Hi everyone! Welcome to our OpenLinkNight ! This is your opportunity to link 1 poem of your choice as this is no prompt-day. For those who missed the Mr Linky deadline the past week, this is also your opportunity to share your poem to our prompts last week – Poetics – Moon-Muse or The Reason for Rhyme. Before I share a poem with you, I want to bring up two things:
1. Our planned D’verse Anthology is an ongoing project. If you want to submit your own original poem for consideration, OpenLinkNight is your opportunity to do so. Another way is of course to write and join our weekly prompts. We review all poems and select those that will be included for the anthology.
2. On the issue of plagiarism – our community supports and acknowledges all the original works of the writers and poets. We don’t tolerate nor support a poet who takes the work of another, and passes it off as his own work. This is a serious ethical offense and we encourage all our poets and writers to respect the intellectual property of others by either asking permission, or quoting and giving credit to the original source of work.
Here’s a poem for you:
Lyric night of the lingering Indian Summer,
Shadowy fields that are scentless but full of singing,
Never a bird, but the passionless chant of insects,
Ceaseless, insistent.
The grasshopper’s horn, and far-off, high in the maples,
The wheel of a locust leisurely grinding the silence
Under a moon waning and worn, broken,
Tired with summer.
Let me remember you, voices of little insects,
Weeds in the moonlight, fields that are tangled with asters,
Let me remember, soon will the winter be on us,
Snow-hushed and heavy.
Over my soul murmur your mute benediction,
While I gaze, O fields that rest after harvest,
As those who part look long in the eyes they lean to,
Lest they forget them.
To join us for Thursday’s OpenLinkNight, which happens every other week, here’s how to join:
See you at the poetry trail. ~Grace~

Welcome to OLN everyone!!!! Hope you are still enjoying the last few days of summer.
I will be making my rounds in a bit! In the meantime, relax and read some poems!!!

Thank you Grace for the welcome and round making. I’m happy to be done with summer. 🙂
Grace said:
I dread the end of summer as our autumn is quick and winters in Canada are long. Looking forward to reading your share.

I can understand that, I had much the same climate when I live up north, but now I’m in southwest and the summers are too hot and too long!

Thank you Grace for hosting and thank you for your comments about plagiarism. I have on my web blog, a very clear warning that all words that are mine are just that – mine and that they are copyrighted. A couple of years ago I had one of my poems appear on a website and I had not given any permission for it to be used plus …. they changed the wording a bit and used it as their own. I went after them and the result was the poem was removed from their webpage and they closed that blog and opened another. Plagiarism is just plain stealing. That is it it – stealing. We all use poems as inspiration which is one thing but to pull out sentences from a work and take it is our own is just plain low down and stealing and is intellectual pirating of another another’s work. I take a very dim view of plagiarism. using a quote and giving credit is fine, using a line and giving credit is fine. Using a line or quote and not giving credit and/or taking it as one’s own is lowdown, dirty and horrible. it is intellectual terrorism.
Grace said:
Thank you for your thoughtful comments Toni. Yes, that is stealing, and we don’t condone it at all.
kanzensakura said:
No, we don’t.

What are your terms for the inclusion of poem in your anthology
Grace said:
That it should be your own original work. All rights belong to you and we only ask permission to include it in our anthology.

Thanks for hosting. I’m submitting a moon muse poem, that was penned after the Mr Linky deadline expired. Looking forward to reading. Best wishes and happy writing everyone, MW
Grace said:
You are always welcome to include any 1 poem of your choice for OLN.

PS Can anyone host a prompt? If so, how is it done?
Grace said:
Our team normally provides the prompt but we do request guests bloggers to host a prompt once in a while. It is usually by invitation and we need guest bloggers who are supportive and will visit all the links for the prompt.
mother wintermoon said:
Okay, got it. Can non-hosts make prompt suggestions?
Grace said:
Of course, we would welcome it. Can you please email me your suggestions at sometimesg@yahoo.com ?
mother wintermoon said:
I will. Cheers.

Thank you Grace for the explanation. If at any time you or anyone else reads something of mine you would consider for an anthology, then I would be very flattered. This poem for Open Link night is #7 in a series of tribute poems I wrote about/for Rumi. Thanks again.

I love Teasdale so many thanks for sharing this one which I had not know of. Have combined some prose with a quadrille – a new offering rather than an archive.
p.s. Apologies but computer glitches have made visiting fellow poets somewhat intermittent and am now away til Saturday (as the weather is very fine) when I will catch up with other poems. Thank you for your inspiration and encouragement.

Thanks for your support Laura !

I like Teasdale, too. A lovely poem she wrote here. As some of you know, I am in a fight with JP at Olive Garden (Jingle)for taking 3 works of mine without permission, posting them on HER blog and rewriting “Storm Drain Baby” and putting my name to this abomination. I was shocked, floored. She (Jingle) has at least 3 other websites and I really doubt she is based in Italy. Nothing so foul could come from Italy, except the rise of Mussolini. I have an attorney (expensive) who is giving advice but this Jingle has stalked and harassed others before me. I am just one in a long line.
I learned early to copyright all of my work, and the things she stole were already in a few of my published books. She flaunts the Copyright Infringement laws of our nation.
I thought for a few moments of shutting down my blog, but then again….she is just a gnat in the pudding. I am grateful for those here who have expressed (privately, too) their outrage at this Jingle site. I don’t know that we can stop her, but someone should. She is an Intellectual Terrorist and does the field of poetry no good. My poems are still being pirated on her site. Hence, the warning which just fouls my blog.
This won’t resolve anytime soon, she’s an expert at this behavior. I guess we just write around her and go on with our poetry. As I said, a gnat in the pudding. LOL!
Grace said:
Just ignore them Jane and let them fade away in time. Good for you to copyright all of your work. I am smiling at your gnat in the pudding, smiles.
ladynyo said:
I’ve been stolen before but not on this scale. Makes me wary of posting, period…my blog has been going for 8 years and I love it. Ignoring them, Grace doesn’t seem to do anything. But ….may she (Jingle) get shingles! LOL!

Sorry I’m late to the bar – or early by our time! I’m having trouble with my left eye and it turned into a pulsing headache so I had to get away from the screen. It’s a bit better this morning, although I have an appointment later on this morning. Once I’ve posted, I’ll peruse all the wonderful writing! Have a great Friday and a superb weekend, dVerse poets!
Grace said:
Hope you will feel better Kim! Enjoy your Friday and weekend as well !

Thanks Grace – same to you 🙂

Not late at all.. we have 48 hours… you just missed the rush hour.
Victoria C. Slotto said:
Joining in late, but glad to be here. Re: plagiarism — I often use a phrase from another poet to inspire my own writing and use it as a title, but always give credit for it. My understanding is that it is acceptable to quote a phrase in this manner. If anyone is aware of this being a problem, I would be grateful for feedback and will change or take down previous posts. This poem is an example of that.
Björn Rudberg (brudberg) said:
I think it is, and sometimes even giving credit if it’s just inspired by is good. The comment on your entry is closed… I really like how you weaved the memory of past with the fall coming… Maybe I can see an element of shimmer from the past.
Victoria C. Slotto said:
I guess it’s closed because I first drafted it before I reopened comments. Oh well.
