You can’t always get what you want, but if you try, sometimes, you might find you get what you need.” ― The Rolling Stones
Hello Fellow Poets and Welcome to Open Link Night here at our favorite Pub!
It’s that time again to share ONE poem for our reading pleasure. There is no specific theme, however if you wish to, you can respond to a prompt you may have missed this last week.
On this day back in 1965, the Rolling Stones released their single “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” (their 1st #1 US hit) in the UK. I was ten at the time, and beginning to have an interest in music. Of course the Beatles were my fave, but there was something about the Stones with their bad boy image that drew me.
And in case you’ve been living in a cave for the last 50+ years, here’s a little background on them:
The Rolling Stones are an English rock band formed in London in 1962. The first stable line-up consisted of bandleader Brian Jones (guitar, harmonica, keyboards), Mick Jagger (lead vocals, harmonica), Keith Richards (guitar, vocals), Bill Wyman(bass guitar), Charlie Watts (drums), and Ian Stewart (piano), the latter of whom was removed from the official line-up in 1963, but continued to work with the band as a contracted musician until his death in 1985. The band’s primary songwriters, the partnership of Jagger and Richards, assumed leadership after Andrew Loog Oldham became the group’s manager.
The Rolling Stones were at the forefront of the British Invasion of bands that became popular in the United States in 1964, and were identified with the youthful and rebellious counterculture of the 1960s. Rooted in blues and early rock and roll, the band started out playing covers, but found more success with their own material; songs such as “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” and “Paint It Black” became international hits, and Aftermath (1966) – their first entirely original album – has been considered the most important of the band’s formative records.

It’s hard to believe that 58 years later, they are still rocking in their 70’s! I read Life, by Keith Richards and I am convinced the guy has a guardian angel.
Look at those baby faces! Okay, are you ready to share some poetry and read other offerings?
Just a reminder: OLN means you can post ONE poem of your choosing (no specified form, length, word prompt etc)
Also, we request you either TAG dVerse or include a line at the end of your post that includes a link back to dVerse.
Those of you new to dVerse, here’s how to participate:
- Post any poem of your choosing on your blog or website.
- Click on Mr. Linky below to add your name and enter the direct URL to your poem
- On your blog, please provide a link back to dVerse. This enables others to enjoy our prompts, increases our readership and thus increases the responses to everyone’s poems.
- If you promote your poem on social media, use the tag #dverse poets
- And most importantly, please do read some of the other responses to the prompt and add a short comment or reaction. Everyone likes to be appreciated! The prompt is “live” for several days – as you’ll notice by the comments you’ll receive – so do stop by another day and read a few of the latecomers too!

Hello Linda… I remember seeing Rolling Stones live (in 1982) … after their biggest hits had been written and before they had became really old. I think that Marianne Faithful was almost a member of Rolling Stones once… Take a look at this video

Wow- what a great memory for you Bjorn. Love the video- I have never seen this!

She was so young and sweet before she waned into drugs only to appear with her broken English.

Yes, she was.

This new WP editor will drive me insane I swear. Six attempts to get it to keep the formatting from preview to publishing. Stupid time-wasting gadget.
Linda Lee Lyberg said:
Ah, yes. I know what you mean!
Jane Dougherty said:
Sometimes it keeps the formatting, other times the formatting goes, and for no reason. WP is just winding us up.
Linda Lee Lyberg said:
Haha! Most likely!
Jane Dougherty said:
If I go quiet you’ll know it’s because I punched WP in the face and destroyed my computer.

LInda,
Thanks for hosting. I am enjoying reading everyone’s comments about the new WP editor. It makes me feel like I am not the only one who struggles with format changes.
Your quote is perfect for the times. I look forward to reading what other’s share.

Hi Linda. Thank you for hosting today! I wrote a piece to honor a wonderful woman who was my singing partner with me in my band years ago. Damn she could sing. We became lifelong friends, staying in touch — though we didn’t get to visit much, as Years went by. She lived in the Midwest with her husband, and my wife and I have lived here in the PacNW for 30 years now. Sadly, she died in May of Covid-19. She always brought her big ultra-friendly dog Bojangles to rehearsal. She was the 4th member of that band to pass, but the only to Covid. Her death put a little deeper crack in my heart. She will always be missed. This piece is remembering her.

Thanks for the background Rob. It was a loving tribute.

Such a great musical duo Jagger-Richards, who often credited themselves on their album liner notes as the Glimmer Twins, always a sense of humour. Great song choice LInda. Thank you for hosting and with great taste.
