’t too sure whether using her pics was a must – I took your hint and worked on my piece and used my own photography. I am little nervous that mine is the first on the list today. 🙂

My impression of the new format for dVerse–so far I’ve had time to read everyone and it seems to me that the poetry is better than ever. Maybe that’s because of the time to read better but it also seems that those who participate are putting more effort into what they are posting. Just saying!
Grace said:
The number of links are fewer than OLN so I actually have time to read all the links ~ But I am looking forward to our OLN as I am missing some writers too ~ Good to see you Victoria ~
Am turning in already as its been an exciting day for me at the office ~ Looking forward to the overnight and see you guys tomorrow ~
brian miller said:
i am all for the smaller group…i would rather have those that want to be here…that we can develop poetic relationships with…with a smaller group, its easier to manage to do that..with more in depth comments
and you can easily see who is interacting and who is not…
Glenn Buttkus said:
Yeah, I agree, the new format is cool; don’t quite know how Mr. Linky operates. I can get in sometimes in 15 seconds, and usually there is already 8-10 folks ahead of me; some kind of time delay or something, but today I was already linked in before the doors opened. Is that an option for the host? Many of us do get ready early. Thanks for fixing/adjusting me down to one link.
brian miller said:
that was me g…i was home from school and saw you up early…and as soon as it went live i tagged you in…
biggerthanalasagna said:

Love the vibrant colors used in Sunita’s work and I was immediately drawn to the painting “Lady With the Birds.” I’ve had peacocks in and out of my life for years…had to go with that one…and the story unfolded. Thank you, Grace…enjoyed this assignment immensely. And to Sunita Khedekar…I appreciate you sharing your exquisite art with us for inspiration.
brian miller said:
your piece was very cool…i have only seen peacocks in captivity…and think it would be neat to meet a woman as you have described….
Bodhirose said:
Many thanks, Brian. It would be neat…

brian miller said:

Imelda said:
I’m trying to. I had some idea last night and was so sure about how to put things together, but now, I am fumbling. And this is typical of me. 🙂 I hope to be able to beat the deadline though.
Grace said:
Yes it does ~ Looking forward to your share Imelda ~
Imelda said:
I hope I can put my ideas from last night together. I thought I had the time to write and think today and then suddenly, time seemed to have disappeared. I have not given up yet though. 🙂
