Hello everyone. Welcome to OpenLinkNight. I have been enjoying a week’s holiday on the festive season of ‘Diwali’ or ‘Deepawali’, which is celebrated almost all over India, in the nearly same fashion and enthusiasm with lots of fireworks, sweets and reconnecting with family. Fireworks have been an integral part of our celebration and every year we wait for new variants to hit the local markets. This year was special too. I am sharing one of the sky lanterns we launched from the rooftop. I have seen these things flying for a very long time, but this year, tried for the first time. It is even now that I am writing this post, I can hear the sounds or the gorgeous burst of crackers up above.
The other aspect of my holidays I enjoyed was participating in twitter prompts. I have never been a great activist on twitter but it was nice to see the micro prompts and the wonderful participation out there, lots of talented writers focusing on philosophy, romance, sensuality and what not. It was wonderful.
Lots of love and sweets for all of you here; I am looking forward to what you share on OLN.

Hi Abhra! Hope this Diwali celebration is wonderful for you and your family. Your daughter must be so fascinated by the lights. Thank you for hosting and thank you for the lantern pics. They are so cool. Such an intriguing thing to me.

Hey Abhra – hope you have a wonderful Diwali celebration, and thanks for tending bar tonight!
Hi Bryan – I had a great time yes, holiday week almost over now though.
I am off to check out computers. Mine has been behaving badly or worse, not doing anything. I hope you all have had a wonderful week and I am looking forward to doing some reading later on when the dust settles around here. Diwali lanters – what a lovely kigo for a haiku that is. I may submit another haiku for OLN. Oops, forgot, only one allowed! Oh well. Next time!
Good luck with finding a new computer, Toni! Hope that your computer issues will come to an end.
A friend of mine once did a blog, One Damn Thing After Another….I’m starting to relate! No luck tonight but it is behaving right now but then, I think I am holding my mouth just right.
Ha ha, may be on our next haiku prompt – glad you like the lanterns. Hope you sort out your computer issues soon.
They just get worse. bah. But I love the start of a haiku working around in my head – Diwali lanterns….
Sounds like you’re having a blast! 🙂
Thank you – I had a wonderful time indeed, yes.
Question: If today’s topic a free for all? Can we post anything? by anything I mean poetry that I have posted?
Yes, of course.
Awesome. Then I shall posted a link to you guys and so you can read my poem. 🙂
Happy Diwali, Abhra, sounds like you had a nice celebration! I was at a party once where we sent those lanterns up into the sky…really beautiful to watch them fly high. And thank you for being our host today. Will be linking my poem up any minute now.

What a beautiful celebration, Abhra. It’s wonderful how so many cultures note the coming of light in the midst of darkness. Thank you for hosting today. I will be back to read after grabbing a bit of lunch!
Thanks Victoria – it is very late for me, I will be back tomorrow morning my time to check…. 🙂
Good afternoon and evening everyone. It’s been a gray week, and I’m looking forward to sharing and reading
Oh, it has been a gray week here too…..and it continues. Perhaps this kind of weather is perfect for reading poetry though. Smiles.
Oh yes, and writing like mad as well
Thank you..
Diwali has been exploding around here on Wednesday night and am off to a Diwali party on Saturday. Prefer the candles to the bangs! Not sure whether my link has worked properly this time. But have posted the weather poem as I missed the link for that one as Victoria suggested. Thanks to all for your inspiring posts and poems.
Any poem is welcome and this is a good time to link up if you missed the previous prompts ~ Thanks for linking in ~

Nice to meet you Matthew ~
I will turning in for the night and will check back tomorrow ~
Coming in early before leaving for work…
I didn’t quite made it through, but I will get back to it later…
Diwali is such a wonderful celebration – am sorry I missed the start of the pub opening, as I was away at a committee meeting. But I’ve posted my own link now and am off to read some poems before the family wakes up.
Hi….no problem, hope you will get time during the weekend…
Oh Abrah, you had me in the palm of your hand until you wrote about launching a sky lantern. Here’s a link about sky lanterns being lethal to wildlife and also farm animals: http://www.rspca.org.uk/adviceandwelfare/litter/chineselanterns
Happy diwali
I was not aware of it – thank you for sharing. I should have known earlier.
Thanks Abhra, for your understanding. Please spread the word.
I just finished making rounds – surprisingly very low turnarounds this time – less than half of the visits I made. Will come back and check later tomorrow afternoon my time.
