Welcome everyone to Open Link Night at dVerse! This is Gayle from Bodhirose’s Blog and I’ll be your host for the next few days as we read and comment on each other’s works.
This has been a week of colds for several of our family members including both of the granddaughters…and me! Since Mira started preschool in September she’s just about had a perpetual cold. I guess that’s the way it goes when they’re around all those other little kids with new germs to share amongst themselves.
Even when I worked at a private school for several years, I managed to somehow avoid getting sick much and I’ve fared pretty well during my time taking care of Mira. But now I’ve had a couple of mild colds in the last couple of months and it has me wondering about my immune system and how I can give it a boost . Maybe some extra vitamin C, some zinc, some herbal concoctions in capsules or teas. Yes, it’s that time of year again and I’m going to do my best to stay healthy. And I wish the same for all of you!
I’ve heard that hot toddies are good for colds so if anyone else is under the weather, I’ll do my best to mix some up and have them available at the bar. I think hot apple cider would be soothing too. I’m ready to take your orders!
So, as most of you know, Open Link Night is where you are free to choose ONE poem to link. There is no prompt and no instructions for a form to follow. Write whatever inspires you (or dust off and share an old poem)
Follow these instructions for linking your poem to Mr. Linky:
- Write your poem on your blog and copy the URL into the space provided on Mr. Linky and add your name.
- Link your poem back to dVerse Poets Pub so your visitors will have a quick way to access dVerse and our presentation.
- Read and comment on other’s writings, especially to those who comment on your work.
- Enjoy!
Good afternoon, friends, and welcome.
Good evening, Gayle! Thank you for being a congenial host and offering a hot toddy – your recipe looks delicious and warming. I think I need one after the long day I’ve had! I hope you’re in good shape and still cold-free! I’m off to read the early birds’ poems!
Hi Kim, I’m feeling good again and back to my grandma nanny duties. Now my other daughter has it after spending time with her two tiny nieces. 😦 I’ll see you around.
I found out today that my daughter is expecting a boy! I was sure it would be a girl – either way, I can’t wait!
Oh what wonderful news, Kim…congratulations! Yes, either way, it’s super exciting!
Evening here Gayle. Thanks for hosting. Hot Toddy for me without the hot water, honey or spices please 😉
Would you like that with ice?
Never 😉
Good evening, Paul. One brandy coming up! 🙂
oops…didn’t read the whole recipe….here in Scotland, a Hot Toddy must have Whisky, so I’ll take one of those please 😉
Okay, scratch the brandy…whisky it is! 🙂
Thanks for hosting, Gayle. My poem for OLN came to me one night. I would wake & scribble a few lines; kept writing at it even in my dreams; it really wanted to see the words on a page. First time that’s happened quite like that. BLACKTHORN will return for the next OLN. Heading out of town right now to celebrate my wife’s birthday, so apologies in advance for not being able to comment out on the trail. See everyone next Monday.
Ah have a wonderful night out… great to have the story.
Enjoy your celebration, Glenn. How cool to have a poem come to you in the night like that. Yes, it truly wanted to be written. We’ll see you when we can…no worries.
Have fun! Enjoy the time away.
Hello everyone and thank you for hosting tonight Gayle! A hot toddy sounds perfect for this chilly night and I hope your cold will soon be a thing of the past :o) xxx
Hi Xenia…cold is gone and I’m feeling good again, thanks. xo 🙂
a perfect night for a hot toddy… love it.. Today I kept my poem very short.
Unusual for you to have such a short poem, Bjorn, but it packs a wallop with its subject matter…which sickens me. I thought for sure this behavior was a thing of the past…I don’t know why I did. I guess as long as there are women and men this nasty behavior will continue…so pathetic.
Hi Gayle! That hot toddy sounds a lot like the ones my folks would make for me when I was a kid and feeling puckish! Thank you for hosting today! It’s good to see you in the pub. We finally have some cool weather but the days are still in the high 70’s F during the day. I’m posting a poem about a close call I had with a former lover, a couple of year after the “Samurai” and I went our separate ways.
Hi Toni! I’ve never had a hot toddy but they always sounded good to me…sick or not. 🙂 I’m happy to be hosting and happy to see you here. Our temperatures are mellowing for sure but are still in the eighties…which is better than the nineties! I always love your stories. xo
Thank you! It will start getting cooler in a couple of weeks….I can’t hardly wait.
We should be getting some of that cooler weather about that time too, Toni…such a welcome relief after we wait for so long.
You guys have had it tough down there. I hope it is over back getting back to normal.
Yes, it seems like its been an especially hot summer. The evenings are cooling down which feels so nice now.
I’ll bet! It has been an unusually warm and dry summer here. I can hardly wait for the cool/cold weather to come.
It’ll be there before you know it. 🙂
Hi Gayle! Thanks for hosting. That hot toddy looks like just what the doctor ordered☺
Hi Vivian…you’re welcome! Coming up…one hot toddy! 🙂
Yum!
Oh that hot toddy sounds great! Thank you, Gayle for hosting and presenting the medicinal ingredients. I think I need it right now. been chasing chickens around the yard today.
Hi Jane…always nice to see you here and you’re welcome. It’s my pleasure to be your host. Why are you chasing your chickens around may I ask? 🙂
I have 6 older chickens, a young rooster and 5 almost ready to lay hens. Some of them have disappeared and we have a coyote roaming the streets. With 11 cats, 4 dogs, these chickens….the only ones that don’t give me trouble are the goldfish in the small pond. LOL!
Oh, I understand now. I’m surprised that a coyote is roaming about your streets though…
Thanks for hosting, Gayle! We make a drink with warm water, apple cider vinegar and honey when sick. The cloves and cinnamon look like they would fit in that as well. I didn’t know they helped with cough and fever.
Hi Frank, I didn’t know how those ingredients helped either but It’s good to know. My son-in-law made me one of those hot water, apple cider vinegar and honey shots when I was first coming down with my cold. Not bad. Nice to see you today!
And I would like a nice fresh squeezed limeade over ice please! It is still too cool here to be drinking hot things. I know. I’m weird.
Okay, coming up, Toni…what?!
Yeppers. You heard me – lots of crushed ice!!!! 🙂 I’ll drink icy drinks when I come in from the cold!
Well tell me then…just when would a hot drink be acceptable?
So for a bit of fun I have recorded my poem ‘Sting’ in character. I’m not quite sure who he is or where he is from, but it seems to fit the language.
Can’t wait to hear that, Paul…fun!
So cool to hear you read your poem in character, Paul…I love it!
Hey all. Mm, hot toddy for me too please. Don’t be shy with the bramdy. So my poem is about a current events/pop culture/social media thing, which I normally try to avoid, for there is rarely any good in that nonsense. But this is something remarkable, which will probably go unnoticed and uncredited… Similar to bjorn’s though I don’t know that person…
Hey, Eric, hot toddy coming up and I look forward to reading your poem later on. Good to see you!
Hi Gayle and everyone – looking forward to the fine poetical offerings at the bar today. Mine is old poem which I’ve dusted off and reposted. Hope the cold improves Gayle.
Hi Peter, the cold is gone although it’s lingering with other family members…no fun. I look forward to reading your dusted off and reposted poem.
Hi Gayle, thanks for hosting. I’ll have a haibun up soon!
Hello Frank, you’re welcome and I look forward to your haibun…thanks for joining in today.
Hi, y’all! I’ve come in for a quick one. Working tonight, but I’ll be back to read from time-to-time. No toddy for me until quitting time!
Hi Charley. You just let me know when you’re ready for your hot toddy and I’ll whip it up fresh for you! 🙂
Thank you kindly!
Good morning from GMT+8. You’re not alone Gayle; I’m down with a runny nose as well — first one in three years. Stay warm and healthy, everyone. 🙂
Oh heck, so sorry to hear this Colin. I had gone years without a cold and then bam…two within a couple of months. I hope that yours is a mild one and passes quickly. 🙂
Thanks, Gayle. Chinese say, “a mild ailment is a blessing”. It brings friendly attention and gives one (or forces one to take) plenty of rest. Mine has passed but is somewhat lingering like a seasonal allergy, with a dry throat and some stuffy breath. How are you?
Mine started with a sore throat and then became a cough…minimal running nose but like you I’ve been left with a dry throat (usually at night). Maybe part of my issue is allergy related…change of seasons. But really I’m fine. I did take some good naps…naps are very healing! I like that Chinese saying, Colin. Feel better soon.
I was bedbound the whole day. Fatigue and stomachache. Eased off at last tonight. Thanks to your kind wishes!
Glad to hear that things have eased up for you, Colin. You’re welcome…and take it easy.
Thanks. Gotta sleep now and catch up with a few readings later.
Signing off for the night…it’s 10:30pm here. I have a long day with the children tomorrow so it will be after dinner when I will return for more reading and commenting. I hope you all enjoy your time here.
Gayle ~
Thank you for hosting, Gayle. I’ve put mine up, but it’s Friday morning now, so I’ll stick with coffee. 🙂 Enjoy your day! I’ll be back later to read more from everyone.
You’re welcome, Merril, happy to see you here.
Making a note of the recipe! Although it’s full-blown summer where I’m at (SA) the weather is so bizarre I won’t be surprised if I come down with something. Better be prepared I should think.
I guess better be safe than sorry, Petru…stay well!
Gayle, hope you are faring better. Hot toddies–they do help the symptoms or at least help you forget them. Stirred up plenty of them in my life nursing the elderly. It’s been a while since I’ve posted but I’ve been milling over the Autumn prompt from Tuesday. I hope to read as many as I can. There’s been a poetry drought in this household.
I’ve never had a hot toddy, Victoria, but they do seem that they would help the symptoms. There’s been a drought of poetry in this household too! I’m always so happy to hear from you…I wish you well my friend. xo
Thank you, special lady!
I appreciate that…thank you. xo
Hello all, finally back to do my rounds… Friday was intense….
The entire weekend got crazy busy for me but I finally completed all my reading and commenting late tonight…whew!
