Greetings, intrepid poets! De Jackson here, aka WhimsyGizmo. It’s my favorite prompt day, Quadrille Monday, when we write a poem of exactly 44 words, including a provided word.
Today, I want you to poem us up a perfect STORM.
Make it a lightning-fast verb, or a thunderous adjective. Hail down a noun. Whatever form your storm takes, your poem needs to contain some semblance of the word storm (storming, stormy, stormed, etc.), and be exactly 44 words long, not including the title. Here’s some more inspiration:
New to the Q? Here’s what to do:
Just write a poem of precisely 44 words, including the word storm. Link it up by clicking Mr. Linky. Then follow the poetic flashes around the blogisphere, as you visit some of the most talented poets around. The prompt is open for the whole week, so remember to come back and read (and write!) some more!
Have fun stormin’ the castle…
Greetings, my poetical friends! I’m so glad you’ve stormed in. Write us something fabulous, and I’ll be over soon. Who doesn’t love a good summer storm?
I’m pouring drinks. What’s your poison?
apple martini, please
You got it. Cherries on top, of course.
I had this huge (well, tiny) argument with my husband the other night. He tried to give me the cherry off his milkshake, which he always does. But I was like, “I can’t eat that anymore; it’s sugar.” He was all, “No, it’s fruit.” The convo went back and forth, and back and forth; I never could convince him that cherries that come out of a jar are pretty much no longer fruit. 🙂
Sadly, so very true.
Um. I’m such a bore. Ice tea. Wish it was of the Long Island nature. Of course, if it’s virtual, it shouldn’t hurt my transplant, huh?
I’m at a family dinner but will join later
Cheers, B. Enjoy!
Storm and rain here, mixed with sunny days ~ Thanks for hosting an amazing word De !!! Happy Monday !!!!
Happy Monday, Grace. I wish we would get some rain. It is 104 here today, in Southern Nevada. I am weary of the heat already.
It will not STOP raining here! Want to come over? I’ve got a kiddie pool and two lounge chairs. One pink, one blue. 🙂
Yes, please! And you know which chair I want. 😉
Jes.
Great prompt. I had to delete my first link…used the URL to my admin site. Oy vey.
We are enjoying lovely 80 degree weather and the hubs just called me to come help in the garden, so I will be back a bit later. Thank you, De.
How beautiful, Victoria. I am envious. Too hot here. Your piece was just so lovely.
Thank you. I’m off to read now after a few hours in that lovely weather/garden.
Very apposite as we’ve been in the middle of a storm for almost the entire day here in what , at this time of the year, is usually sunny Devon!! I’ll settle back and enjoy my whisky
So glad you’re here! Cheers!
Oh good heavens, I just read that quote as being spoken/written by Willa Catheter. 🙂 Boy would that be an unfortunate name.
LOL! Yep, sure would.
“They call it stormy Monday…” With that in mind barkeep, I believe I’ll have a hurricane, if you please? Oh, and thanks for posting a little Goldman to brighten up our dark and stormy day 😉
YES. The perfect, perfect drink. Cheers!
“Rise above yourself.” That is awesome. As is The Princess Bride. Mad love for that movie, and my girl D[r]e[w] (Cameron D and Destiny). Ooh, that makes me think of Charlie’s Angels, which we should totally be, don’t you think?
Love this. 🙂
Thanks for hosting, De! I’ve added one about a walk on the beach.
Hi, Frank. So glad you’re here!
Hi, everyone! Hope your weekend was fun, and this week is off to a great start!
Love seeing you here, ghost! 🙂
Ah, I believe I’ll have a Typhoon. Don’t have a clue what’s in it, but it leaves an awful mess when it’s all over! Cheers, y’all!
Great prompt, by the way.
Thanks, Charley. I shall pour us a double, and deal with the mess later. 😉
Oh, this is a fun one, De! Maybe I can join in later.
Look forward to it, Merril! 🙂 Glad you’re here.
I’ll have a storm in a teacup, please, and some lightning in a jar. I’m afraid my first link brings you back to this page, in an endless loop of existential meaninglessness. My second link actually takes you to my poem.
I’ll remove the erroneous link, Sarah. Thank you.
PS: “storm in a teacup” would make a fantastic poem title.
Yes, it would.
And so does my third one.
Hi everyone! It’s raining here and I’ve just got back from choir practice, which went amazingly well. Now I’m ready to write and read a storm of poems!
Hi, Kim! So glad you’re here. Thanks for bringing your gorgeous voice back to us.
Thanks for such a versatile prompt, De. I’m a bit tired after a busy and scary weekend, a hospital appointment this morning and choir practice, so I might get off to bed in a short while and return in the morning to see what other gems have been posted! Plus I’m hosting Poetics tomorrow 🙂
Can’t wait, Kim! 🙂
Muggy here, almost time for bed. A Tom Collins would make a nice cool-down, please
You got it. Lots of ice. Cheers!
And sure enough, we had a bit of a rainstorm here. Not a hurricane, but torrential enough! I’ll see if I can get some inspiration tonight or tomorrow, but meanwhile hope to read plenty of your poems.
I love that there are real storms so many places you guys are. Envying them, though. Clear washed-out 106 degree skies here. Whew.
Hi De. I am still out on hiatus but I wrote this poem a couple of weeks ago. Then I saw your prompt…storm.
Toni! SO good to see you! Heading over now. 🙂
Hi De. When I saw this prompt, I couldn’t resist. And oh yeah, don’t forget about Riders on the Storm by the Doors…..
Oh, YES! Loves me some Doors!
Now home again and will make my rounds… tomorrow is a holiday to it’s alright
A bit late to the bar. Am at my grandchildren’s piano and violin lessons. Taking care of them Til Wednesday evening as parents are gone. They’re older now (9 and 10) so befor and after school and shuttling to lessons, baseball and softball games and practices, homework brigade. They keep me on my toes and laughing every day! Will be reading tonight and in AM. Great prompt word, De!
What a blessing you are for them, Lil. My mom and dad are a huge part of my kids’ lives, and it is SO needed and appreciated!
For those who would like to try to brave the challenge of writing one using all the words we’ve offered so far for Quadrille, here they are:
dance, lull, bubble, grin, melt, shimmer, twist, skip, green, breeze, spill, rose, journey, jar, leaves, open, shadow, cloud, spark, cue, breath(e), scar, curl, whisper, dawn, ghost, giggle, spring, balloon, drizzle, still, echo, sound, storm
Just have to add 10 and do a whirl – an invention too far for me but I like the challenge. A list poem might work though here
Yes. 😉 Hyphens and creative line breaks are welcome (and mucho necessary!) I think, at this point, we may also need to accept some of the words being in the title.
Storming in quite late tonight so will have to leave reading til tomorrow – a passionate prompt indeed
So glad you’re here, Laura! 🙂
Loved the prompt, De ❤️ sharing my poem Untitled (memoirs of a burgeoning poet) hope you like it 🙂
Loved it Sanaa. 🙂 Glad you’re here.
Finally got a chance to sit down and post. So many possibilities with this prompt but one topic won the day…after brainstorming 😉
Glad you’re here, Janice! 🙂 Cheers!
Yay! Quadrille Monday! Thanks for the prompt.
My pleasure, crow. Heading over now.
Hi De, I got caught in a magnetic poem storm with this prompt…stayed up too late already so will read tomorrow. Hoping for rain here!
Hi, lynn! 🙂
I’ve added mine, and I’ll be back to read some more of the others in a bit. It’s raining here now, but no storm (yet). 🙂
I came up with another. 🙂
Heading over now, Merril! 🙂
Hellooo…back from the Highlands and now jet lagged in Kuala Lumpur…but submitted my quadrille and will follow up with all the words. I’m in and out poetry wise at the minute as my work schedule is now off the scale.
So glad you came by, Paul! Heading over your way now! 🙂
sorry, a bit late, just got back from holiday. Hello all 🙂
