Hi everyone! I am pleased to introduce you (again) to our guest pub tender, CC!
CC here hosting the Tuesday Poetics for D’Verse. I blog—usually, but not lately, over at https://consciouscacophony.wordpress.com/. In one week, I’m going to Peru to hike Machu Picchu so travel is at the forefront of my mind. I’ve been amazed by all the beautifully obscure travel words becoming mainstream these days. Here are a few of my favorites:
1. Resfeber (n.): the restless race of the traveler’s heart before the journey begins, when anxiety and anticipation are tangled together; a travel fever that can manifest as an illness.
2. Fernweh (n.): “distance-sickness”; the craving for travel
3. Coddiwomple (v.): to travel in a purposeful manner towards a vague destination.
4. Wanderlust (n): a strong, innate desire to rove or travel about.
For this prompt, think of a trip you’ve taken, or one you would love to take. Sit with these words and their definitions awhile. Let all these thoughts conjure up some restless or heartfelt emotions within you and then just write from the depth of that. Share your memories, or your hopes, of travel. Or pick one specific word/definition and let that be your prompt. However you choose to use this prompt, have fun with it!
If you are new here, this is how this works:
· Write a poem inspired by travel….past, present, future or the travel word definitions.
· Click on Mr. Linky below and enter your name and URL (web address to your poem)
· Visit others that have linked their poems. This is a community made richer by interaction and communication.
· Enjoy.
Thank you for your participation!

Hi everyone!! Thank you to CC for such a lovely prompt ~ I do envy you and hope you have a wonderful time in Peru ~
Happy Tuesdays!!
Thank you, Grace 🙂
Wow… I so hope you come back with lots of pictures and wonderful memories…. I had now idea that a Swedish word has made it into the English language (Resfeber)… a word I really love actually.. . My own travel is mostly those where I can walk or paddle… there something so important to move by your own force for me.
I like the different definitions so I learned something new today ~ Hubby and I are planning a trip next year to the US so I am excited for this too ~
Also wanted to let you know that CC will be around later to visit and comment on your poems ~
A true fever then… Hope you make it to the southwest… that’s my favorite part of the US…
Thanks for the tip Bjorn ~ Part of the itinerary is going to see the Grand Canyon as I read its a spectacular sight to behold ~
Definitely a beautiful part of the US, for sure. The national parks in Utah, like Zion and Bryce are really worth seeing too if you have the time. Amazing colors.
I love this word now, too, Bjorn. There is something so moving about it for me. I like to fly somewhere far, far away but then most of what I do once I get there involves walking, so I suppose I partly agree with you on that 😉
Hello, Grace, quiet here tonight, isn’t it?
I love me a travel theme – it’s one of my favourite things in the world. I have some deadlines this week so won’t be able to contribute, but will definitely keep it in mind for a later OLN.
Looking forward to it Marina ~
Glad you love the travel theme, Marina Sofia….me too 🙂
I have to think a bit about this one 🙂 I don’t travel often. I might share an old one that would fit the prompt.
Has anyone seen Glenn lately? I hope he’s just busy and not sick or anything
We miss Glenn all of us… no news in quite some time.
I hope he is just on vacation, and nothing bad has happened to him ~
Take your time to think of travel theme ~ It can be a bucket list of places that you want to travel 🙂
I checked on FB and saw only posts from mid-October. After losing several people in a few years of blogging, I went to the newspapers in his area looking for obits. Morbid but just checking. I hope he is just on vacation, taking time away from the puter or thoroughly enjoying his grandchildren. I sent a message via FB letting him know he was missed.
His last blog post was October 20. Maybe he’s just got a bad cold or enjoying the lovely autumn weather.
That’s what I am hoping as well. he’s in WA so his autumn may be a little different. I have my fingers crossed for him. I miss the crusty man!
Yes, like Grace said….it can be a bucket list or something imaginary or dreamlike…not necessarily something true.
cool
I wasn’t complaining I was just making conversation
I just have to share one of my favorite poems by Karin Boye that fit the prompt so well…

Will check out her poem Bjorn, thanks ~
Thanks, Bjorn…will definitely check it out!
Love it! Especially these lines:
In places where one sleeps but once,
sleep is secure, dreams full of songs.
Just read it, Bjorn, and have to agree with you that it fits the prompt so well….and besides that, the first two lines are absolutely glorious.
It’s one of the few poems in Swedish that ever made it into the heart of every Swede. It has even been used in commercials for cars (which was a little scary…)
Wow, mainstream poetry…commercialized!!
This was fun. Have traveled a lot in my life so know this feeling! Posted and now am reading!
Thanks Carol and happy to see you diving into our prompts so enthusiastically ~
Thank you!
So glad to hear you thought it was fun. I look forward to reading it once I’m off work!
Thank you!
I hope all of you are well. Supposed to be rainy but ended up being beautiful and sunny. I traveled extensively until I married – at the grand age of 49. I travelled for business and for pleasure and clocked in umpteen frequent flyer miles and drove a zillion miles. I don’t care for travel the way I used to. The hassle at airports, maniac people creating chaos in airports with rolling luggage and then ccramming into the above space, knowing the plane seats and air is not very clean, crowded beaches and other attractions. I am happiest at home or no more than two hours away. I go after New Year’s to the beach for a week alone to refresh, recyle, rest. Love it when it snows at the beach! I think having to go to Florida so often to look after my mom last year and then move her bag and baggage from Tampa to TN did me in. My poem reflects my love of home and content not to travel.
I haven’t been on the beach during winter or when it snows ~ I too don’t like the hassle of long travel but I promise myself to travel at least once a year to a new city or country as my working years are counting down ~ But hey, a staycation isn’t so bad either ~
No, it isn’t. The only thing about staycations is that it is hard to carve out that space where one can be alone – no demands, no intrustions except what one allows. If I did a staycation, I’d have to fix meals for my husband, deal with the lawn work, etc. A week away in a quiet place is just what the soul needs – or a place where one can just ramble, get nurtured, get a massage, be fed….readreadread!
I have lived on three continents and found myself most at home in airports…that feeling of being in-between places is where I find myself most comfortable because it is where I spent my formative years. I remember well your week alone to refresh, recycle and rest and think it is absolutely a brilliant idea!! Love it.
We all need to take time to carve out a space for ourselves. It is good for us.
Now I head of to bed… darkness is deep around us.
See you tomorrow Bjorn ~ I am heading out myself in a bit ~
Thank you CC for this interesting and different prompt! I think there will be some varied and fun entries for this.
You’re welcome 🙂 I look forward to reading the varied responses!
I have written an entire book of Traveler poems over the last few years, so this is a topic close to my heart. Good one, C.C…..I shall return with something a little later……..Yay!

Thank you, C.C. for an interesting topic and I love those travel words you introduced us too. I had to choose ‘coddiwomple’…what a great word! Enjoy your upcoming trip to Machu Picchu…I’ve only heard incredible experiences from people who have been.
Gayle ~
You’re welcome, Gayle…glad you enjoyed it. That word, ‘coddiwomple’ is a funny one, isn’t it? It just sounds awesome, for one thing! Thank you for the well wishes for my trip. I’m looking forward to it 🙂
Am in between travelling as am at a friends in the beautiful county of Dorset. Hardy country. Will try a poem if get time as also celebrating her 60 th. it’s been quite a journey.
Have enjoyed all the poems as I guess travel is close to my heart. Still having difficulty responding to some that aren’t WordPress but trying to work on it. Thank you all for your lovely poems and also look forward to hearing about Peru!
If you have a gmail or google account, I suggest that you try this for blogger. Another option which some of the WordPress folks have done is to create a blogger account and let people know this is just for commenting. Thanks for linking up and sharing your poem ~
