Hi everyone! Welcome to our OpenLinkNight ! This is your opportunity to link 1 poem of your choice as this is no prompt-day. For those who missed the Mr Linky deadline the past week, this is also your opportunity to share your poem to our prompts last week – Poetics – Moon-Muse or The Reason for Rhyme. Before I share a poem with you, I want to bring up two things:

1. Our planned D’verse Anthology is an ongoing project. If you want to submit your own original poem for consideration, OpenLinkNight is your opportunity to do so. Another way is of course to write and join our weekly prompts. We review all poems and select those that will be included for the anthology.

2. On the issue of plagiarism – our community supports and acknowledges all the original works of the writers and poets. We don’t tolerate nor support a poet who takes the work of another, and passes it off as his own work. This is a serious ethical offense and we encourage all our poets and writers to respect the intellectual property of others by either asking permission, or quoting and giving credit to the original source of work.

Here’s a poem for you:

Lyric night of the lingering Indian Summer,
Shadowy fields that are scentless but full of singing,
Never a bird, but the passionless chant of insects,
Ceaseless, insistent.

The grasshopper’s horn, and far-off, high in the maples,
The wheel of a locust leisurely grinding the silence
Under a moon waning and worn, broken,
Tired with summer.

Let me remember you, voices of little insects,
Weeds in the moonlight, fields that are tangled with asters,
Let me remember, soon will the winter be on us,
Snow-hushed and heavy.

Over my soul murmur your mute benediction,
While I gaze, O fields that rest after harvest,
As those who part look long in the eyes they lean to,
Lest they forget them.

To join us for Thursday’s OpenLinkNight, which happens every other week, here’s how to join:

See you at the poetry trail. ~Grace~
