Hello everyone! Welcome to Open Link Night. Mish here as your host.

Is it really October?  Why is it that months and even years fly by the ***er we get? I will not say that word! Time and seasons do not pause for us and here we are, rolling like pumpkins into fall. No stopping us now, I’m afraid.

Autumn brings change but of course depending on your location, these range from slight to more significant. In my locale here in Southern Ontario, Canada, fall brings with it gorgeous colours, reflections of summer and a sense of nesting as we brace for those blustery days of winter. Our seasons are quite distinct and we tend to celebrate each one as a transition in our lives.  In the fall, many of us will buy mums to decorate our gardens, rake leaves, pick apples, bake pies and buy supplies for Thanksgiving dinners, which take place here in Canada on the second Monday of October. This is a time of gratitude for all of our blessings including a wonderful harvest of vegetables and fruits.

The following poem by Carl Sandburg is a reminder of the brevity of fall.

Autumn Movement

I cried over beautiful things knowing no beautiful thing lasts.

The field of cornflower yellow is a scarf at the neck of the copper
sunburned woman, the mother of the year, the taker of seeds.

The northwest wind comes and the yellow is torn full of holes,
new beautiful things come in the first spit of snow on the northwest wind,
and the old things go, not one lasts.

-Carl Sandburg-
