Hello poets, today it might be a little slow at the bar, many of our regulars are with families and friends enjoying each other’s company and plenty of food. I feel tonight it’s more like an all night diner in here, your lonely bartender is sitting here enjoying some moonshine by himself.
For those of you who enter this barren cave, we can have a chat, and sharing words. Maybe we can scribble poetry on napkins and share. Family weekends can be a bitch for the lonely, but I’m here to share it with you.
Since last OLN we have had three prompts, and maybe you want to share something on those. Just as a reminder these were:
Poetics – Who / What do you Miss? by Mary
Meeting the Bar; Florette by Gayke
Poetry as a vehicle to transport emotions by Claudia
Or just share my loneliness with some stark November melancholy
But this is Open Link so any one poem is welcome.

Hi there… I guess it will be empty here tonight… the smell of turkey tickles, but here we only serve peanuts tonight… some tepid beer, and on the stereo I play blues…
I will have some peanuts, smiles ~ Thanks for hosting Bjorn and see you out on the trail ~
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
Whatever you’re planning to eat
On Thanksgiving, I hope it’s a treat.
Whether stuffing and turkey
Or something more quirky,
Here’s hoping it doesn’t repeat.
Ha… yes for those that celebrate it’s nice… for us here at the bar we are lonelier than ever… I feel like I’m inside a Hopper painting.
Oh you Night Hawk Bjorn. That’s my favourite painting. I’m sure you won’t be alone tonight.
It is a great painting.. and I there are definitely a lot of lonely people a day like this.. I hear “Elinor Rigby “playing now…
Happy Thanks giving Madeleine ~
Hey everyone,
Happy Thanksgiving 😀 hope you all are having a great time 🙂 sharing my poem “Survival” hope you guys like it 🙂
Lots of love,
Sanaa
Ah.. welcome Sanaa I hope you have a wonderful evening… 🙂
Thanks Bjorn 🙂 I m doing quite well.. wish you a wonderful evening too 🙂
I’ll toast for lonely Scandinavian nights! Cheers from Oslo!
Cheers back from Stockholm… 🙂
Happy Thanksgiving to all you American poets.
My muse is sulking at the moment, but I managed a little one today.
Great to have you here Viv… sometimes the muse is elusive.. I find that art helps me find inspiration… or dictionaries.
Oh those muses are fickle friends! Mine is not being very kind right now either!
I give you my sympathy.
I was hoping to have Part 2 of my Song of Fire sonnet cycle ready…alas, I have been arm-wrestling my muse, but she refuses to share inspiration yet…maybe for next OLN. I shall try to stop by later today or tomorrow with something…and Happy Thanksgiving to all of you who live in the USA!
Ah.. nice to have you passing through Bryan… The muse can be evasive.. sonnet cycles can be really challenging .. sorry for ever inspiring you to do that… Maybe I should interest you in doing a sestina next time 🙂
No thanks on the Sestina…but I am actually loving the intense challenge of the sonnet cycle…so no apologies necessary! 🙂
Oh fickle muse, why did you wait
your inspiration comes too late
for finally you give insight
but I already linked last night!
—
yep…I just had a flash of inspiration and wrote part 2 of “Song of Fire”. I shall post it in a fortnight for the next OLN (unless an earlier prompt “fits the bill”
🙂 hmm lets hope for that… Btw I loved your haibun.
Hi Everyone, happy Thanksgiving to all those who are celebrating. The link that I am adding here is something that I wrote after the Paris Attacks, I wanted to put it up in the previous prompts but I was so busy that I read the post after the deadline. I hope you’ll read it with an open mind.
Thanks for sharing it ~
Thank you so much for sharing this poem…!
thank you for reading it.
Thank you. And OLN is always a perfect time to share anything with us.
xx
Have to be quick off the mark to be a dVerse poet- was fascinated with the Florette form and wanted to give it a go sometime (hope it is repeated). Just when the Muse overflowed for Claudia’s emotions, the computer froze so missed the deadline but managed to post it. Not a complaint – after all its Thanksgiving – somewhere. So thank-you d’team for the inspirations
Hi! You don’t have to wait for another Florette prompt. Please feel free to put any of your wonderful poetry in that form for whatever prompt or, to link for an open link night for any subject. I’m still mulling over the form.
thank you for the encouragement – will consider it for my next one
You can also write a Florette for any of the poetics subject that is not on form. That is the general idea of our prompts.. Poetics give inspiration on subjects, and MTB challenge on writing and on form.. If you are interested go back in history and you will find great challenges on form and writing tips.. this is what I did for a long time…
You can link it up here during OLN ~
Hello All!!! Happy Thanksgiving to all my American cohorts and to those of you in other parts of the world, Happy Thanksgiving as well. I for one am grateful for so much and especially, grateful for a supportive and creative poetic community. Bjorn, thank you for linking me. Thank you also for holding down the lonely fort here. I brought a huge container of home made yeast rolls filled with thin slices of home cured ham. One of Brad’s relatives still salt and sugar cures his hams in the very old fashioned way in his smokehouse. It is rich and salty and perfect in the roll with some good cold beer or….glass of champagne!!!! Everyone, eat up – drinks are on me.
Now I am really hungry ~ Enjoy your time with your family and loved ones ~ Happy Thanksgiving Toni ~ We are really lucky to have you as our pub tender, smiles ~
Thank you Grace. You all are always so good to me. We got home a few hours ago – two – 3 hour drive through the countryside on a sunny day. That was great. Good food and I had a ball with one of the 13 year old cousins talking about Star Wars – he was amazed I was in the theater for this first one – live- and that a friend and I have a competition as to how many times we have seen the first one. Our total now stands at 239 – 235 times. Fun kid. 64 years old and 13 meet and match perfectly. His mom said she had never seen him talk so much! My husband finally joined us and then the three of had another good session on who we think the next James Bond should be and all the different cars through the years. I’ll never grow up!!! And sometimes, that is what family is all about. And I am thankful.
You are lucky to have your family with you ~ I am not that Big a fan of Star Wars, but Daniel Craig is my favorite James Bond ~ Everyone pales in comparison to Daniel, smiles ~
I am growing very fond of this community of poets! Have a wonderful evening/day where ever you are!
Thanks for dropping by and have a wonderful week yourself ~
Cool! It’s good you join us. Have a great week ahead.
Thank you. You too!
We love to have you here Carol
🙂
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I’m posting one I did last year for the prompt by Mary, in Poetics…Who – what do you miss… Thank you for including me in this wonderful group of poets! You are all awesome! 🙂
Happy thanksgiving back to you ~ I will be over to visit and read ~ Thanks for joining us ~
Thank you. I’ll be back later tonight when it is quiet and read and comment. Saving dessert for when I can enjoy it – a wonderful poetry sundae!!!
Happy Thanksgiving (belatedly) to all those celebrating – I hope you have a lovely long weekend of food, fun, family, friends…
I was working all day yesterday and got back late and very tired, so have not had time to visit yet. Look forward to reading all of your poems though!
I personally give thanks to the fact that I have two gorgeous (if sometimes infuriating) boys, who are healthy and vocal and have a mind of their own.
There is so much to give thanks for but here in the UK we seem to have picked up Halloween and trick or treat so far. Harvest Festival, Guy Fawkes, Shooping days to Christmas. Hope those who could had a wonderful time and that the lonely are not so lonely if there are a few virtual links.mso thanks to Bjorn in the bar and Dverse.
Here we do have some celebration on Sunday with the first of Advent… and then on 13th of December we celebrate Lucia… really the lights of December is so preferable to the darkness of November…
Agree, I like Advent but most seem to prepare for Christmas by having to shop. I once went to some advent meditations with an icon as a focus. It was peaceful and powerful. Some inner light needed too?
In Sweden we have a small ceremony of four candles in a single setting.. by lighting one candle for each Sunday we have at least a moment of contemplation…. 🙂
Sounds good. Candles give light!
Hi all – sorry I missed yesterday. As is the theme of a lot of my writing, the job really ate my life this year with a major transition to starting my own consultancy. That’s going okay and the holidays are a bit slower, so trying to get back on the horse!
No problem, we are still open, just link a poem and visit some others 🙂 we are a nice bunch…
We have Black Friday on dVerse.. Poetry to read completely free.
🙂
We are so busy since returning home that I am posting something I wrote a couple of months back. It is a busy time of year at the farm, preparing for summer bushfire season and also lots of little-boy-sitting which makes time for poetry, for the moment anyway, minimal.
Ah.. hope you have time later… 🙂
