Hello, poets, friends from all over the world. It’s time for a new year, new poems. A new year feels like an empty notebook, and we all know that it’s good to start easy. I think we have all found how fun the Quadrille is, how challenging and rewarding the 44 words can be.
Let us start with a poem:
There was a little girl
by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
There was a little girl,
Who had a little curl,
Right in the middle of her forehead.
When she was good,
She was very good indeed,
But when she was bad she was horrid.
I leave the rest of the poem for you to fume about…
But the word is of course curl. As you might have seen we love words that can be used as noun and verbs. You might want to use it as an adjective (curly), or even you might want to talk about curling.
If you are new to Quadrille the rules are easy. Write a poem of exactly 44 words including the word curl. Link up the poem by clicking Mr Linky. Then read and get inspired on the other writings. The prompt is open for a week so remember to come back and check it out a few times.
And last of all: A happy new year.

In Canada, we have curling as a sport. I don’t appreciate it much but people can get quite passionate about it. Love the poem and photo of the girl too Bjorn~
Björn Rudberg (brudberg) said:
I just found it and since it referenced the same poem I could not avoid it… Curling exists here as well.. but more as a few quite successful teams that are forgotten between olympics
lillian said:
Happy 2017 everyone!!! Love this word and I must say, thanks for the memories, Bjorn. My mother used to recite this poem to me…..when I was horrid! 😦 And then I used to say it to her when I was very very good! 🙂
Wonderful to start a new year with a blank page……so happy to be back at the pub.
I’ll take a mimosa, please.
Björn Rudberg (brudberg) said:
Mimosa coming up… glad I could find a poem to bring memories.. it was a fun one.

Hello all, good to be back. May the new year bring you good fortune, and blessings. My offering is up. I feel funny about it. Curling I thought to represent by it’s tools alone, which led me back to her lonely cottage that she kept quite clean, despite many other failings. I had thought to write of the telephone cord’s curly wire to the handset, but who has those anymore? Lol.

Those where the days..now its all small and flat. Thanks for joining us ~
May this year be filled with blessings for you as well ~
lillian said:
ooooh, I remember we had a wall phone in our family room and the cord was always curled! I used to hold the cord and just watch the mouthpiece section of the phone spin round in circles to get it untwisted. Anyone remember wall phones????

A great start to the new year, thank you Bjorn. I was a curly-haired little girl and often had that verse quoted to me! I used to think it was very unfair – I WASN’T horrid! Was tempted to explore that theme, and perhaps I might before the week is out, but the thought of children plus some recent happenstance led me elsewhere just now.
Grace said:
The prompt is open all week Rosemary ~ Thanks for popping in and wishing you Happy New Year as well ~

Happy New Year All…You folks are on it. I’m still very much in Holiday mode and so not at all switched on as yet. I’m enjoying as much downtime as possible before my next project begins. It’s a busy one. I will try and write for the early year entries but may not get round to commenting much. I’ll be back in full swing next week. Now where did I put that dram 😉
